DRIVE-BY MUTHINGS
--> Turnout is so bad for Democrats this election cycle that (a)
they had to bring in Bill Clinton to
try to rally the troops, (b) are bringing back Vice President Joe Biden to try to rally the troops,
(c) Republicans are all but assured of taking majority control of the state Senate,
and (d) are in position to even take control of the state Assembly.
If they don’t blow it.
--> Yet another Democrat candidate for state Assembly, Jesse “Jake” Holder in AD-10 in Clark
County, was ruled ineligible to run after District Court Judge Michael Villani ruled Holder failed to
satisfy the residency requirements.
Because of the lateness of the decision, Holder’s name will
still appear on the ballot; however, if signs are immediately posted warning
voters that he’s ineligible, Republican Shelly
Shelton – who I LOVE as a conservative! – could pull off a miraculous
upset in this largely Democrat district.
--> Fresh off the Tesla tax giga-giveaway, North Las Vegas Mayor
John Lee says if it’s good enough
for Tesla, it’s good enough for his city.
As such, Lee wants 800 acres of the Apex industrial park to be
designated as an “economic diversification district.”
If the Office of Economic Development grants his request,
businesses moving operations to Apex would get the same sweetheart deal Tesla
got, likely spurring development that thus far has lagged. Very creative, forward-thinking move on Lee’s
part. And after all, what’s good for the
Tesla goose should be good for the NLV gander.
2014 BALLOT PICKS UPDATE
After ruling today in favor of free-market competition by
allowing Uber drivers to continue driving in Las Vegas while awaiting a state hearing
to block Uber operations which is scheduled for November 14th,
District Court Judge Douglas Herndon
definitely earned my vote for Department 3.
Also, despite the fact that both Republican Cresent Hardy and IAP Russell Best are Tax Pledge signers, it
is no longer the case that neither has a chance to defeat incumbent Democrat
Rep. Steven Horsford. Indeed, turnout is so low for the D’s, and a number
of national organizations have now invested a ton of money on behalf of Hardy,
that Hardy actually has a realistic chance to win.
In the spirit of William
F. Buckley’s “vote for the most conservative candidate who can win,” the ONLY
vote for conservatives in CD4 now is Cresent Hardy. Not necessarily because he’s the most
conservative, but because he’s the most conservative candidate who can win.
On the other hand, I’m going to go completely against that
grain in the Assembly District 13 race by backing Democrat challenger Christine Kramar over incumbent
Republican Assemblyman Paul Anderson. Here’s why…
Anderson, in his first session as a legislator last year,
chalked up the single WORST voting record of ANY Republican in Carson
City…even worse that Assemblyman Lynn “Bug
Man” Stewart! Anderson was so wrong
on so many issues and so bad for Republicans in so many ways – including that
fact that he is GOP “establishment” all the way – that it hurts the Republican
brand to have him serving with an “R” next to his name.
Kramer, on the other hand, called me last week and we had
quite an interesting an in-depth conversation.
Did we agree on a lot of issues?
No. But I did learn that she led
the effort to get the Democrat Party to OPPOSE common core in its
platform this year, earning her the enmity of the party’s power-brokers,
especially Sen. Harry Reid.
She’s also at least open to a discussion on vouchers and
believes we’re not spending our education dollars properly. And she has been endorsed by the conservative
Libertarian Party and the conservative Independent American Party.
Unlike the Bolshevik left-wingers challenging some of the
other RINOs this year, Kramar appears to be a reasonable Democrat who clearly
isn’t afraid to buck her party’s leadership if she’s disagrees with them. How
refreshing! So even though I recognize
that it’s probably a futile gesture, and most of you will disagree with me, I’m
going with Christine in AD 13 this year.
I’ve also moved my pick in Family Court Department N to “undecided.”
