This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio 

On Thursday, Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), Gary Peters (D-MI) and I applauded the Senate passage of our Federal Advance Contracts Enhancement (FACE) Act. This bipartisan legislation requires the Federal Emergency Management Agency to ensure more effective use and management of its advance contracts for goods and services. The bill requires federal preparedness actions to be coordinated with states and localities to prevent gaps in recovery efforts from occurring. Read more here.
  
On Tuesday, I addressed students at Catholic University’s Busch School of Business in a talk entitled, “Catholic Social Doctrine and the Dignity of Work.” Read my remarks here or watch my full speech here.
  
On Tuesday, I issued a statement after the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control imposed sanctions against five officials of the Maduro regime who were previously sanctioned by the European Union or Canada.
 
On Wednesday, I requested information from Secretary of Defense Mark Esper on reports that banned Chinese surveillance equipment are installed at Department of Defense facilities. The letter follows a Wall Street Journal report that more than 2,700 Chinese-made surveillance devices are in use across federal installations. Read more here.

  
On Wednesday, Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and I led a group of lawmakers in introducing the bipartisan, bicameral Taxpayers and Savers Protection (TSP) Act, which would prevent the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board from steering federal retirement savings to China. Read more here. 
  
On Thursday, in my role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, I honored Global Freight and Commerce, LLC of Jacksonville, FL during National Veterans Small Business Week. Read more here.

On Thursday, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution I coauthored with Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, designating November 4 - 8, 2019 as “National Veteran’s Small Business Week.” Read more here.
  
On Thursday, I issued a statement after the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control imposed sanctions against three Nicaraguan regime officials for their “role in directing entities engaged in human rights abuses, election fraud, and corruption.” Read more here.
On Friday, I applauded the announcement by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that Florida will receive $380.7 million in block grants. These grants will cover losses of timber and irrigation infrastructure from Hurricane Michael. Read more here.

  • I joined Senators Martha McSally (R-AZ), Tim Kaine (D-VA), John Cornyn (R-TX), and Chris Coons (D-DE) in introducing bipartisan legislation to expand access to veteran treatment courts and allow those who served our nation to receive the care they need. Read more here.
  • I joined Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Rick Scott (R-FL) in introducing legislation to create a Federal Clearinghouse on School Safety Best Practices to help schools and their faculty, parents, and community officials identify school safety measures and resources for implementing them.   • I joined Senator James Lankford (R-OK) and colleagues in the House and Senate in an amicus brief to request the Supreme Court hear the Little Sisters of the Poor’s case in order to protect them from the Obama-era HHS contraceptive mandate, which could force faith based organizations to violate their religious beliefs. Read more here.
