The celebration and feast of Purim begins at sunset this March 5, 2015 - Adar 14th, 5775 ...

Purim is one of the most joyous holidays on the Jewish calendar. It commemorates a time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination through the wisdom and godliness of a beautiful woman called Esther. The book of Esther tells the story. At the time, the Jewish people were in exile in the land of Persia. Esther was a Jewish orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai, who raised her as if she were his daughter. The king of Persia, Xerxes, was looking for a new wife. Because Esther was very beautiful, she was taken to Xerxes to become part of his harem along with other pretty girls. After a year's training the girls were introduced to the king and he loved Esther more than any of the other girls. She became the new queen. During all this time Mordecai was in contact with Esther, giving her advice and instructions. Following Mordecai's instructions she did not reveal her Jewish origin.

The noun "cheer" in English Versions of the Bible is only found with adjective "good" (except 1 Esdras 9:54, "great cheer"), the word not having quite lost its earlier neutral character (any face expression, whether joyous or otherwise). In Old Testament, Tobh, is translated "cheer," "let thy heart cheer thee" (see GOOD); sameach, "to rejoice" is so translated in Deuteronomy 24:5, "shall cheer his wife" (the King James Version "cheer up his wife"), and Judges 9:13, "wine, which cheereth God ('elohim) and man." The phrase "of good cheer" occurs in Old Testament in Job 9:27 (the King James Version "comfort"); in Apocrypha, 1 Esdras 9:54; The Wisdom of Solomon 18:6; Baruch 4:5, 30; Sirach 18:32 the King James Version (the Revised Version (British and American) "luxury"); in New Testament for Greek euthumeo, euthumos, in Acts 27:22, 25, 36, and for tharseo in Matthew 9:2, 22. (the King James Version "comfort"); Matthew 14:27; Mark 6:50; Mark 10:49 (RV; "comfort" in the King James Version); John 16:33 Acts 23:11. "Cheer" as verb transitive occurs in Ecclesiastes 11:9 Deuteronomy 24:5 Judges 9:13. Cheerful occurs in Proverbs 15:13, 15 (the King James Version "merry"); Zechariah 8:19; Zechariah 9:17 the King James Version; Sirach 30:25; 2 Corinthians 9:7.
Cheerfully, Acts 24:10. - Cheerfulness, Romans 12:8.

Purim - The Book of Esther ...

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Esther+1-10&version=KJV

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them
diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou
walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Deuteronomy 6: 6-7 KJV

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou
dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Joshua 1:9 KJV

Concerning times and seasons, brothers, you have no need for anything to be written to you.
For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night.
- 1 Thessalonians, chapter 5

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation:
but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. - John 16:33

PURIM - BE of GOOD CHEER !!!

How Did Esther Became Queen?
by lector

Esther was able to become queen of King Xerxes because King Xerxes divorced Queen Vashti. King Vashti was advised by his advisors to divorce Queen Vashti because she refused to come before the king. King Xerxies wanted Queen Vashti to wear her crown and show off her beauty to the guests. Queen Vashti refused and this made King Xerxes angry. The advisor advised King Xerxes to divorce Queen Vashti with the excuse that the other women will learn her and refuse to respect their husbands if he let her continue to be queen. After Queen Vashti is deposed, a search is made throughout the entire kingdom for young woman suitable to be queen to King Xerxes.

Esther was recruited into the palace along with other young women. Esther was raised by his cousin Mordecai because she is an orphan. Esther’s Hebrew name was Hadassah. She got the favor of Hegai, the man placed in charge of the women in the harem. Each woman has to go through a beauty treatment that last for 1 year including 6 months with oil of myrrh and 6 months with perfumes and cosmetics. When it comes to a young woman’s turn, she would go to the king in the evening and return to another part under the care of Shaashgaz in the morning.

When it came to Esther’s turn in the month of Tebeth, the 10th month, she was taken to the king. The king was attracted to Esther more than other women and she was crowned as the queen. The king gave a great banquet and proclaimed a holiday in the entire kingdom on the day he crowned her as queen.

