GAY MARRIAGE
This gay marriage question in Nevada is tough.
Fact is the ban on gay marriage was approved overwhelmingly
by a vote of the people, not once, but twice.
Now the will of the people has been overturned by judicial fiat, which
has determined that marriage is an inalienable right, right up there with life,
liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
As everyone knows, I have no problem with gay marriage. I mean, how does two gay guys getting married
hurt my marriage? It doesn’t. And there are plenty of absolutely horrible
heterosexual married couples who have no business whatsoever raising kids, so
that argument doesn’t fly. And I still believe
heterosexual divorce has done more harm to the institution of marriage than gay
marriages ever could.
That said, government policies extending certain special benefits
in our tax code to married couples is what has made marriage an equal
protection issue rather than a religious issue.
So the real cause of this unrest isn’t so much that gays are now being
allowed into the institution of marriage, but that government was allowed into
the institution of marriage.
An object lesson to be learned and avoided in the future…say,
in health care, for example?
IS ANY REPUBLICAN BETTER THAN ANY DEMOCRAT?
I almost missed this a couple weeks ago…
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Nevada State
Senate Minority Leader Moderate Mike
Roberson (RINO-Las Vegas) called his Democrat colleagues “incompetent” and
claimed they “have not got the job done.”
But it’s what he was talking about that should worry
conservatives, Republicans and taxpayers (oh, my!).
Roberson was complaining that the D’s “wouldn’t even ‘sit at
the table’ to discuss his proposal to raise taxes on the mining industry to
raise $600 million to help fund education and fix schools.”
As if taking $600 million from the private sector and
flushing it down the dark hole that is our government-run public schools would
actually fix our lousy education system.
Roberson – who lied to voters when he signed the Tax Pledge as
a candidate but then embraced two, huge $600 million-plus tax hikes last year -
is trying to wrest majority control from the D’s, who currently have an 11-10
advantage. But to do so he’ll have to run the table and win all three of the
seats in play – including his own.
And here’s his argument for putting him in charge…
“You’d be much better off with a Republican majority. The governor needs at least one house with his party to push forward his agenda. … I believe that the Republicans and the governor are the education party in the state.”
The governor’s agenda?
He doesn’t HAVE an agenda!
Oh, sure, he ran in 2010 on a conservative platform of no
tax hikes, spending cuts and school vouchers - but he’s done NONE of
those. Instead he’s raised taxes, jack
up spending, implemented ObamaCare, expanded Medicaid, and hasn’t even said the
word “vouchers,” let alone pursued them.
Oh, and he desperately wants to tax the Internet!
So does Roberson.
Look, if Gov. Sandoval needs Roberson and his gang of
moderate Gumby Republicans to advance THAT agenda, it’s hard to see how
we’d be worse off with the Democrats.
I’m telling y’all right now, there’s no way in Hades I’m
supporting Roberson in the general election. The only question is whether or
not I urge conservatives to simply boycott that race on their ballot…or just
come right out and support his Democrat opponent, Teresa Lowry.
Remember, it took Jimmy
Carter to prepare the electorate for Ronald
Reagan. Sometimes you need to take
one step back in order to take two steps forward.
The only thing worse than having a flaming liberal Democrat
in leadership…is a prevaricator pretending to be a conservative Republican in
leadership. I know some of you will
vehemently disagree with me on this one.
We’ll just have to agree to disagree…or you can unsubscribe if it really
bothers you that much.
I’ll understand.
DRIVE-BY MUTHINGS

Democrat congressional candidate Erin
Bilbray-without-the-Kohn writes, “It feels like just yesterday I filed
papers to run against Joe Heck for
Congress.”
Actually, no.
Considering how badly and embarrassingly Bilbray-without-the-Kohn’s
campaign has been run, it feels like it’s been an eternity.
