DON’T GO WOBBLY, CONSERVATIVES!
In his first inaugural address, President Ronald Reagan said…
“As for the enemies of freedom, those who are potential adversaries,
they will be reminded that peace is the highest aspiration of the American
people. We will negotiate for it, sacrifice for it; we will not surrender for
it--now or ever.”
I mention that quote because in any protracted struggle, it’s
natural for some people to tire of the fight and seek peace at any and all
costs. Indeed, that’s exactly how Obama
lost Iraq.
And because of the protracted leadership fight between conservative
Assembly Majority Leader Michele Fiore
and moderate Assemblyman Paul Anderson
within the Republican Assembly Caucus, some conservatives – and I hate to say
this – reportedly may be prepared to abandon Fiore and surrender the fight for
the sake of peace.
To quote another great conservative, Margaret Thatcher, “This is no time to go wobbly.”
Conservatives should and do want peace within the Assembly
caucus with the moderates. And we should
be willing to negotiate for it, as long as the deal is a win-win for both sides. And we should be willing to sacrifice for it,
including putting up with a lot of hostile media reports by liberals who would
love to see the moderates win.
But conservatives shouldn’t surrender. They shouldn’t quit the fight. And they should no more abandon Fiore now
than they did Assemblyman Jim Wheeler
when he caused a media firestorm last year over his slavery comments that were
taken out of context and blown completely out of proportion by the media.
Indeed, this is no time for conservative members of the
Nevada Republican Assembly Caucus to go wobbly.
It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.
FIORE FURY NOT DYING DOWN
If Speaker-of-the-Weak John
Hambrick thought removing Fiore as Majority Leader and Taxation Committee
chair would end the divide in the caucus and unite the warring clans…well, he must’ve
been smoking crack.
Here’s the email that conservative freshman Assemblyman Brent Jones sent to Hambrick shortly after
Hambrick’s unilateral action was disclosed to both caucus members and the media…
“John, as we discussed earlier today, I am deeply disappointed in your
decision to unilaterally remove Michele as Majority Leader and as Chair of
Taxation. We voted as a caucus and these
issues were settled. Now we are back-peddling
once again and distracting from the required business to help move Nevada in a
positive direction.
“The people of Nevada overwhelmingly spoke in this last election
cycle. They are tired of the status quo
and are demanding fiscally conservative representation. The moderates actively campaigned against the
conservatives in both the primary and general elections and yet the people of
Nevada convincingly voted for the conservatives. I believed you to be one of the
conservatives.
“Now, you have taken it upon yourself to remove a Michele as Majority
Leader when we as a group voted her into that position. I strongly disagree with this action and I am
not certain that it is even proper under the procedural rules. You have also removed her from the Taxation
Committee.
“As a signer of the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, I cannot remain on the
Taxation Committee if you are inserting a chair who will most assuredly push
through proposed tax increases. It goes
against all that I represented to the people of Nevada during my campaign. I am going to remain true to my philosophical
beliefs and will NOT change course with mere threats by those who go against my
core beliefs. As a businessman who
actually creates jobs, I know that raising taxes is not the solution. Accordingly, if you are in fact moving
forward with these changes, I also wish to be removed from the taxation
committee.”
Wouldn’t it be better to just remove Hambrick as
Speaker-of-the-Weak?
DEAR JOHN: LETTERS TO HAMBRICK I
From Stephen (Steve) Dennis…
Mr. Hambrick,
If you truly “want my feedback so you can best represent me in the
legislature,” then here it is. Resign
your position. Now. Nothing has given you the authority to
single-handedly overturn a legitimate election to appoint whomever you wish to
positions in the Nevada legislature.
Your almost daily equivocating has shown every Nevadan with any common
sense whatsoever that you have no idea of how to lead anything. You should be ashamed of what you’ve already
done, and undone and redone.
The people of Nevada chose to elect conservatives to our
legislature. We did not choose
“moderates,” nor did we choose the handpicked candidates of the RINO Sandoval
and his cabal.
We made that choice, and we can undo it, as well. Recalls may be messy, but they are there for
us to choose when those we elect have lied to us about their positions during
the election cycle. It would be good for
you to remember that, before you find yourself on the outside looking in!
DEAR JOHN: LETTERS TO HAMBRICK II
From Carol Fineberg…
Assemblyman Hambrick,
Words cannot convey the extreme disappointment I have in your decision
to remove Michele Fiore as Caucus Leader and Chair of the Taxation Committee
and Victoria Seaman from the Taxation Committee.
