1. Syria: A Romance
That did not take long. Less than a year ago, the Washington
press corps looked likely to divorce Barack Obama. He had rocked their
relationship with the Department of Justice probing Fox News’ James
Rosen, the Associated Press, and others. But like Gollum and the
precious, the Washington press corps has found separation too hard.
Syria has reconciled the President and Court. With his decision
to ask Congress to debate action in Syrian, the press corps is back to
defending their precious. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. Conservatives Should Oppose Syrian Intervention
In geopolitics as in medicine the first rule is do no harm. I am
at a loss to see where any conceivable military action stands to either
deter Assad from using chemical weapons in the future or reduces the
risk to innocent civilians in Syria. Doing something for the sake of
doing something only occasionally yields success. And, as far as I’ve
read, the limit of our strategy in Syria is to do something.
Philosophically, I believe in the use of military power and I
believe military force can be transformational, ask Japan and Germany. I
also believe that the ill considered use of military force makes us
look weak and stupid (any number of missile strikes by Bill Clinton, our
involvement in Somalia, etc.). . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. Words and War.
Over the last few weeks as the crisis in Syria has come to a
head, I’ve found myself in nonstop arguments about what, if anything, to
do. My own opinion started fairly emotionally. I saw dead kids, knew we
had bombs, and was fine with dropping bombs on the heads of the people
that killed the kids. However, I knew that was probably not a very well
thought out position given the complexities of the middle east and that
most of what goes on over there sails right over my head.
What I did know, was that throwing my hands up in the air at that
moment was unacceptable to me. From where I stood, we should be trying
to figure out if there’s anything we could do before declaring something
“none of our business” and walking away. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. Letting Allah Sort Out Islamic Civil War in Syria
As bankrupt as elected Republican leadership is in Washington
vis-à-vis domestic policy, they are completely clueless as it relates to
foreign policy. While
America continues to become an economic and moral wasteland under this
regime, Obama is attempting to spend American treasure helping one
nefarious side of an Islamic civil war in Syria – one which involves
Iran-allied supporters of Hezbollah (Assad regime) vs. predominantly
Al-Qaeda affiliated rebels. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
5. Barack Obama Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Staff
One of the more unseemly tendencies of the Obama administration
is the near non-stop efforts to convince the nation, and themselves,
that Obama is a tough guy. If ever a phrase will be used to describe
Obama’s regime it will be the one he used to Eric Cantor during budget
negotiations: “Don’t call my bluff.”
The stories purveyed by the administration’s propagandists range
from the unbelievable (Obama being intimately involved in the decision
to pot a few unlucky Somali pirates), to the macabre (the orgasmic
rhapsodizing on how he personally decides who get hit by a drone
attacks), to the banal (the whole “gutsy call” on Osama bin Ladin).
These parables of manliness are apparently believable to the rubes who
write for major publications because they result in hilariously
fellatory article, an article that would have been illegal in most
states before Lawrence v Texas, like this one in Esquire titled The
Lethal Presidency of Barack Obama. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
6. The Washington Post Endorses Pedophilia
It isn’t often that a major newspaper prints a call to legitimize
sexual predation and pedophilia but that is exactly what happened in
the Washington Post this week.
Taking as her starting point the widespread outrage over the
30-day, that’s right I said 30-day, sentence handed down to a Montana
high school teacher for raping a 14 year old student, the student later
committed suicide, former lawyer and erstwhile artist aspiring to be the
Thomas Kincaide of cats, Betsy Karasik (for fun check out her Twitter
feed @PaintsNature as she turns herself into a pretzel defending her op
ed) took to the pages of the Washington Post to snivel about the
injustice of it all . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
