COMMON CORE - THE OBAMACARE OF EDUCATION

Dear Fellow Patriot,
Allen West recently labeled Common Core, “The Obamacare of Education.”
It’s true – Common Core is a dream come true for big government. Sadly, it’s nothing but a nightmare for schools, teachers, parents, and our students.
Rather than tailoring education to our children’s specific needs, Common Core creates a standardized national curriculum that is complex and irrelevant to the needs of both teachers and students.

Common Core also limits local control and decision-making. It takes education even further out of our communities and places it in the hands of unions and government.
Since the very beginning of this latest battle in education, I have listened to good citizens across our state and I've taken a stand in the Assembly against the dangers of Common Core.
But it’s not enough just to say “no” or voice opposition. We need leadership that will offer solutions and get things done. Like you, I stand in favor of localized control and educational choice here in California.
That’s why I’m excited to announce that I’ve taken the initiative to introduce a freedom-focused bill that would allow school districts across the state to opt out of Common Core.

The local districts that choose to be freed from these standards will simply follow the previous educational requirements already in place by the state. These districts will also be responsible for funding their own forms of testing to assure that our students’ progress and achievement is still being measured.
At the end of the day, Common Core puts the bureaucrats at the Department of Education in Washington, D.C. in charge of our students' education instead of teachers and parents.
This is unacceptable and frankly, un-American.
We really can make education reform a reality in California, but I need your help. Can I count on you to invest today to help change the balance of power at the Capitol in Sacramento? We simply cannot keep up the fight without your support.
Please join me as we continue to stand up for school choice, innovative education reform, and local choice. Common Core and its radical agenda is a threat to all of these.
Godspeed,
Assemblyman Tim Donnelly
