NEVADA - BRUSHFIRE ALERT 05/29/2015

The following alert came to us this afternoon from our friend Janine Hansen at Nevada Families...

These Republican Assemblymen:
Paul Anderson, John Hambrick, Pat Hickey, Randy Kirner, James Oscarson
Voted last night in Assembly Ways and Means for the Governor's Tax Increase

MESSAGE: We are extremely disappointed that you as a Republican voted for the Governor's tax increase AB464.  This is the largest tax increase in Nevada history. This bill contains a gross receipts tax, renamed a "commerce" tax, which is a betrayal of the voters who in 2014, voted against a gross receipts tax by 78%. If your business grosses over 3.5 million you will pay the Gross Receipts Tax even if your business does not make a profit!  "Gross Receipts" translates into a mini-IRS for Nevada businesses, a new tax that can be increased by future Legislatures. It contains a huge increase in the business license fee from $200 to $500. AB464 raises the payroll tax from 1.17% on what employers pay employees in payroll to 1.475% and lowers the quarterly exemption from $85,000 in payroll to $50,000 in gross payroll.  These taxes further suppress jobs and will push many businesses over the edge.   (Or write your own message).

According to Gallup only 44% of adult Americans have full time jobs.

AB464 Testimony: Largest Tax Increase in Nevada History

Submitted by: Janine Hansen, State President Nevada Families for Freedom, May 21, 2015

On February 3, 2015 in an article entitled "The Big Lie: 5.6% Unemployment", the Chairman and CEO of Gallup, Jim Clifton, reported the fact that only 44% of American adults have full time jobs of 30 hours a week or more.

He says, "There's no other way to say this, the official unemployment rate, which cruelly overlooks the suffering of the long-term and often permanently unemployed as well as the depressingly underemployed, amounts to a Big Lie."

He goes on to say, "A good job is an individual's primary identity, their very self-worth, their dignity - its establishes the relationship they have with their friends, community and country. When we fail to deliver a good job that fits a citizen's talents, training and experience, we are failing the great American dream."

AB464 will further depress the job market in Nevada. It will contribute to more small businesses being pushed over the edge and going out of business thus further depressing the job market and increasing the misery and hopelessness of our unemployed and underemployed.

This is reality.  No additional government spending of our tax dollars for our failed education system will fix it. Systemic change is the only way to improve education like universal choice in education and that's not on the table.  No government spending of our tax dollars will take away the misery of people who will lose their jobs and businesses because of this huge $1.3 Billion Dollar tax increase.

My own husband is out of work right now. My daughter who has owned a small business in Reno since 2011 is constantly on the verge of going under...and the taxes are a major burden. She often works 16 hours a day. She told me the other day she just wanted to be able to get a regular paycheck every week. Last year during her slow time, I gave her money just to keep her telephone and lights from being shut off.

Do you truly care about the people of Nevada who are struggling day to day to survive...working as hard as they can? If you do care about these real people, Nevadans, then you must vote against AB464 which will not help children whose parents will lose their jobs, the failing education system or working or unemployed Nevadans. And, it will certainly further depress the job market and result in small businesses closing.
