NEVADA NEWS & VIEWS 02/25/2016

IN THE NEWS

Two media hits in two articles about the two big stories out of Nevada this week…

First up: Ben Botkin’s story on Donald Trump’s resounding thumping of Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz in the Nevada GOP prez caucus…

Trump's win wasn't necessarily a surprise, though his margin surprised some.

"I thought Cruz and Rubio would do better here because they were more organized, because it was a caucus, and because we have a strong Hispanic population," said conservative blogger Chuck Muth.

Muth, is a consultant for a super PAC that backs (Dr. Ben) Carson.

"If it wasn't for Carson, I'd be with Trump," said Muth, president of Citizen Outreach, a conservative Nevada grassroots organization. “The second choice of all of these other candidates is Trump for a lot of them."

The more Trump wins, the more people will be drawn to him, he said.

"There is a very real and a strong human desire to be with a winner," Muth said.

Secondly, National Review’s John Fund on an in-depth look at the totally absurd and offensive idea of RINO Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval replacing the late, great Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court…

“In 2014, a stunning 79 percent of Silver State voters rejected a gross-receipts tax applying to business with over $1 million in revenue. Sandoval didn’t back the tax, but as soon as he won reelection that year, he proposed a similar tax with a threshold of $4 million in business revenue and rammed it though the legislature. ‘He traded away every kind of conservative reform measure on the table in order to get Democratic votes to pass his billion-dollar-plus tax increase,’ conservative activist Chuck Muth told me.”

Cheers.

MUTH’S TRUTHS

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“If Rubio or Cruz can’t lock horns with Donald Trump and best him Thursday night in the political gong show that we call a debate, then it’s not going to happen. If Marco Rubio can’t stand up to Donald Trump’s juvenile insults and turn the tables, then Rubio isn’t tough or ruthless enough to be president of the United States. If Ted Cruz can’t use his lawyerly skills to mercilessly shred Donald Trump’s equivocations and half-truths and flip-flops, then Cruz isn’t strong or canny enough to be president of the United States. If these guys can’t sense the urgency of the moment and rise to the challenge by bringing down Trump, they have no business asking for conservatives’ votes or leading America in a dark and dangerous moment on the world stage.” – Mark Antonio Wright of National Review
