On Friday, I applauded the Trump administration’s announcement that it will impose significant sanctions, pursuant to Executive Order 12957, against eight senior Iranian officials as well as key sectors of Iran’s economy, including steel and iron manufacturers. Read more here.
On Tuesday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), Representative Jenniffer González-Colón (R-PR), and I sent a letter to President Donald Trump in support of Puerto Rico Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced’s request for a disaster declaration stemming from recent earthquakes. On Wednesday, I joined my colleagues on the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations for a meeting with Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. During our meeting, I highlighted the importance of U.S.- Greece bilateral relations, as well as the passage of my bipartisan Eastern Mediterranean Security & Energy Partnership Act of 2019 . On Wednesday, I wrote to the Federal Trade Commission ahead of a January 9, 2020 workshop titled, “Non-Competes in the Workplace: Examining Antitrust and Consumer Protection Issues.” In my letter, I urged the commissioners to “bear in mind the harm that non-compete agreements cause to lower-wage working Americans.” Read more here.
On Thursday, Senators Ed Markey (D-MA), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Chris Coons (D-DE), and I applauded passage of our bipartisan resolution condemning the ongoing human rights abuses in the Philippines. The resolution raises the cases of Philippine legislator, Leila De Lima, and journalist Maria Ressa, who have both been detained on bogus charges. Read more here.

- I joined Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) in introducing a resolution honoring the members of the military and intelligence community who carried out the successful mission that killed Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force and a designated terrorist. The resolution is modeled on a similar effort that was unanimously supported by the U.S. Senate in 2011, after American forces killed Al Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden. Read more here.
- I joined Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) in introducing the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2020, a bipartisan bill that strengthens the U.S.-Israel strategic alliance by authorizing $3.3 billion in annual security assistance consistent with the U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding and supports Israel’s ability to address both conventional and emerging threats.
