Here’s a quick recap of the major political events of
the past week:
- Hillary Clinton can’t shake her email scandal. Still.
If Hillary
Clinton’s email troubles have led you to believe you somehow fell asleep
and woke up in the Clinton-Scandal-driven 1990’s, you’re
not alone. Though she made it clear last week at her press conference
that she believes her email humiliation should be put to rest, that’s
just
not how it’s playing out for the would-be Democratic Presidential
nominee. The House Select Committee on Benghazi, chaired by Rep. Trey
Gowdy, will summon Clinton to appear before May 1st to discuss her emails and the server, and the mainstream media just won’t
cooperate in killing the story. Compounding her troubles, Quinnipiac
released a new poll this week suggesting that the
email scandal has further weakened her support, especially in 3 key
swing states – Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Read more here: http://www.politico.com/story/2015/03/hillary-clinton-quinnipiac-poll-florida-ohio-pennsylvania-116539.html
- Conservatives are revolting against Jeb
Bush.
Conservative
activists in New Hampshire – a state where no Bush has won his first
attempt at winning its presidential primary – have a plan to undermine
Jeb Bush’s bid for the White House. The activists recognize the
potential for conservative candidates in the primary to split the
conservative vote and make it easier for an establishment candidate like
Jeb Bush to
win the nomination. To avoid that scenario, the activists are joining
together and have agreed to unify around a single candidate, whom they
will
choose during their own presidential caucus in October. Read the full

- Rubio will announce at Miami’s fabled
“Freedom Tower.” Or will he?
On Monday, April 13,
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) may or may
not launch his campaign for President at Miami’s legendary “Freedom
Tower,” often called “the Ellis Island of the South”
– it served for years as the home of the processing center that welcomed
Cuban exiles fleeing Castro’s Cuba. The Senator’s personal
history as the son of Cuban immigrants is a powerful part of his
political appeal, and choosing the Freedom Tower is a signal that his
biography will
play a large part in his campaign – IF that’s what he chooses to
announce. In media appearances to tease the announcement, he continued
to
play coy. Our bet is he’s running. TPPCF will continue tracking this
story and we will provide more information about this developing story
after the Senator’s announcement. The full story about Sen. Rubio’s
potential run is available here:
