LAS VEGAS CITY COUNCILWOMAN MICHELE FIORE (Ward 6) SOTU INFORMATION

Dear Friends,

Every year I look forward to the President’s State of the Union.  Whether the President is a Democrat or a Republican, I enjoy hearing their vision for our great Country.  The State of the Union is often used for major policy initiatives, and this is of particular interest to Nevadans.

I look forward to hearing President Trump's vision for choosing greatness tonight, February 5th at 6:00 pm on your favorite local news station.

One of our Nevada families are special guests, and they will join the President and First Lady at the U.S. Capitol when President Donald J. Trump delivers the second State of the Union Address of his presidency.

This year’s guests come from all different walks of life, and each has an incredible story to tell. No matter their background, each one has something important in common: They represent the very best of America.

Meet the special people who will join the First Lady and President Trump:
Debra Bissell, Heather Armstrong, and Madison Armstrong
Gerald and Sharon David of Reno, Nevada, were tragically murdered in their home in Nevada by an illegal immigrant in January 2019. The terrible loss has devastated both their community and three generations of their family who will be represented at the State of the Union: the Davids’ daughter Debra, granddaughter Heather, and great-granddaughter Madison.

In this day of divisive political discourse, I look forward to President Trump continuing to make history by promoting extraordinary bipartisan proposals that support every American.  From what I have seen, this administration puts people before politics.

I am very excited to hear President Trump talk about Immigration, American workers, Infrastructure, Healthcare, and prescription drugs and America’s leadership around the World with greater National Security and peace.

We need a safe and legal immigration's system that Democrats and Republicans can agree on and work together.  That system must include border security, protection for migrants and their children from human traffickers and we must stem the import of drugs and criminals into our country.

Our current trade agreements do not protect our workers.  Democrats and Republicans should be able to agree that we should amend or replace any trade agreement that doesn't protect our workers and maximizes their paychecks.

Our Mayor, Mayor Carolyn Goodman traveled to Washington DC last year for a meeting with President Trump to discuss infrastructure.  I look forward to the President outlining his proposals to upgrade and update America’s infrastructure needs.

I'm looking forward to hearing President Trump’s vision to reign in Healthcare & prescription drug costs. This subject hits me personally. My mother is currently taking a prescription that costs $924 a month under Medicare. It is unreasonable that any American must borrow money to stay alive and well.  I believe with all my heart that Democrats and Republicans can work together to find a solution to the rising health care and prescription drug costs our citizens are facing.

Also, I look forward to hearing President Trump outline his vision for restoring America’s leadership position around the World and how that will be a big part of our national security and keeping Americans safe.

In closing, I am proud of the accomplishments made by this administration. I believe in President Trump's message about Choosing Greatness and putting people before politics. If we work together as we play together, America is unstoppable.

Think about that for a minute; you don't meet someone or date someone or work with someone and ask, "Are you a Democrat or are you a Republican?" We meet people, and we generally like one another. Democrats and Republicans aren't enemies in real life only in partisan politics.

I believe in our President's ability to solve problems, offer solutions with a bipartisan appeal that are both doable and practical.

Record President Trump's State of The Union and watch him produce what he says he will.

With love and respect for each of you,

Michele
