The August 6th FOX News debate may have been the
turning point that set Donald Trump on
the path to the Republican nomination for president.
Depending upon how many fence-sitters watched, Tuesday night’s
interview with FOX News’ host Megyn
Kelly may turn out to be a turning point that put him in the White House.
For the first time many voters got to see the second of the “two
Donald Trumps” that Ben Carson referred to a few weeks back. He made peace with a former adversary and was
calm, poised, personable and gracious.
Everyone has known Hillary Clinton for decades. No great shift in opinion about her is likely
to occur, especially among Bernie Sanders supporters. Her unlikeables are set in stone.
But Trump is new to political stage. He still has the potential to change
perceptions about him going into the fall campaign. And if his interview with Kelly is any
indication, he’s going to successfully do so.

P.S. At a private
dinner I attended Tuesday night in DC, Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse repeated his
position that he cannot support the Republican nominee for president. He maintained he was looking out for the long-term
interests of his young children.
OK, fine. We all
should do that.
However, how on God’s green earth can anyone, especially a
conservative, think four, or maybe eight, years of Hillary in the White House
is in the best long-term interest of his kids?
Or mine. Or yours?

Now this is a real shame.
Tax-hiking RINO state Sen. Greg Brower of Reno was scared out of running for re-election by
the prospect of facing royally P.O.’ed Republican primary voters over his vote
for the largest tax hike in Nevada history last year.
Unfortunately, neither of the two Republican candidates
running to replace him – Heidi Gansert
and Eugene Hoover – are firmly
committed enough to opposing tax hikes to put their John Hancock on the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.
What unfortunate pale pastel choice taxpayers in that
district have been given in a year when so many clear, bold choices are
available in so many other GOP primary races around the state.
