BERLIN / WASHINGTON / DAMASCUS (Own report) - Nearly three years after the start of the revolt against Bashar al-Assad’s government, Germany's Syria policy is failing. Assad, whom the Federal government wanted to topple at any price, is still in power in Damascus. At the same time "moderate" rebel troops ("Free Syrian Army," FSA) supported by Germany and the other Western states, are dramatically losing influence, while Salafist militias, not ready for loyal cooperation with the West, have joined forces in a new alliance ("Islamic Front ") and have gotten the upper hand in different rebel areas. Some territories are dominated by the "Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant" (ISIS), which is attributed to Al Qaeda. Voices within the U.S. establishment are now saying it would be better to cooperate with Assad than to give the ISIS free rein. Observers deem the rise of Salafi militias to be a logical consequence of Western and German support for the armed insurgents.  Critics have been warning as early as 2012 of the currently prevailing situation.

[Here's something for you to ponder: If we 'won' in Iraq, as many GOP loyalists insist, how is it that Al Qaeda is concentrated there of all places? What did we win? Another question to ponder: RINOs like McCain are the only candidates the GOP seems capable of fielding for presidential elections. They are all gung-ho over supporting the Al Qaeda linked rebels. Ironically, it was a Democrat president in tandem with a Russian president, who kept us away from that debacle. Romney also expressed his intent to aid the 'rebels.' Would it really pay to vote GOP, unless they do an about-face on foreign policy?--Don]
