by John Bacon - USA TODAY

Six armed militants opened fire Sunday at an Ivory Coast beach resort packed with vacationers, killing 16 people and creating a gory scene of panic and bloodshed before security forces swept in and killed the militants, authorities said. The gunman targeted three hotels in Grand-Bassam, a tourist town that had drawn big crowds during a heat wave. The victims included 14 civilians and two soldiers, President Alassane Ouattara said. Two-thirds in a poll say socialism or communism is more compassionate than capitalism ...
Frank Luntz: Young voters spell doom for GOP
Frank I. Luntz - USA TODAY

Survey of young voters should sound the alarm for the Republican Party
If you want to understand today’s young Americans, consider this: 58% of them think “socialism” is the most compassionate political system, compared with just 33% who pick “capitalism.”  Heck, 9% even voted for “communism.” That’s right: Two-thirds in a poll I did last month say socialism or communism is more compassionate than capitalism. While Republicans fight a war over how high to build a mythical wall on our Southern border, they ignore the war for the hearts and minds of America’s largest generation in history — even bigger than the Baby Boomers. The Republican Party doesn’t have a problem with younger voters. Younger voters have a problem with the Republican Party, and it is rapidly becoming a long-term electoral crisis. [...]

In Battle Against Donald Trump, Mitt Romney Stumps for John Kasich in Ohio
Here's what Mitt Romney will be doing in Ohio Monday as he campaigns with John Kasich
as the governor runs neck-and-neck with Donald Trump.

by Alison Bauter

Boston, MA - Mitt Romney is matching words with action Monday, traveling to Ohio to support Gov. John Kasich in a neck-and-neck, home-turf nomination battle against billionaire businessman Donald Trump. As protests and even acts of violence around his events escalate, Trump continues to enjoy a wide lead in delegate count. Victories Tuesday in Ohio and other winner-take-all primary states would all but assure he clinches the Republican presidential nomination. Romney is bent on stopping him. [...]

Mitt Romney to Campaign With John Kasich in Ohio
by Hallie Jackson

Mitt Romney will campaign with John Kasich Monday at two stops in Ohio, NBC News has learned from a source familiar with the plans. Romney is not expected to endorse the Ohio governor during the campaign swing, the source said, but it will be the first time Romney has campaigned on behalf of a Republican candidate this cycle. It's a significant move for the former Republican nominee, who previously recorded campaign telephone "robocalls" for Kasich as well as Marco Rubio. [...]

What Trump Supporters Were Doing Before Trump
by Dan Hopkins

Typically, at this point in a presidential election cycle, punditry is focused on campaign tactics and delegate counts — who is advertising where, who is endorsing whom. But the unexpected rise of Donald Trump has scrambled the usual rituals and led to a wave of commentary about a much more fundamental question: the future of the Republican Party. To know whether Trump’s rise is a one-off or the opening act of a broader shift in American politics, though, we need to understand what’s motivating his supporters. Do they back him because they share at least some of his positions on issues or for other reasons, like his tone, his fame or his status as an outsider? Whether Trump has the potential to realign American politics hinges on the answer. [...]

Sher writes ...

This is getting worse and worse, folks. One way or the other our "rulers" intend to win against us! So...even if Trump wins the primary with enough delegates, said delegates are no longer bound to support the American electorate's choice?  This is called tyranny of the highest order.  The GOP IS now the DNC which practices some of the same unethical games.  Either the GOP gets its non-Trump candidate or it will 1.  take over our choice and give us their candidate or 2. make sure Hillary is elected.   They are bound and determined to continue stealing from we-the-people, making promises they have no intentions of keeping, continuing to break down what's left of the US Republic until they've bled us dry and ensuring they will have a place at the table of the "overlords" when one-world government is finally instituted...by them.  These are truly evil beings.  It's time to throw all the bums out and end the political party system...once and for all.

