The Failed Conservative Putsch Which Cleared the Way for Lenin and Trotsky
by Michael Jabara Carley on Fri, Sep 1, 2017
You wouldn't know it from the media, but Russia is marking the centenary of the Russian revolution with a lively national debate about what happened, why, who was right and who was murderous, and what it all means. It is truly extraordinary, with everyone from absolute monarchists (of which there are many in Russia, including among elites), to neo-bolsheviks, and everyone in between sticking their oar in, in typical, raucous, Russian style. Talk shows, museum exhibits, and dinner table arguments are devoted to the subject. Here is a fascinating article from leftish historian, Michael Jabara Carley, about a last ditch attempted putsch by conservatives, exactly 100 years ago, to stop the Big Red Wave.
70K Sign White House Petition to Declare Soros a 'Terrorist' and Seize His Assets
by RI Staff on Fri, Sep 1, 2017
All well and good, but how do we know the White House is being honest about the numbers? Whatever, the man is universally reviled in Russia, and RT is on the story: From RT.com In less than a fortnight, more than 70,000 people have signed a petition accusing billionaire investor George Soros of sedition against the US and demanding that he and his affiliates be declared “domestic terrorists” and that his assets be seized.
Australia Licks Washington's Blood-Soaked Boots — Again
by David Macilwain on Fri, Sep 1, 2017
One of the key figures involved in the conspiracy to invade Iraq in 2003, based on a concocted and completely fraudulent story about weapons of mass destruction, was interviewed this Thursday by Australia’s national broadcaster the ABC. Much like Tony Blair, John Howard was never tried and imprisoned for his crimes, though he was relieved of his Prime Ministerial duties in the election of 2007, losing his own seat as well as the general election. Although the “Howard Years” are a black stain on Australia’s record as a forward-looking and open-minded nation, the man remains popular as a speaker for conservative forums and commentator in our right-wing media.
John McCain Began Sucking up to Neocons in Order to Become President
by Charles Bausman on Fri, Sep 1, 2017
A very good, well-researched, very long article appeared today in the Unz Review, written by an excellent professional dissector of the Neocon web which is strangling Washington, Stephen Sniegoski. Sniegoski notices that McCain was not always the psychopathic super-hawk he has been for the last decade, and if anything he was anti-interventionist on many issues until the late 90s, when the presidency became a realistic prospect. Some money quotes:
Made in America: US-Trained 'Moderate' Rebels Sold Their Weapons to ISIS
by RT on Fri, Sep 1, 2017
Not only were the US-backed ‘moderate’ militants in southern Syria never meant to fight ISIS, but their commanders actually traded US-made weapons and ammunition to terrorists, a rebel defector claimed in an interview with Rossiya-24. Asaad As-Salem says he defected from the US-backed Maghawir al-Thawra group stationed at the At-Tanf base in southern Syria, and surrendered to Syrian government forces. Along with a number of other militants and their families, they escaped At-Tanf and currently reside in a refugee camp near Damascus. The former militant told Rossiya-24 correspondent Eugeniy Poddubny that he served as a chief security officer at the base, and that he and his men joined the US-backed rebel group to fight Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terrorists.
Iranian Army Commander: Israeli, US, UK Spy Agencies Plotting Against Iran With Saudi Petrodollars
by Tasnim on Fri, Sep 1, 2017
Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said plots hatched in recent years by the intelligence services of Israel, the US and Britain against the Islamic Republic have been financed by Saudi Arabia. Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Iran’s enemies have been seeking to eliminate the Islamic Establishment, Brigadier General Pourdastan said in a speech on Wednesday. In the early years after the revolution, the enemies made every attempt to create conflicts and instigate military coups to overthrow the new Iranian government by using the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) terrorists, he said.
Russian Military Looks to Recruit More Orthodox Priests
by RI Staff on Fri, Sep 1, 2017
An article appeared in RIA Novosti describing the great interest to increase the number of priests serving with the Russian Military, expressed by both the Ministry of Defense, and most servicemen. Whilst the article is not recent, it illustrates the broader relationship between the Russian Church and Military, which we have written about recently, a deep friendship which has existed for millennia.
Could the US Use Its Gold Reserves to Avoid a Debt Ceiling Showdown?
by Paul Goncharoff on Fri, Sep 1, 2017
The last day of August in Moscow, a bright cool sunny morning. I walked to the nearby farmers market hoping to buy a melon for later. While selecting a ripe “Torpedo” melon I was startled by a finger poke from behind. A familiar face, it was my “Znakhar” woman (seeress) whom I have written about before. We exchanged pleasantries, commenting about the price of melons, which a month ago were 59 rubles a kilo, now were 25 rubles a kilo ($0.45). The Znakhar loaded up with three big ones, asking me with a grin to help her lug her bag of goods to the tram…. I should have seen that coming. While waiting for the tram she asked whether I thought any more about her vision of global changes and realignments.
US Gives Russia Two Days to Close San Francisco Consulate
by RI Staff on Thu, Aug 31, 2017
State Department has given Russia two days to close its consulate in San Francisco, and two more offices in Washington and New York: "In the spirit of parity invoked by the Russians, we are requiring the Russian government to close its consulate general in San Francisco, a chancery annex in Washington, D.C., and a consular annex in New York City," Nauert said. "These closures will need to be accomplished by September 2."
