LAS VEGAS NO-TAX-HIKE RAIDERS
I’m onboard with building a new stadium (possibly landing us
the Oakland Raiders NFL team) between UNLV and the Strip…providing it does NOT
result in a tax hike, either on the people of Nevada (we’re Taxed Enough
Already especially after the last session of the Legislature!) or our
tourists.
After all, taxation without representation was something our
Founders fought against long before Al Gore even invented football.
We already have a pot of gold accumulating every year from
taxes on tourists through the existing room tax. That money could and should be diverted to
building the new stadium rather than going to the Las Vegas Convention and
Visitors Authority (LVCVA) for an expansion of the convention center.
“If fully funding the stadium requires scaling back the
convention center expansion,” the Las Vegas Review-Journal editorialized on
Sunday, “then lawmakers and local officials should do it. A room tax increase, or any tax increase,
should be the last option on the table.”
Knowing how lawmakers love to raise taxes, especially this
shameful crop of Republican lawmakers in office today, it’d be best to just
take that option COMPLETELY off the table now.
Cheers.

TAX PLEDGE WATCH
My e-pen-pal Durk
Pearson of Parts Unknown, Nevada sent a suggestion this week…
Highlight in our reporting which candidates for office have
signed and which ones have not signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge so voters
know and can pressure candidates on this issue when they come a’callin’.
It’s a great idea.
And in that spirit, in the GOP primary for Nevada’s 3rd
Congressional District here are the known candidates who HAVE and have NOT
signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge as of this date…
Danny Tarkanian – HAS signedAndy Matthews – HAS signedMichele Fiore – HAS signedMichael Roberson – has NOT signedAnnette Teijeiro – has NOT signed