It is probable that God raised Esther to be queen to save the Jews from the hands of Haman. Haman later plotted to kill all the Jews in the kingdom by issuing a decree that the soldiers would come to attack them on the 13th of the 12th month, the month of Adar. Mordecai who became a palace guard later, sought Esther’s help. Esther at first refused to help but she agreed to go to the king for help afterwards. Esther refused to help at first because she was afraid she might be sentenced to death in the event that the king did not hold out his scepter. She invited the king and Haman to two banquets.

She only revealed her difficulty and ask for the king to save the jews in the second banquent. The king had Haman hanged on the pole he erected to hang Mordecai when he learned about Haman’s evil plan. He promoted Mordecai to the highest official in the kingdom. He gave Esther and Mordecai the permission to use his signet ring to issue whatever decree he want to save the Jews. Mordecai issued a decree that allow the Jews to defend themselves on the 12th of Adar. The Jews won a great victory and they commemorate the event through the celebration of the Purim festival.

God work all things for the good of his people. God knows what is going to happen ahead of time and he planned everything to happen at the right time. You must patiently wait for God to answer your prayer instead of fretting and being negative about it. Mordecai was obedient to God and he refused to bow down to Haman even if it risked his life. Obedience to God brings blessings. If you see someone in need, you must help him instead of being selfish and ignore him. We must love one another and always do our best to help others when we can. To love one another as much as we love ourselves sum up all the commandments of God in the bible. [...]

Purim Recipes
As the day that celebrates the salvation of the physical existence of the Jewish people, Purim is the most physical of the festivals. Its observances include giving gifts of money to the poor, sending food portions to friends, and eating a sumptuous meal accompanied by plentiful drink in the closing hours of the festival.

Hamantashen and kreplach, both with their fillings hidden inside, allude to the hidden nature of the Purim miracle. On a lighter note, the three-pointed hamantashen are said to evoke Haman’s three-pointed hat or his triangular ears. In addition to recipes for these two Purim traditions, we have included a number of recipes you can use for the Purim feast.

Purim is one of the most joyous holidays on the Jewish calendar.
It commemorates a time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination
through the wisdom and godliness of a beautiful woman called Esther.

Soon thereafter King Xerxes appointed Haman, an arrogant man, as his first advisor. Everyone bowed to Haman, but Mordecai refused. Haman was infuriated and plotted to kill not only Mordecai, but to exterminate all the Jews in Persia. He cast the pur (that is, the lot) and selected Adar 13th to carry out his plot. Haman told the king, "There is a certain people dispersed and scattered among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom whose customs are different from those of all other people and who do not obey the king's laws; it is not in the king's best interest to tolerate them. If it pleases the king, let a decree be issued to destroy them, and I will put ten thousand talents of silver into the royal treasury for the men who carry out this business." (Esther 3:8-9). The king gave permission to Haman to do as he pleased to them.

When the terrible decree was issued Mordecai asked Esther to speak to the king on behalf of the Jewish people. This was a dangerous thing for Esther to do, because anyone who approached the king without being summoned could be put to death, and she had not been called. Esther sent words to Mordecai and asked all the Jews to fast and pray for her for three days. She and her maids did the same. Then Esther went to see the king. The king welcomed her and asked what she wanted. She asked the king to make a banquet and invite Haman, who was much pleased with the queen's attention. During the banquet, the king again asked Esther what her request was. She asked the king and Haman to come again for another banquet the next day and she will reveal her request.

The next day during the banquet Esther revealed her Jewish origin and told the king about Haman's evil plot to kill her people. The king was furious and left the banquet room. Haman threw himself at the queen's feet pleading her to have mercy on him. When the king returned, he thought that Haman was attacking his queen, and ordered his death immediately. Haman was hanged on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. Thus the Jewish people of Persia was saved and their enemy punished. The 13th of Adar turned from grief and mourning to a day of victory. This event is celebrated by Jews as Purim holiday, on the 14th and 15th of Adar.
