I wrote about the environmental contamination on Long Island for over 10
years when I was writing about breast cancer in this region. Unlike most parts
of the country, including Westchester Cty, Queens, NYC, etc., Long Island has a
sole-source aquifer, so every contaminant stays in the ground and has
long-lasting and often deadly effects. Most of the industry has left, like
Grumman and Sperry and Cerro Wire, but the aftereffects of the chemicals they
