CAMPAIGN FOR LIBERTY 08/11/2015

Dear Conservatives,

Members of the House and Senate have left town for their August recess.

But just because Congress is not in Washington, D.C., doesn't mean you and I can take a recess from working diligently to advance liberty.

You see, over the next few weeks, many senators and representatives will be holding Town Hall Meetings and providing opportunities for constituents to meet them in their local offices.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to ask your representative and senators about their position on key liberty issues, like:

**** Audit the Fed (H.R. 24/S. 264) - Audit the Fed currently has 184 cosponsors in the House and 32 in the Senate. We are very close to passing this legislation through the House AND Senate and finally planting it on President Obama's desk.

If Audit the Fed passes the Senate and President Obama signs it, then the American people will finally learn the full truth about the Federal Reserve. If he vetoes it, then Audit the Fed will become a major issue in the 2016 Presidential elections.

You can see the list of Senate cosponsors here and the list of House cosponsors here. If your representative and senator has not yet cosponsored Audit the Fed, please ask them to do so as soon as Congress reconvenes in September.

If your representative or senators have cosponsored, thank them, and ask them to do all they can to convince the House and Senate Leadership to hold roll call votes on the bill this fall.

**** The iGaming Ban (H.R. 707/S. 1668) - When Congress returns in September, there will likely be another attempt to sneak the so-called "Restoration of America's Wire Act" (more accurately named the iGaming Ban) onto "must-pass" legislation such as the end-of-year appropriations bill.

This bill nullifies state laws by making it a federal crime to engage in any type of online gaming - including state lotteries - and gives the federal government another excuse to spy on our online activities.

Even worse, it is all being done to benefit one billionaire casino mogul who also happens to be one of the country's top political donors.

Campaign for Liberty staff have also heard that iGaming Ban proponents may try to pass legislation temporarily usurping the states' authority over iGaming with a "moratorium" until the federal government conducts a "study" of the issue.

This is an attempt to sneak an iGaming Ban into law by continually extending the "moratorium" and coming up with some phony study justifying the Federal Government outlawing iGaming.

You can see which representatives are cosponsoring the iGaming Ban here and which senators are cosponsoring the bill here.

If your senators or representative are cosponsoring the bill, please ask them to reconsider their support for this anti-liberty legislation, to publicly pledge to oppose any attempts to attach the iGaming Ban to any other "must-pass" legislation, and to oppose any attempts to "temporarily" usurp the states' authority over iGaming.

If your senators or representative are NOT cosponsoring the iGaming Ban, encourage them to keep their name off the bill and publicly pledge to vote against any legislation containing an iGaming Ban.

**** The National Internet Tax Mandate (H.R. 2775/S. 698) - Campaign for Liberty activists have prevented this bill - which would raise prices on every good you purchase online - from even receiving a vote in the House of Representatives. So the statists and special interest behind this bill have come up with a new scheme to sneak this bill into law.

The latest scheme is to attach the National Internet Tax Mandate to legislation extending the Internet Access Tax Moratorium, which stops government from taxing your Internet access.

Legislation making the moratorium permanent passed the House in June, but has yet to be taken up by the Senate. The moratorium expires at the end of September, so Congress will not have much time to extend the moratorium when they return after Labor Day.

National Internet Tax Mandate proponents are counting on the need for quick action to allow them to attach it to the Internet Access Tax Moratorium, ram it through Congress, and send it to the President's desk... all before grassroots opposition to this sleazy deal can be mobilized.

That is why you should attend Town Hall Meetings near you and ask your senators and representative to publicly pledge to vote against any legislation containing the National Internet Tax Mandate - including legislation extending, or making permanent, the Internet Access Tax Moratorium.

You can see which representatives are cosponsoring the National Internet Tax Mandate here and which senators are cosponsoring it here.

Town Hall Meeting schedules should be available on their web site, and should be promoted in your local media.

If your representative or senators are not holding a Town Hall Meeting, call their local office and see if you can schedule a meeting with him or her to discuss Audit the Fed, the iGaming Ban, and the National Internet Tax Mandate.

Below are links to three PDF policy briefs dealing with Audit the Fed, the iGaming Ban, and the National Internet Tax Mandate.

National Internet Tax Mandate: Click here to download.

iGaming Ban: Click here to download.

Feel free to download and print copies to distribute at Town Hall meetings near you.

It's important Campaign for Liberty members not let this opportunity to directly confront their representative and senators go to waste.

So please plan to attend a Town Hall near you, or try to schedule a meeting with your elected officials over the August "district work period."

And if you can, please make a generous contribution to Campaign for Liberty to help our efforts to pass Audit the Fed and stop special interest schemes to impose new taxes and regulations on the Internet.

While Congress is out of town, Campaign for Liberty staff are preparing a major campaign to force the Senate to vote on Audit the Fed this fall, as well as stop Congress from passing the iGaming Ban, and the National Internet Tax Mandate.

We will be preparing op-eds, hard-hitting Internet, print, and even TV Ads (if the funds are available), email campaigns, and letters designed to turn the heat up on the Senate.

We will also continue meeting with key staff on Capitol Hill to implement our strategy.

By attending Town Hall Meetings - or having a one-on-one meeting in their local office - and asking them to support Audit the Fed, you can help jumpstart our fall push to get a vote on his important legislation.

And while you're there, you can make sure your senators and representative know you expect them to oppose any efforts to infringe on Internet Freedom - like the iGaming Ban and the National Internet Tax Mandate.

Then by making a generous contribution to Campaign for Liberty today, you can make sure we have the resources to begin implementing our ambitious plans to pass Audit the Fed, stop the iGaming Ban, and defeat the National Internet Tax Mandate as soon as Congress returns in September.

In Liberty,

Norm Singleton
Senior Vice President

P.S. The statists are not taking August off, and neither can we. You and I must take advantage of the month-long Congressional recess to promote key issues.

Please make every effort to either attend a Town Hall Meeting or schedule a meeting with your representative and senators to ask them to support Audit the Fed, and defend Internet Freedom by opposing the iGaming Ban and the National Internet Tax Mandate.
