Nancy Pelosi Hails Al Sharpton as Nation's Hero

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told an audience this week that when America’s chips were down there was a specific man who rose to the occasion and saved the nation: the Rev. Al Sharpton. The California Democrat spoke at the National Action Network’s (NAN) Legislative & Policy Conference on Wednesday when she cast Mr. Sharpton as a national savior. Mrs. Pelosi said that groundwork laid by the MSNBC host during NAN’s founding decades ago paid dividends during the midterm elections. “We are going to be visionary,” she told an audience in the nation’s capital. “We are going to be ... Read More

Migrants Streaming into Tijuana, but Now Face Long Stay

About 2,000 Central American migrants had already reached the Mexican border city of Tijuana and another 1,200 from a second caravan set out from Mexico City toward the border Friday. With shelters already full, authorities in Tijuana opened a gymnasium and gated sport complex for up to 1,000 migrants, with a potential to expand to 3,000. Trump appointed Whitaker acting attorney general last week. Whitaker told Graham the investigation would be allowed to proceed, the ... Read More

Rubio Promotes 'Dignified Work,' Decries Universal Basic Income

“America’s not an economy, it’s a nation of peoples and families and communities, and our economy works for the people, not the people for the economy,” Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said as keynote speaker of the Antipoverty Forum hosted by The Heritage Foundation on Thursday. The foundation’s annual forum invites policy experts and practitioners to collaborate on how to best advance conservative antipoverty solutions in welfare, health care, education, and civil society. “The best antipoverty program is a job,” Rubio said, beginning his speech with a quote from former President Ronald Reagan. “Good jobs are jobs that ... Read More

GOP Urged to Fund Border Wall, Keep Other Promises in Lame Duck

Conservative Republicans are calling for a busy lame-duck session of Congress between now and Jan. 3, when Democrats will retake the majority in—and control of—the House. “Republicans still have an opportunity to do what we said,” Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, former chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, said in a statement provided to The Daily Signal. “We should fund the border security wall, pass a farm bill that requires able-bodied adults to work if they receive welfare, and keep working to hold the FBI and [Justice Department] accountable for their misconduct during and after the ... Read More
