#ShabbatShalom - Welcome to Tetzaveh (You Shall Command), this week’s Parasha (Torah Portion). Please read with us these portions of God’s word that will be heard in synagogues around the world during this week’s Shabbat (Saturday) service. We know you will be blessed!
In last week’s Torah reading, God instructed Moses and the Israelites to construct a Tabernacle (Mishkan) in the wilderness. This week, God commands them to bring pure olive oil for the lamp, and to create holy garments for the priests (cohanim). In this Parasha, sacred garments are to be made for the priests so they can serve God. One of them is the breastplate of judgment (Choshen Hamishpat). The breastplate is associated with the Urim and Thummim, and they are used for divining the will of the Lord. The priestly breastplate was made of embroidered linen sized and shaped into a square cubit. It contained four rows, each with three precious gems embedded within the plate and surrounded with gold.
Because this is the Shabbat that falls before Purim (Feast of Lots), which begins Monday night, it has a special name: Shabbat Zachor (Sabbath of Remembrance). Special portions of Scripture are included to remember the attack of Amalek on the Israelites when they came out of Egypt. While it may seem odd to remember an attack that happened so long ago, God commanded the Jewish People to wipe them out and never forget them.

And some would even welcome our disappearance as a people. A recent poll showed that most American Jewish voters “prioritized domestic policy issues over Israel when asked which issues are most important to them in selecting a candidate.”

Moses ascended Mount Sinai in order to receive the Ten Commandments. During the forty days he spent atop the mountain, the Jewish people became fearful and distrusting and began worshiping a golden calf. Today’s Diaspora Jews are worshiping a different type of false idol. For eight years, it took the form of Barack Obama, but he was only representative of a progressive ideal for which Jews are constantly searching. Our history of slavery, torture, dhimmitude, persecution, and genocide has led to a people who desperately seek peace, obsess over “tikkun olam” and social justice, and worship at the Torah of Liberalism.

Trump’s Deal of the Century embodied in Peace to Prosperity recently tabled is not a two state solution because what is being offered to the Palestinians falls far short of being a state. Though it enlarges their territory beyond Areas A and B (as defined by the Oslo Accords) to amount to a total area equivalent to the whole West Bank, it diminishes their autonomy. For instance, their government will be required to “adopt[ing] basic laws protecting human rights, protecting against financial and political corruption; stopping the malign activities of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other enemies of peace; ending the incitement of hatred against Israel; and permanently halting the financial compensation to terrorists.” For purposes of this article, I will refer to what they are being offered as a “statelet”.

#ShabbatShalom - Welcome to Tetzaveh (You Shall Command), this week’s Parasha (Torah Portion). Please read with us these portions of God’s word that will be heard in synagogues around the world during this week’s Shabbat (Saturday) service. We know you will be blessed!
In last week’s Torah reading, God instructed Moses and the Israelites to construct a Tabernacle (Mishkan) in the wilderness. This week, God commands them to bring pure olive oil for the lamp, and to create holy garments for the priests (cohanim). In this Parasha, sacred garments are to be made for the priests so they can serve God. One of them is the breastplate of judgment (Choshen Hamishpat). The breastplate is associated with the Urim and Thummim, and they are used for divining the will of the Lord. The priestly breastplate was made of embroidered linen sized and shaped into a square cubit. It contained four rows, each with three precious gems embedded within the plate and surrounded with gold.
Because this is the Shabbat that falls before Purim (Feast of Lots), which begins Monday night, it has a special name: Shabbat Zachor (Sabbath of Remembrance). Special portions of Scripture are included to remember the attack of Amalek on the Israelites when they came out of Egypt. While it may seem odd to remember an attack that happened so long ago, God commanded the Jewish People to wipe them out and never forget them.

And some would even welcome our disappearance as a people. A recent poll showed that most American Jewish voters “prioritized domestic policy issues over Israel when asked which issues are most important to them in selecting a candidate.”

Moses ascended Mount Sinai in order to receive the Ten Commandments. During the forty days he spent atop the mountain, the Jewish people became fearful and distrusting and began worshiping a golden calf. Today’s Diaspora Jews are worshiping a different type of false idol. For eight years, it took the form of Barack Obama, but he was only representative of a progressive ideal for which Jews are constantly searching. Our history of slavery, torture, dhimmitude, persecution, and genocide has led to a people who desperately seek peace, obsess over “tikkun olam” and social justice, and worship at the Torah of Liberalism.

Trump’s Deal of the Century embodied in Peace to Prosperity recently tabled is not a two state solution because what is being offered to the Palestinians falls far short of being a state. Though it enlarges their territory beyond Areas A and B (as defined by the Oslo Accords) to amount to a total area equivalent to the whole West Bank, it diminishes their autonomy. For instance, their government will be required to “adopt[ing] basic laws protecting human rights, protecting against financial and political corruption; stopping the malign activities of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other enemies of peace; ending the incitement of hatred against Israel; and permanently halting the financial compensation to terrorists.” For purposes of this article, I will refer to what they are being offered as a “statelet”.

Welcome to Tetzaveh (You Shall Command),
this week’s Parasha (Torah Portion).

Please read with us these portions of God’s word that will be heard in synagogues around the world during this week’s Shabbat (Saturday) service. We know you will be blessed!
Because this is the Shabbat that falls before Purim (Feast of Lots), which begins Monday night, it has a special name: Shabbat Zachor (Sabbath of Remembrance).
Special portions of Scripture are included to remember the attack of Amalek on the Israelites when they came out of Egypt.
While it may seem odd to remember an attack that happened so long ago, God commanded the Jewish People to wipe them out and never forget them.
“When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and attacked all who were lagging behind; they had no fear of God … you shall blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!” (Deuteronomy 25:18–19)
