THE EMPIRE STRUCK BACK
Busy day today out of the office today, so I'll make this short and sweet and get into it in more detail later this week.
Bottom line: The PAC set up to defend Gov. Brian Sandoval's $1.4 billion tax hike - including the new gross receipts tax - filed a lawsuit on Monday challenging our tax repeal referendum filed by the We Decide Coalition.
The timing is important and a sign of things to come...
The PAC - represented by two former government lawyers involved in former Secretary of State Ross Miller's
unsuccessful lawsuit against Citizen Outreach a couple years ago trying
to force us to disclose the identity of our donors - waited until the
last day possible to file the lawsuit.
Why? To run out the clock.
Opponents
of the tax repeal referendum will use the tried-and-true tactic of
drawing out the legal challenges as long as possible so as to leave us
with as little time as possible to gather signatures should we prevail
in the lawsuit.
Anyway, we've been sued, though I haven't yet
been served. I've read the suit and admit that one of the points raised
actually has some merit. So I will be conferring with our attorney and
proceed accordingly.
In the meantime, prepare for a long,
drawn-out fight with the tax-hikers and the high-priced lawyers that
their millions of special interests dollars are paying for.
The
odds are truly against us. This is David and Goliath stuff. But it's a
fight worth fighting for. I mean, if you're gonna fight, you may as
well fight for something big, right?
And a $1.4 billion tax hike is awfully big!
Thank you for sticking with us in this fight. Stand by and stay tuned...
