WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH)
took President Obama to task today for refusing to lead and work with
Congress on major issues affecting American families and our economy.
With Democrats on the sidelines, Boehner pledged that Republicans would
continue advancing better solutions to help the economy grow and to
protect all Americans from the president’s health care law. Following
are Boehner’s remarks:
“You know, back in 2012, the president chose politics over
governing. He took the year off, got little done, and this year I’m
beginning to see the same pattern of behavior.
“We see more and more that the president has no interest in
doing the big things that he got elected to do. His budget apparently
will make no effort to address the drivers of our debt and our
deficit. His Vice President told Democrats at their retreat that they
have no interest and won’t push for Trade Promotion Authority. The
president has said his focus is going to be going around Congress,
instead of working with it.
“So we’ve got two options. We can follow the president’s lead
and pack it in for the year, just wait for the election. Or we can
pursue our own vision and continue to present alternatives to the mess
that the president has brought us over the last five years. And that’s
exactly what we will do.
“We’ll lead, and our members will not shy away from advancing
better solutions for the American people. That’s why our Ways &
Means Chairman has commenced a discussion about how to reform our
broken tax code. That’s why our leaders have outlined a vision for how
we would tackle immigration reform. That’s why Chairman Ryan will
write a balanced budget that helps save our entitlement programs.
That’s why our members will offer an alternative when it comes to
ObamaCare.
“We’ve offered better solutions on jobs and job training,
education, and a host of other issues. While Democrats will stay on
the sidelines, we’ll continue to lead and offer better solutions for
the American people.” |
