Esteysi Sanchez sentenced to 15 to Life - Illegal Alien DUI Hit & Run in Oceanside in 2016; Drove over a Mile with Pedestrian's Body lodged in her Car
This horrific murder case that made big local and national headlines in June 2016 for its shocking and gruesome details, came to an end in a Vista courtroom yesterday when Esteysi Sanchez was sentenced after being convicted of 2nd Degree Murder, DUI Hit & Run, and Driving without a License by a jury in April.
She was sentenced to 15 years to Life in Prison by Judge Carlos Armour, who did an outstanding job in this case and rejected almost all of her high paid defense attorney’s outrageous arguments and claims in court. Infamous defense lawyer Herb Weston actually asked the judge yesterday to dismiss the convictions for “lack of evidence” and/or let her out on probation now with time served (26 months), claiming that what she did was simple manslaughter because it was just a typical DUI accident that ended badly, which is the exact opposite of the facts of the case presented in court.
29 year old Sanchez had been drinking heavily for about 8 hours straight that morning and the previous night when she drove her boyfriend’s car home from the Super 8 Motel on Mission Ave. at 6am. She had been “partying” at the Tropic Night Club Sunday night and then agreed to meet two men (also Latino illegal aliens) she knew from the club at the motel at about 3 am. But first she went and picked up a 17 year old Latino girl that she knew at her parent’s house in Oceanside. They all “partied” in the motel room together for about 3 hours. Sanchez never took the stand, but the other three admitted they drank, played spin the bottle (with clothes being removed) and ending with the 29 year old man having sex with the 17 year old underage girl, while Estaysi and the other guy supposedly just talked a few feet away in the room.
Sanchez has never had a driver license (despite being eligible for one in California since 2013) and the toxicology results showed her BAC was about .25 or higher when she drove up onto the sidewalk at about 45-50 mph on Mission Ave. and impaled 69 year-old Jack Tenhulzen through her windshield and into her passenger compartment. Jack was walking the opposite direction and never knew what hit him. The impact was so violent (see photos attached), that Jack’s, shoes, pants and belt were completely ripped off of his body and part of his leg was severed and landed on the back trunk. He likely was killed on impact. She then continued down Mission Ave. for more than a mile to her neighborhood where she abandoned her car about a block from her house and walked home, with Jack’s crumpled, lifeless body still in it. A witness near where her car stopped testified that she was on her cell phone with her mother as she casually just got out of the car and walked away, still wearing her high heels and party dress from her evening out. She went into her house and changed clothes. She never once called police. The witness did call 911 and Oceanside PD eventually tracked her down at her house about 40 minutes later after a search of the neighborhood for the woman who walked away from her car. The car was apparently not registered at the address she live at.
Judge Armour could have given her an additional 10-15 years for the hit and run and gross vehicular manslaughter convictions yesterday, but he ruled that it was part of the same criminal act of murder and stayed those sentences. He did sentence her to “time served” (26 months) for the Driving without a License conviction, so her 15 to Life sentence starts now. However, she will likely only serve 85% of that sentence (about 12 ½ years) before she comes up for parole, if she doesn’t have any major problems in prison. So there’s a pretty good chance she will be a free woman in 2030, at age 43. ICE will take custody of her when she leaves prison, deport her back to her home country of Mexico, and hopefully our border will be secured by then so she doesn’t just come right back up to Oceanside to live like she did a few years ago. I personally had hoped for a longer sentence – 25-30 years at least. Murdering an innocent person should come with a high price.
Six of us supporting justice attended the 90 minute sentencing hearing yesterday. I personally attended every day of hearings, the preliminary hearing, and the 5-day trial in this case to show community support for the innocent victim and to ensure justice was done in this case. Other patriots attended as they could. Jack had a small family, but his niece from Utah (see videos below) attended the trial and the sentencing yesterday. Her statement in court yesterday was powerful and riveting and caused Sanchez to start sobbing uncontrollably. Four San Diego TV News stations were there to film it all along with a reporter from the San Diego Union Tribune. I did interviews after the hearing with Channels 10 and 9 explaining to them that unchecked lawlessness for illegal aliens just encourages more law breaking, as this case clearly showed. Tens of thousands of innocent Americans have paid the ultimate price for our open borders and lax enforcement.
All of San Diego and the world now knows that when you commit heinous murders in our country, even if you are a “protected” illegal alien in sanctuary California, you will be held accountable and do hard time for your crimes.
Good coverage in the SDUT today. Article below includes a great 2 minute Fox News video from last night’s newscast. The comments under the article are all good and positive.
Excellent video piece on CBS 8:
ABC 10 News mentions at 4 pm yesterday that she’s an illegal alien and teases comments from my post-sentencing interview for the next story which aired at 6 pm.
RIP Jack. Your death was not in vain.
