AMERICA ENERGY ALLIANCE - EPA REGULATIONS REGARDING COAL PLANTS 'USELESS!'

Dear Conservatives,
Remember back in January 2008, when presidential candidate Barack Obama pledged to bankrupt America’s coal industry?
He said, “if somebody wants to build a new coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them.”
And then he followed up by saying that by bankrupting coal electricity prices would “necessarily skyrocket.”
Well, with his direction, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has decided to make that promise a reality.

On June 2, 2014, the EPA released a new “climate rule” mandating 30% carbon dioxide emission cuts for existing power plants by 2020.
These emission cuts would make it virtually impossible for coal-fired power plants to operate.
And since coal is one of the most affordable sources of electricity generation, currently producing nearly 40% of all electricity in this country, you can just imagine the negative impacts this will have on your electric bill.
Even worse, according to the EPA’s own calculations, the rule will cost between $7.3 billion and $8.8 billion dollars, and they project national job losses between 72,000 and 77,900 in plant construction and mining. Yet, if history is a guide, these figures are likely to be much higher than the EPA’s projections.
They say that this is all necessary in order to protect our environment from carbon dioxide and the supposed threat of “climate change.”
But is that really true?
Our friends at the CATO Institute decided to calculate the projected climate benefits of the EPA’s new rule and found that there are no meaningful climate or temperature benefits.
In fact, they found that the temperature reduction from the proposed rule would only be a mere 0.018 degrees Centigrade by 2100.
So while Obama’s EPA continues to weaken our economy and kill jobs by restricting our access to affordable and reliable energy, there is absolutely no environmental benefit in doing so!
The truth is this is nothing more than a nod to Obama’s green special interests allies. By mandating a reduction in carbon dioxide, it will make it extremely difficult for coal plants to operate, leaving us no choice but to use inefficient, expensive, and unreliable energy such as wind and solar.
Unfortunately for you and me, these government actions will continue to raise the price of energy, devastate our economy, and severely harm the poorest Americans in our communities.
But it’s not too late to fight back. With your support, the American Energy Alliance is making sure that EPA regulations no longer go unchallenged. We are reaching out to millions of Americans with the truth, and ensuring our continued access to the affordable, abundant, and reliable energy that made this country great.
Sincerely,
Tom Pyle
President
