FLORIDA - JOE HARDING WEEKLY UPDATE 02/28/2020

WEEKLY UPDATE

As a conservative, you won’t be surprised that I’m not on board with most views of the Democratic candidates for president. One of the most offensive has got to be Mike Bloomberg’s comments about agriculture that have recently surfaced. The former mayor of New York City thinking that farming is a piece of cake he could easily teach anybody is laughable at best and dangerous at worst.

Agriculture is one of the main drivers of Florida’s economy, employing millions of people and providing the necessities of life for Americans and folks around the world. The complicated and hard work farmers do feeds, clothes, transports, and houses us. Florida growers produce cotton, peanuts, oranges, blueberries, mangoes, cattle, timber, and pigs—and that’s just to name a few.

Farmers deserve nothing but respect and support, not the denigration Michael Bloomberg offered.
Amanda and I enjoyed taking our family to the Future Farmers of America steer show a few days ago. What a thrill to see so many young people learning the values of hard work and dedication that farming requires.
This week is FFA week, but we celebrate farmers every week and we consider it a huge responsibility and joy to raise our own future farmers.
I’m sure you’re familiar with Paul Harvey’s “So God Made a Farmer.” If you haven’t seen the Super Bowl ad from a few years ago recently, it’s worth a couple minutes to be reminded of the beautiful work farmers do and how much we owe them.
I’d consider it a great honor to champion the work of Florida farmers in the state legislature. Thanks for all you do to support our campaign to make that possible.

Have a great weekend!
Joe
