FREEDOMWORKS 10/20/2015 GOP MUST NOT RAISE SPENDING!

1. Five Myths About the House Freedom Caucus - by Adam Brandon via Fox News

Political journalism in the modern era increasingly resembles a series of gossip columns, where catty swipes at "the other side" replace hard news and actual analysis.
With the constant flow of information passing through people's Twitter feeds and Facebook walls, public opinion has never been more easily shaped by quick and simplistic memes, slogans and sound bites. As long as it fits in 140 characters, accuracy be hanged!
Few have been the victims of this misinformation mill as much as the House Freedom Caucus, a group of about 40 conservative Republican lawmakers trying to actually do something meaningful in government. But the status quo doesn't take challenges lightly, and so the HFC has become a virtual pincushion for the barbs of media elites eager to marginalize the opposition. Read more here...

2. The House Freedom Caucus Should Not 'Divorce' the GOP - by Adam Brandon via Fox News
In Juan Williams' latest piece for Fox News Opinion, he charges the liberty wing of the Republican Party with being overly disruptive to the GOP, and suggests that it's time they split off formally and form their own party.
I'm sure Williams, along with many other Democrats, would love to see their political opposition splintered. Memories of the Green Party's spoiler effect in the 2000 elections are still too fresh for comfort. But this analysis largely misses the point of what's going on. Read more here...

Saturday, October 17 was a historic day for liberty in North Carolina! Allen Page and I were delighted to be a part of this important grassroots event.
Citizens from around the state participated in the North Carolina Tea Party Constitutional Caucus. Caucus events were held simultaneously in nine different locations across the state. The Mission of the NC Tea Party Constitutional Caucus was "to find one United States Presidential and one North Carolina Senatorial grassroots candidate who embrace limited government, individual rights, and fiscal responsibility, and who represents the citizens of the State and not special interests". 4. GOP Must Not Allow Obama and Big Spenders in Both Parties to Blow Through Spending Caps - by Senior Economic Contributor Stephen Moore via The Washington Times

It hasn't gotten much attention, but two big budget showdowns are looming in Washington in the weeks ahead. The first is what to do about raising the $18 trillion debt ceiling. And the second is whether to retain the spending caps/sequester cuts in the 2016 budget. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew announced last week that Congress will bump up against the debt ceiling in November.
These fights take on special salience now because voters are rightfully angry about the fiscal mismanagement in Washington over the past several years. In 2015 the U.S. government ran up one of the largest budget deficits in history - borrowing more than $1 billion a day seven days a week and twice on Sunday. Read more here...

6. EPA Air Conditioning Rule Gets Frosty Reception from FreedomWorks

Following EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy's signing of a proposed rule aimed at restricting emissions from air conditioners, FreedomWorks commented:
"Enough is enough! EPA regulations cost the economy $379 billion each year. We should be focusing on pro-growth policies instead of regulations that further damage our already struggling economy."
"We effectively have a fourth branch of government, one that is clearly unconstitutional. At some point, Congress is going to have to hold rogue agencies like the EPA accountable." Read more here...
