This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio 

On Thursday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and I introduced the  Canadian Snowbirds Act (S. 2507), which would allow some Canadian citizens to spend up to eight months a year vacationing in the United States, two months longer than they are allowed to stay now. Read more here.
   
On Thursday, I applauded the agreement between the U.S. Department of Commerce and Mexican tomato growers that will assist in defending tomato growers in Florida and across the U.S. from unjust and harmful produce dumping. Read more here.
On Thursday, in my role as a Senate Appropriator, I secured critical funding for Florida in three appropriations bills, including key funding for Florida’s agriculture industry, transportation, infrastructure, and affordable housing. Read more here. 
  
On Saturday, I penned an op-ed for the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald titled, “Helping Bahamians rebuild is a matter of basic morality — and thwarts China, too.” Read the English version here and the Spanish version here.  

On Thursday, I praised the Federal Energy Regulatory Committee’s (FERC) approval of a new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export project by Eagle LNG at JAXPORT in Jacksonville, Florida. Read more here.
 
On Wednesday, as the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues, I convened a hearing titled “ U.S.-Colombia Relations: New Opportunities to Reinforce and Strengthen Our Bilateral Relationship.” Read more here.
  
On Thursday, I joined Fox and Friends to discuss the recent attacks on Saudi oil facilities, the role of Iran, as well as the situation in Hong Kong. I also spoke with President Trump, in hopes that the United States will lay out the overwhelming proof that Iran was responsible for these attacks for the whole world to see. On Tuesday, as Co-Chair of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC), I convened a hearing to examine developments in Hong Kong and the future of U.S.-Hong Kong relations. Read more here.
   
On Wednesday, I issued a statement denouncing the actions of Senate Democrats after they voted against proceeding to the House-passed minibus, which will serve as the vehicle to fund various agencies within the federal government. Read more here.
    
On Tuesday, I launched my Medium page and posted a piece titled “The Necessity of Economic Decision” discussing the need to make economic decisions that will support the dignity of work, families, communities and national unity. Read more here.
  
On Tuesday, I issued a statement after the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designation of three individuals and 16 entities for enabling the Maduro crime family to profit from imports of food aid and distribution in Venezuela under the illegitimate regime’s food subsidy program. On Tuesday, I joined Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) and U.S. Representatives Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) and Steve Chabot (R-OH) to urge General Gene Dodaro, the Government Accountability Office Comptroller, to conduct an inquiry into Small Business Development Center’s (SBDC) budget process and management at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Read more here.
On Tuesday, I joined Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) and U.S. Representatives Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) and Steve Chabot (R-OH), in requesting the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Acting Administrator Chris Pilkerton to evaluate the Office of Entrepreneurial Development’s recent practice of requiring Small Business Development Center (SBDC) grantees to submit budget proposals based on the president’s requested budget. Legislation Introduced…

  • On Thursday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and I introduced the  Canadian Snowbirds Act (S. 2507), legislation that would allow some Canadian citizens to spend up to eight months a year vacationing in the United States, two months longer than they are allowed to stay now.
  • On Thursday, I joined Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) in introducing a Senate resolution recognizing the work, goals, and achievements of 523 non-profit, Hispanic-Serving Institutions throughout our nation by designating the week of September 16-22 as "National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week."
  • On Wednesday, I joined Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Josh Hawley (R-MO), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) in introducing the  American Security Drone Act of 2019, which would prohibit the U.S. government from procuring drones manufactured by covered foreign entities identified as national security threats, such as China.
