DING-DONG, RALSTON REPORTS IS DEAD!
Hot dang, Christmas came early!
What goes around finally came around. Jon
Ralston, Nevada’s #2 liberal blogger and #1 liberal on-air bloviator, shall
bloviate no more on TV.
Ralston Reports, the little-watched left-wing public affairs
show originating out of KSNV Channel 3 in Las Vegas, was cancelled today. The last show for the man who never met a
bridge he didn’t burn will be on December 12th.
Watch parties for the defrocked TV pundit’s last hurrah are
being organized as we speak.
The over-under for when Ralston will start trashing KSNV and
its new owners after his swan song has been set at 48 hours.
Hey, wouldn’t it be fun if “Ralston Reports” was replaced by
“Lowden Reports”?
DRIVE-BY MUTHINGS
Here’s what many journalists do: They dig up dirt on people
and publish it. Here’s what an Uber executive
reportedly suggested recently: Dig up dirt on journalists and publish it.
Journalists are having a COW over the suggestion! Go figure.

The Democrats have Hillary.
Republicans have, in no particular order, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Mitt Romney, Ben Carson, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie,
Scott Walker, Bobby Jindal, Mike Pence,
John Kasich, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry and Marco Rubio.
And we’re just gettin’ warmed up.
It’s gonna be a LOT more interesting to be a Republican than
a Democrat in 2016.

The leadership fight in the Nevada Republican Assembly
caucus appears to have firmed up for tomorrow night’s meeting.
After toying with the idea of withdrawing his resignation as
Speaker-designee, it appears that Assemblyman Ira Hansen is going to wisely just let it go and move on to bigger
and better things.
So with Ira out, on the mushy-moderate GOP establishment
side, Assemblyman Paul Anderson of
Las Vegas is running for Speaker-designee and has tapped lieutenant
governor-wannabe Assemblyman James
Oscarson of Pahrump as his Majority Leader running mate.
The Tax Men Cometh!
On the conservative side, it looks like Assemblyman John Ellison of Elko will run for
Speaker-designee with conservative firebrand Assemblywoman Michele Fiore running for Majority Leader. Though at press time there was still talk of
Assemblyman John Hambrick maybe
taking a run at the Speaker-designee slot, but I have no confirmation of that.

I know a lot of Republicans in Nevada who hope that the new
GOP legislative majorities in the state Assembly and Senate stay away from
hot-button social issues such as abortion.
But Laura Myers
of the Las Vegas Review-Journal
reported on Monday that there might be a move to resurrect Nevada’s parental
consent bill that would require a minor to get permission from at least one
parent or a judge before obtaining an abortion.
Melissa Clement,
preside to f Nevada Right to Life, notes that her 15-year-old daughter “can’t
have an aspirin at school without my knowing, but she can get an abortion.”
It’s a fair and legitimate point worthy of discussion and
debate.

A separate story in Monday’s RJ points out that despite an
infusion of $34 million in ADDITIONAL money from the feds, the vast majority of
51 low-performing government-run public schools in Nevada are STILL failures.
May as well have flushed that $34 million down the drain.
More money for education?
What a crock.

Love this quote from conservative Nevada State Sen. Don Gustavson in his latest
e-newsletter…
“Haphazard spending is a large reason why I as a State Senator continue
to honor the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, because I believe that giving
additional increases to inefficient bureaucracies does nothing to increase
better government efficiency. Instead it only promotes the capability to
squander more of your hard-earned tax dollars.
“Such as the $350,000 dispersed by the Clark County School Board to a
pair of consultants who were paid to assess board members' personality types as
blue, green, red or yellow. That's money that could have been better spent on
much talked-about needed items such as chairs and desks…”
Indeed. As Grover Norquist, the Father
of the Tax Pledge, constantly reminds us, raising taxes is what lazy politicians
do instead of the hard work needed to reform government.
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
"There have been 1,950 senators since the Constitution
was ratified, and none has done as much damage to the institution's
deliberative capacity as Harry Reid has done as majority leader. He has broken
its rules in order to rewrite its rules, and has bent its procedures, all in
the service of presidential preferences. He and his caucus exemplify how
progressives, confident that they know history's proper destination, are too
results-oriented to be interested in institutional conservation.” – Columnist
