LAS VEGAS - COUNCILWOMAN (Ward 6) SEEKS YOUR SUPPORTOF UNLV RODEO TEAM

It's always an honor to be the host city when our United States Presidents come to town. Thank you, President Trump, for visiting Las Vegas and speaking at the Nevada Republican Party 2018 State Convention. Love him or not, he activates all parties. I look forward to presenting our President Donald Trump with the Key to our great City of Las Vegas upon his return.

OUR GOLDEN KNIGHTS!!!
Congratulations to our very own Vegas Born, Vegas Strong Golden Knights for sweeping up 5 Awards & Trophies at the 2018 National Hockey League Awards last week!!! The NHL community paid tribute to Las Vegas first responders at the 2018 NHL Awards too. It was an amazing heartfelt evening.

  • Our Golden Knights took home the Clarence S. Campbell Trophy Bowl Winner 2018.
  • McPhee won the NHL General Manager of the Year Award.
  • Gallant won the Jack Adams Award as Coach of the Year.
  • Karlsson won the Lady Byng Trophy, which recognizes sportsmanship, gentlemanly conduct and a high standard of playing ability.
  • Engelland won the Mark Messier Leadership Award.
As of last Thursday, summer is officially here, and there's no better way to celebrate it than throwing on the sunscreen, going outside and getting in the water somehow.

Many of our Las Vegas parks have refreshing water features to keep the kids cool during these hot summer days, but now, as of last Saturday, Gilcrease Brothers Park also has an EXTRA something. They've added a brand NEW SENSORY WALL. Sensory walls are great for kids in general because they are stimulating. They exercise various functions in our children's developing brains.
This kind of wall will be especially conducive to those children who may experience cognitive delays and or neurological challenges such as Autism by offering access to hands-on demonstrations of cause and effect.
While other features, like it's gears or the turning color wheel, are appealing to all kids, it may perhaps be especially fascinating to our little visual learners, our Deaf children. The textures and sound elements may be most appealing to our blind children.

We want all of our kids to have access to fun and be able to exercise their bodies and minds in our local parks, and so we are working on creating bigger and better innovations to make sure that all children have a great space to grow and gain as much as they can from their time spent there, in more universally designed spaces.
I had the pleasure of riding in Ronald Ferguson's Delorean from Back to the Future, after getting invited to the Car Stars event. It was an excellent fundraiser put on by Paul Casey, who raises money for special needs with his great shows. I also got to meet Christine along with her cast and crew, who was a car from a horror movie made 35 years ago. It was a truly fabulous event where I was able to meet dozens of infamous Car Stars.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) has recently been awarded the Gold Travvy Award for Best Tourism Board! We also received the Glow Award, the Outstanding Achievement in PAFR for FY2017, and the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for FY2017.
All my love and so much more to come.
Your Councilwoman,
Michele
