A showdown is brewing on Capitol Hill over the Iran nuclear deal brokered by the Obama administration -- so far, without Senate oversight.
The President, no stranger to
sidestepping the U.S. Constitution or Congress, believes he has the
authority to make a binding agreement with a foreign government without
congressional approval. However, both Democrats and Republicans strongly
disagree and are demanding oversight before any such agreement is
finalized.
Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Bob Corker (R-TN) authored a bill that would require congressional oversight and a final vote of approval on any nuclear deals with Iran. The Associated Press says the bill would require that Obama "submit to Congress the text of a final agreement as well as evidence of Iran's compliance to the deal, and prohibit him from 'suspending, waiving, or otherwise reducing' congressional sanctions for 60 days."

Despite strong support from
both sides of the aisle, the President has said he would veto Corker's
proposed bill. "It is disappointing," said Corker, "that the President
feels he is the only one who speaks for the citizens of our country."

The Senate Foreign Relations committee will convene on April 14 to consider Corker's legislation. In the days leading up to that meeting, Liberty Counsel Action is urging Americans to fax Senators, demanding they closely scrutinize every aspect of the proposed deal -- including questions regarding Iran's statements about the destruction of Israel.
Just days ago, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he and his cabinet are united in "strongly opposing" a framework deal on curbing Iran's nuclear weapons.
Barack Obama's nuclear deal with Iran cannot be allowed to move forward unless the Senate is allowed to make sure the deal doesn't hurt U.S. interests. Lawmakers must also ensure the pact fully supports the preservation of Israel!