Just under a year ago, you spoke to those of us on the Caribbean cruise
with the Mount Rose Republican Women.
You said several times that we need to elect "solidly
Conservative" people to serve in the State Legislature. So we handed you a
hard-fought victory of solid Conservatives and you just shoved them under the
bus.
I know you are being pressured by Governor BS and the RINO members of
the caucus, but you have shown yourself to be weak and not a leader with this
latest move. You have shown yourself
incapable of standing up to pressure by caving in to inappropriate
demands.
WE DO NOT WANT TAX INCREASES WITHOUT COMMENSURATE SPENDING CUTS. We,
the People, have spoken. That's why we elected Conservatives. That's why I
applauded your election as Speaker. You have betrayed that trust. You have further divided the Caucus. You have made the entire Republican Caucus
the laughing stock of the Democrats, who thought they might have a difficult
time in Carson this year getting their agenda passed. Unfortunately, with you
at the helm, that will be a walk in the park.
There will be a price to pay for your betrayal. At a very minimum, you
need to restore Michele Fiore as Caucus Leader and as Chair of the Taxation
Committee. She was duly elected by the
caucus. Who made you emperor to unilaterally unseat a duly elected leader,
especially one who worked to help you win as Speaker?
If you will not do that, then urge the Taxation Committee, led by the
still-wet-behind-the-ears-with-no-experience-whatsoever Derek Armstrong, and
the entire Caucus, led by the incompetent RINO Paul Anderson, to cut spending
in other areas to affect a zero net increase on Nevada taxpayers.
Or, you can step down and let the Speaker FIRST duly elected by the
caucus, Ira Hansen, lead this rag-tag band of bandits. Unlike you, Ira will be
able to stand up to the tax hikes Gov BS has in store for us, which is why, I
am convinced, he was ousted as well.
Or, you can just go along your merry way and wait for a true
Conservative to primary you in 2016.
I represent a group of 400+ Conservatives in northern NV. We are not happy with this latest move and we
are watching you.
DEAR JOHN: LETTERS TO HAMBRICK III
From Tom Tighe…
Hey Pretender,
Please resign. You have severely embarrassed the Republican Party in NV
by showing we have no integrity and all we can do is fight internally. You have proven you are not a leader, but a
follower who can't make a decision (or stick to a decision you have preciously
made). What are you afraid of?
You should not be in the most important leadership position in the
first NV Republican Majority in years. The Voters have spoken. We want
conservatives.
Not wishy-washy pretenders like you. You will only do harm, not good,
and definitely not the job constituents elected you for... lower taxes and
smaller government.
DEAR JOHN: LETTERS TO HAMBRICK IV
From Lee & Michele Mueller…
“Mr. Hambrick: With respect to
the current machinations and internal manipulation attendant to selecting the
Republican leadership of the new Nevada State Assembly we implore you to
rethink the influence and pressure being waged upon you by the mendacious
merchants of political sophistry who confuse their latent Socialist beliefs and
the manifestations of their egotistical personalities with the proper and
honorable function of decision making as legislators who were entrusted with
the power to implement the will of the Conservative and Libertarian electorate
that have so recently created a Republican majority. Please do not succumb to the disreputable
desires and agenda of those miscreants who seek to betray the fiscally
responsible intent of this most recent election. And if nothing else, be reminded that a coward
dies a thousand deaths, a hero, but one.”
COLLABORATOR CAUCUS UPDATE
I ran into Assemblyman Erv
Nelson at a fundraising event for conservative Assemblywoman Shelly Shelton hosted by former State
Sen. Sue Lowden last night. He assured me, in no uncertain terms, that he
will support for Speaker whomever is chosen by the Republican Assembly Caucus.
Why can’t the rest of these guys below be as direct and
forthcoming?
Glenn Trowbridge – ?
By the way, for those who still have their heads in the sand
(or where they can see their own pancreas) and don’t believe there have been
efforts to coordinate a “nuclear option” with Democrats, Assemblyman Nelson did
confirm to me, first hand, that he was approached to join such an effort, but
turned them down.
He didn’t say who approached him, and I didn’t ask. It’s enough to know such treachery has been
and probably continues to be afoot.
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
"I met (Assemblywoman John) Hambrick at the December
First Friday and asked him if he would work to end Common Core. His evasive
response was ‘Well, that would be a real battle.’ I didn't think of it at the time, but I
e-mailed him yesterday and told him you can't win a battle unless you get in
the fight. I knew after his response that he wasn't trustworthy....typical lying,
self-serving politician!! They might as well call themselves what they really
are.....DEMOCRATS!” - Rose Gilbert
