NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT
Dear Friend, This week, I spent time learning about our local river ecosystems, met with local leaders and health care professionals, and spoke to Governor DeSantis about Hurricane Michael recovery. Please read about my week below: Suwannee County River TourThank you to Ricky Gamble, Suwannee County Commissioner District 3, for the informative tour of the Suwannee, Santa Fe and Ichetucknee Rivers last weekend. We discussed the rivers' ecosystems and economic development in the area.
Project LIFT in Dunnellon It was great catching up with Mayor Burns and his wife Katherine in Dunnellon yesterday. Glad to see and hear about the great things happening in the City of Dunnellon, such as Project Life Initiatives for Teens (LIFT). Project LIFT works to improve the lives of at-risk teens and their families through treatment, counseling, and vocational skills training. I also enjoyed spending time with State Representative Charlie Stone, County Commissioner Kathy Bryant and members of the City Council. Lake City Medical Center It was an honor to be present at Lake City Medical Center as Mayor Stephen Witt read a proclamation for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I then joined Lake City Medical Center CEO Rick Naegler, Dr. Hayes, and others to discuss the issues they are facing in providing health care to North Florida.
Honoring Chief James SommersOn Tuesday, I had the honor of recognizing the life of late Suwannee County Public Safety Director, Chief James Sommers. Chief Sommers dedicated his life to bettering the lives of those throughout North Florida. I was able to meet Chief Sommers' family and present his son Gavin with a flag that was flown over the Capitol building in his father's honor. May Chief James Sommers rest in peace.
Bay County Contractors and Associates It was great to see many local contractors and friends at the Bay County Contractors and Associates event this week. The BCCA group always does an outstanding job advocating for local contractors. I was even able to catch up with Governor DeSantis at the event and discuss Hurricane Michael relief.
Meeting with Mexico Beach City Administrator Andy Anderson
I had the privilege of meeting with the Mexico Beach City Administrator, Andy Anderson. It was a pleasure meeting him and hearing of the encouraging stories of the resiliency of the city and the rebuild. Mexico Beach is coming back bigger and better! Windshield Tour of Mexico Beach It was an honor and privilege to ride around with the Mexico Beach Chief of Police, Anthony Kelly. I thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the progress of the city despite the catastrophic, Category 5 hurricane that made Mexico Beach known as “ground zero.” The Mexico Beach community is strong and I admire its resilience. With the proper help, this town is going to be amazing again! Thank you, Chief Kelly. Thank you for your continued energy and enthusiasm, as reflected in your letters and Facebook posts. Sincerely,

Constituent Casework CornerJoining the military was all this young constituent had ever dreamed of, however, they were extremely disappointed when they found out they were medically disqualified to join based off a diagnosis in their medical record they had never been diagnosed with. After repeatedly trying to explain to their recruiter the medical record was incorrect, obtaining a corrected record from their doctor and still considered disqualified, they contacted my office. We were able to work with the branch of service to have the constituent’s file corrected which allowed them to move forward with their enlistment.
