Majority Leader Harry Reid is threatening Republicans with having to
work through the Christmas break because they are using the allotted
time under the new Senate rules to oppose President Obama’s radical
nominations.
Reid
is demanding that they concede defeat and not even use what few ways
remain for the minority party to express its viewpoint!
++Reid’s “power grab” is unprecedented in the Senate.
Last
month, Harry Reid employed the “nuclear option” in the Senate to render
the minority party powerless to stop Obama’s nominees. Then Reid
arrogantly pressured the minority senators to pass all of Obama’s
nominees “en bloc.” That tactic failed.
Now,
he is threatening to force the Senate to work through the Christmas
break to get his agenda done for the year – unless the Republicans yield
the debate time on Obama’s nominees.
Majority
Leader Reid, who sets the Senate’s agenda, has his priorities badly
misaligned. He has placed the passage of Obama’s radical nominees as
the highest order of business – even above more important matters like
actually passing a budget and a defense bill!
Senate
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has responded to Reid’s tyranny,
rebuking Reid and the Democrats for their overt abuse of power and their
justification that the “ends justify the means.” Here’s an excerpt
from his address to the Senate yesterday…
“The
Obama Administration and its allies have done just about everything to
get what they want, one way or the other – even fundamentally altering
the contours of our democracy when they couldn’t get their way playing
by the rules.”
Today, Reid hopes to push through as many of Obama’s nominees as possible.
And,
today it’s not too late to tell our elected officials what we think of
Harry Reid’s tactics to shatter Senate rules and render the minority
party virtually powerless to stop the fundamental transformation of our
nation through radical judicial ideologues and bureaucrats.
This
is among the best opportunities we will have to make our voices known
on Obama’s extremist nominations during this crucial end-of-year
congressional session!
