PUBLIC CITIZEN 12/20/2019 NOW WHAT?

So here’s something:
  • 126 members of Congress voted to impeach President Andrew Johnson in 1868.
  • 221 members of Congress voted to impeach President Bill Clinton for obstructing justice in 1998.
  • 230 members of Congress voted to impeach President Donald Trump for abuse of power this week.
In other words, Donald Trump holds the singular distinction of being impeached by more members of the U.S. House of Representatives than any other president in our nation’s history.

Now what?

This is not over.

Contrary to the lazy opinions of Beltway pundits and cable news talking heads, we can fight Mitch McConnell — who has proudly vowed “total coordination” with Trump — and demand Trump’s removal by the Senate.

But there is work to do, and to do quickly, including:

1. Public Citizen is gathering signatures on a nationwide petition for a real, impartial trial to show that the American people demand the Senate do its constitutional duty.

2. Public Citizen is deploying organizers on the ground to pressure key Republican senators.

3. Public Citizen is continuing to help lead the coalition of organizations that moved the House toward impeachment in the first place and will urge the Senate to do its part at this historic moment.

We can’t do any of it without the real-world financial resources to go up against Trump and his radical right sycophants in Congress and the courts.
Please donate right now so we can keep fighting Trump and all the harm he’s doing.

Contribute today and your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar!

Even better, sign up for automated monthly giving as part of our popular Sustainers program and your donation will be matched every month for an entire year!

Thank you for anything you can chip in!

- Robert Weissman, President of Public Citizen
