NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT
Dear Friend,
On October 10th, 2018, Hurricane Michael ravaged the Florida Panhandle and left our communities in ruins. This Category 5 storm with 160 mile per hour winds leveled our homes and businesses and damaged our schools and medical facilities. It changed our lives forever. Despite the crippling devastation, our families, friends and neighbors have shown tremendous dedication and resilience in rebuilding our community. It was a privilege to spend my week honoring a few of the many who continue to work tirelessly to propel our recovery efforts and showcase the spirit and strength of the Panhandle.
Tyndall Air Force Base with Rep. Doug LambornOn Monday, Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) and I had the opportunity to visit with Tyndall Air Force Base leadership to discuss Tyndall's rebuild and tour the base. We witnessed not only the devastation that remains one year following Hurricane Michael, but the tremendous recovery and the spirit of the active duty and civilian work force.
NOAA Fisheries Laboratory I had a very informative visit with the employees and volunteers at the NOAA Fisheries Laboratory in Panama City Beach. They are doing important work that directly impacts our local economy and the science that they employ is fascinating!
Bay Medical Sacred Heart and Ascension Florida
It was great spending time with the team at Ascension Florida to hear about their hospital rebuild and how far they have come after losing their Level 2 Trauma Center to Hurricane Michael.
Hurricane Michael Heroes Recognition On Wednesday, I recognized a handful of people for the incredible and heroic work they did during the days immediately after Hurricane Michael made historic landfall. Our district is full of resilient, hard working people and I had the great honor of shaking a few of their hands. There are so many selfless individuals and groups that need recognition and I look forward to continuing to extend my appreciation for them at every opportunity.
Gulf Power Employee Breakfast
I had the privilege of speaking to some of the Gulf Power linemen. Last year our community took a destructive hit from the Category 5 storm, Michael. I was able to thank these heroes for all the hours they worked to ensure that our county had power. Within 13 days of the Hurricane, 99% of Gulf Power customers had their power thanks to these amazing men and women!
Lynn Haven Hurricane Michael Anniversary Commemoration
I was honored to join Lynn Haven city officials on the anniversary of Hurricane Michael as we celebrated the incredible recovery made thus far and committed to continue the recovery efforts.
WMBB News Channel 13 Ribbon Cutting
On Friday, I had the distinct pleasure of celebrating with WMBB News Channel 13 as they held the ribbon cutting on their newly renovated studio. At one year to the moment the station went off air during their live broadcast as Hurricane Michael made landfall, they cut the ribbon on their newly renovated space.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you in Congress!
Sincerely,
Dr. Neal Dunn Member of Congress

Constituent Casework CornerA constituent was relieved when the Social Security Administration (SSA) issued a full favorable decision on their disability claim, but they grew very concerned when months passed and no payments had been received. When they finally reached someone at SSA, they learned their claim was pulled for Quality Review and this process needed to be completed before any payments could be issued. After several more months had passed with the file still under review, they contacted my office when they reached a dire financial situation and were on the verge of losing their home. We were able to work with SSA to have the claim flagged as dire need and within two weeks the claim was fully processed and the constituent received their benefits.