RNC Plays Around With Delegate Rules
Delegates At GOP Convention Not Bound On First Ballot
by Kerry Pickett - Daily Caller

A Republican National Committee Standing Rules Committee member told the membership Friday that convention delegates are not bound to cast their votes at the convention according to primary vote results in the first round of voting. Curly Haugland of North Dakota, a long time member of the RNC Standing Rules Committee, sent a letter to the RNC

membership at large about this issue. He explained how he came to the conclusion that all Republican delegates who participate in the 2016 Republican National Convention are unbound on each ballot round, including the first. As most of you know, I have been defending the right of the delegates to the Republican National Convention to vote according to their personal choice in all matters to come before the Republican National Convention, including the vote to nominate the Republican Candidate for President, for several years. w vid Trump’s opponents vie for contested convention
by David Jackson - USA TODAY

ORLANDO — The last, best hope for Donald Trump's opponents may be a different kind of convention — one that could also split the party even further apart. Some call it an open convention, while others prefer the terms "contested," "disputed," or "brokered." Whatever the words, Trump rivals Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and John Kasich are trying to accrue enough delegates ahead of the July convention to deny the front-running billionaire the necessary majority on the first ballot — forcing a second ballot, something the Republicans have not seen in more than half-a-century. "My new favorite term is 'multi-ballot,'" said Ben Ginsberg, an election law expert and a top Republican campaign attorney. [...]

w vid HOW A CONTESTED GOP CONVENTION MIGHT WORK
by Deirdre Shesgreen - USA TODAY

... A Republican candidate needs to win a majority of the 2,472 GOP delegates — at least 1,237 — to become the nominee. Trump or another GOP contender could rack up that number in the primaries unfolding now. But if no candidate has reached that threshold when the last primary is over on June 7, then July’s Republican convention in Cleveland will be a political junkie’s dream — and the GOP’s nightmare. If Trump or another GOP candidate is close to the magic number, he could try to persuade the “unbound delegates”— those who because of party rules are not required to support a specific candidate — to vote for him before the roll call begins. The number of unbound delegates is not yet clear, but it could be a few hundred people. That’s what happened in 1976, when Gerald Ford rallied uncommitted delegates to his side before the first round of voting and he beat out Ronald Reagan without too much fanfare. [...]

Billionaire blamed for ‘toxic’ atmosphere as tensions rise at rallies
by David Jackson and Aamer Madhani - USA TODAY

ORLANDO — A Republican presidential race that has been dominated by economic anxiety and outsider politics heads toward important primaries Tuesday under the cloud of a troubling new issue: the prospect of violence. The violence that has marred Donald Trump rallies — forcing him to cancel one event Friday night in Chicago — has put the Republican front-runner on the defensive as rivals argue that his rhetoric is encouraging chaos and mayhem. Arizona's presidential preference election will be held March 22

w vid Donald Trump may sound like Joe Arpaio, but in Arizona he gets a very different reception
by Yvonne Wingett Sanchez - The Arizona Republic

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio was just warming up the crowd for Donald Trump, but it would have been easy to mistake his rhetoric and laser focus on illegal immigration for the GOP's presidential front-runner. Despite the similarities, Arpaio's home-state Republican establishment has approached Trump very differently than it does the sheriff. Many of the Republican politicians who have sought Arpaio's approval are the same ones now giving Trump the cold shoulder, as the state's voters prepare to make their will known in the 2016 presidential race. Arizona's presidential preference election will be held March 22. [...]

w vid Trump says he hopes he hasn't encouraged violence at rallies
by Cooper Allen - USA TODAY

Donald Trump tackled questions about Putin, Muslims and recent violence at his campaign rallies during CNN's Republican debate. Following a protester on Wednesday getting punched by a Trump supporter at a North Carolina campaign event, Donald Trump was asked during Thursday's debate at the University of Miami whether he worries he's helped encouraged violent responses at his rallies. "I hope not. I truly hope not," Trump said. He explained that those at his rally have "tremendous passion and love for the country." "They have anger that's unbelievable," he said. He added, though, regarding violent reactions: "I certainly do not condone that at all." [...]

VANDALIA, Ohio –- A man who was “yelling and flailing his arms” tried to rush the stage at Donald Trump’s first Ohio rally this weekend, hours after scuffles between supporters and protesters helped to cancel a Trump event in Chicago. The man jumped a barrier surrounding the stage where the GOP front-runner spoke, but was tackled by law enforcement officers, said Dayton Police K-9 officer Nathan Spelman. [...]
