RedState Briefing 08/16/2013

Morning Briefing
For August 16, 2013

1.  Focus
At the bottom of this post you will find a list of congressional town halls for the next week. It is important that you stay focused because Republican leaders are about to dangle shiny objects in front of you knowing that, like with a sardine dangling in the spotlight of a circus big tent, the GOP leaders can get you to clap like a seal.

Republican Leaders are preparing a series of shiny objects to distract you.

2.  Marco Rubio and the immigration surrender
Of all the arguments advanced in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens, perhaps the most outrageous came from Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) during a radio interview on Tuesday.  Outrage should not be exclusively directed at Rubio, because what he said is very possibly true.  And outrage should not be limited to the immigration issue, because what Rubio said will prove true of many other issues as well.  This is call-to-arms, fife-and-drum stuff.  The question is whether there are enough American patriots left to hear the music, and answer. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

3.  Liz Cheney calls on Enzi to return special ObamaCare subsidy
Yesterday, Republican Senate Candidate Liz Cheney called on Senator Mike Enzi to commit to return his taxpayer-funded ObamaCare subsidy to the U.S. Treasury and to convince his Senate colleagues to do so, as well.

Tuesday Cheney called on Senator Mike Enzi and other elected officials to renounce special treatment that they will now receive under ObamaCare. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

4.  Nate Cohn Misses a Few Key Details About Georgia’s Senate Race
I saw on twitter that Josh Krashaar linked to a new piece by Nate Cohn at the New Republic about Georgia being the best bet for Democrats to pick up a Senate seat.

There have been a number of these pieces lately. We get this sort of hype from partisans regularly. Many Democrats have been going through it about Texas. Remember the Senate guy who was going to be so awesome against Ted Cruz? Remember the guy who was going to beat Rick Perry in the last gubernatorial race? Hey, and let’s not forget about the Democrats holding Florida in the 2010 Senate race. This irrational exuberance happens. It happens to the GOP too. Did you hear the one about the GOP taking the Massachusetts Senate Seat?

Reality is settling in with Democrats about Texas, so they have moved to Georgia.  . . . please click here for the rest of the post

5.  Fast Food No More: How The SEIU & Union Front Groups Want To Occupy Your Big Mac
With union bosses once again clamoring that they are ‘in crisis,’ union bosses are looking to expand their membership into areas that have been traditionally immune to unions.

For the last several months, union-supported fast food workers have been staging “impromptu” strikes throughout the country. . . . please click here for the rest of the post
