Bilbray-Kohn’s Best Week a Total Train Wreck
Democrat congressional candidate Erin Ryan-Leaf-Bilbray-Kohn* just had the best week of her campaign
thus far against incumbent Rep. Joe Heck
(R-Nevada) last week.
Which tells you just how bad a shape her campaign is in!
Instead of sacks of money, the Democrats sent in the Vice President
of the United States and the Chairbabe of the Democrat National Committee last
week – not for financial support, but moral support. And both appearances, by all appearances,
were monster duds.
DNC Chair Debbie
Wasserman Schultz blew into town and told Las Vegans they should vote for
Bilbray-Kohn, not because of her experience, not because of her
accomplishments, not because of her philosophical beliefs, not because of her
ideas to solve problems, but simply because…
She’s a woman.
High praise indeed.
And when a self-proclaimed liberal columnist (and fine judge
of good wine!) not only disses your campaign rhetoric, but outright
characterizes it as “nauseating,” you know it ain’t good. Get this from Las Vegas Review-Journal political scribe Steve Sebelius last Friday…
Regular Slashbackers will remember that I recently made fun of an Erin Bilbray campaign meme that centers on Eastern Avenue, a road that runs through the heart of the 3rd Congressional District as well as the heart of Bilbray’s stump speech. I figured it was a one-time dalliance with an overwrought metaphor, that she’d think better of it and move on.But no. Those Eastern Avenue values were back in Bilbray’s stump speech, which she gamely delivered at the Henderson Convention Center this week as Vice President Joe Biden looked on. Included was this classic: “Congressional District 3, your struggles are my struggles. Your heart is my heart. Your soul is my soul. And your families are my families.”And your rising nausea is my rising nausea? It’s not that Bilbray doesn’t have good material; when she got to the issues section of her remarks, she had plenty of facts and one-liners at her disposal. I mean, her closing lines were positively “Game of Thrones:”“I love this community and I will fight for this community. This is going to be a huge battle and I need every one of you,” she said. “They are going to throw so many arrows at me that they’re going to block out the sun. … This Nevada desert woman knows how to fight in the shade.”(One thing, however: They actually shoot the arrows, from a bow. They don’t throw them. If you’re throwing an arrow you’re doing it wrong. Unless it’s a spear, and then you’re doing it right. But that’s not important right now.)
When your campaign becomes the butt of ridicule, especially
at the hands of a kindred liberal spirit, you know you’re in deep doo-doo!
And then there were the Vice President’s remarks. As I noted last week, Mr. Biden seemingly
slammed the Bilbray-Kohn campaign when he was supposed to be helping it. Here’s Sebelius’ take along the same line…
“Biden had some awesome advice for Bilbray, and other candidates: You don’t need personal attacks or insinuations about motives in your campaign, you just need to say what they’re for and what you’re for. ‘Just state it,’ he said simply. And while he didn’t specifically say, ‘just state it without embellishments or rhetorical flourishes about major section-line roads that run through your town,’ that’s probably what he meant.”
Indeed, Bilbray-Kohn’s
campaign is perhaps best known for personally attacking Dr. Heck – an Army
doctor – as being “un-American” and ridiculously insinuating that Dr. Heck has
been waging a one-man war on women.
Why, if it wouldn’t be considered chauvinistic I think I’d
have to characterize the Democrat’s false and misleading campaign rhetoric as
nothing short of…shrill.
Personally, I think she should take Veep’s advice and simply
change her campaign stump speech to the following…
“I’m for abortion on demand, right up to the time of birth. And in the case of tea partiers, maybe even retroactively.”I’m not only for expanded gun control, but outright gun confiscation. Including water pistols!“I’m for opening the borders and granting full-blown amnesty, citizenship and a Democrat voter registration card to all illegal aliens in the country.“I’m for finishing what we started with ObamaCare by completely nationalizing our health care industry so that the experience of going to a doctor will have all the efficiency of the post office, the courtesy of the DMV and the compassion of the IRS.“I believe we should increase spending on every and any government program that undermines personal initiative and self-responsibility and fosters complete and total cradle-to-grave reliance on government.“And I believe we should tax the snot out of the rich to pay for it, with “rich” being defined as anyone making more than minimum wage, which, by the way, I believe should be $73 an hour.“My opponent disagrees.”
Then let the voters take it from there.

by many to have been the worst NFL draft pick in football history (San Diego
Chargers, 1998)
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
“Every democrat who really believes we are undertaxed and
that government spends money better than they do should send a check to the IRS
now.” – Grover Norquist, Americans for Tax Reform
