Most of the e-mails we receive
in response to our articles are positive or complimentary. That is
largely due to the fact that we are generally speaking to the choir as it
were. Very seldom do we get negative responses but it does happen from
time to time.
Just recently, we published an
article entitled "Every Stupid Tom, Dick and Mary American Can
Vote." We did not share it with our regular reading audience
and it only appeared in one publication. The article was spawned by the
recent U. S. Supreme Court decision rescinding certain portions of the Voting
Rights Act of 1965. In the article we took up two questions and raised the
issue of illiteracy in certain segments of the population as it relates to
voting, primarily the Black segment. We listed several statistics
from credible sources to back up our assertions. The two questions
were:
1. Should there be
education and literacy tests for voters, covering the constitution and our
form of government, similar to the tests that are required of immigrants
who are seeking American Citizenship?
2. Should any American
citizen receiving any kind of government handout, be precluded from voting on any issue that could maintain or
increase the handout?
We gave sound, reasoned
arguments about each question and how important education is to those who
vote, including two quotes from Thomas Jefferson who advised America about the
importance of education to a free society. We only received one response
to the article and we have re-printed it below, albeit without some of the
more salty language. To give the responder a little more
credit, we cleaned up some of the punctuation and misspelled words. We
don't know where he is from, but at least he had the courage to include his
name. Most such responses are from that ghostly, mysterious character,
euphemisticlly named, Mr. Anonymous.
What is fascinating about the
response is its uncanny similarity to the Democrat talking points, like
"Bush and Cheney", the "Iraq War",
the "Koch Brothers", "fat
cats", "bible-thumping",
"Christians as the American Taliban" and the
general negative perception of Conservatives in general, but more specifically
the GOP. He and those on what we call the "Dark Side", actually
believe this "stuff." It also clearly indicates the
knee-jerk reaction by his side to all criticism, where they find it
necessary to resort to ad homonym personal attacks. The
gentlemen (and we use the term loosely)
writes:
"The
religious right is the American Taliban. Not violent like the Taliban, but
just as ignorant, stupid, backward fanatical and dangerous. Not
violent-YET! The GOP has been hijacked by a noxious bunch of abysmally
ignorant inbred hillbilly bible-thumping ignoramuses who are a grave threat to
freedom in America. We're not socialist, nor are we becoming socialist,
let alone Marxist, or communist under Obama. We're in danger of becoming a
total laissez-faire nation where the fat cats of business and industry get all
the wealth and the rest of us, the middle class and the poor are royally
screwed!"
"The democrats are giving us "free
stuff?" Bull ......! There are millions of lazy bums in America who don't
want to work and want the government to support them generously while taking
money from honest, hard-working people so they can loaf? You %$#@!*& idiot!
Millions of helpless Americans are out of work through no fault of their own and
can't find work! People on welfare can't find work. They're not
lazy. Poor blacks should be denied the right to vote? What kind of
racist b....... are you! It's the fault of the evil GOP which has created
horrible social and economic conditions in America, you brainless little
f.....! And you're blaming the poor blacks and other out of work
people?"
"George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are
evil criminals who have ruined the U.S. economy, caused the deaths of countless
people all over the world, put America in harms way by causing the totally
unconstitutional and catastrophic Iraq war and should rot in jail for the rest
of their miserable, worthless lives! The democrats are far from perfect, but
they're nowhere near as horrible as the GOP. You are more full of it than all
the sewers of the world combined, you miserable little a........! People
like you will be the destruction of America. The enemy is not Obama and
the democrats who are no more communist than the Pope is a Muslim. The
enemy are the evil, ruthless Koch brothers and other evil ruthless tycoons who
don't give a you-know-what if they ruin the U.S. economy and the environment as
long as they make trillions of dollars. They use the religious right as
useful idiots to make their ill-gained fortunes. I'm no Marxist or communist
or even a socialist. I'm just a social liberal who believes in gay
rights, is pro-choice, believes in separation of church and state, is concerned
about the environment and wants to see America become a prosperous, free, and
just nation."

We grant you that this is just one
person and does not necessarily represent the views of all Democrats, or
liberals. Nevertheless, we hear this diatribe daily from many public
venues, including Democrat politicians, academia, the left-leaning news media
and citizen Democrats themselves. This constant drubbing of the
same mindless propaganda, over and over again, can only have the
affect of re-enforcing the liberal ideology throughout the general population on
a grand scale.
The responder excoriates right-wing
violence without regard to the observable facts that the Tea Party groups and
events (Conservatives) were mostly peaceful, but
ignores that his side, (Liberals) as represented
through the national "Occupy Wall Street" events, were
unruly, debase, loud and purposely violent. He talks of freedom
without any concept of the word. He speaks of a "prosperous,
free and just nation" when there is no way it can be free and
prosperous, or just, under the iron grip of a highly regulated, top-down
government that he and other liberals have instituted in America. But
since that is what he hears all day long from the left and the media, is it any
wonder that he believes this way? He is already pre-disposed to believe in
the rhetoric anyway, without regard to any of its validity.
We bring this to our reader's attention, not
because the above responder represents the "Potty
Mouth of the Dark Side", but more to show what conservatives are
up against; a blind, illiterate, unreasoning mindset in the general population,
resulting from years of endless propaganda, that bears the name
Democrat, liberal or progressive.
In the article to which our gentleman responded,
we asked the following questions, keeping in mind Thomas Jefferson's
admonition about having an educated, literate society:
"How do we educate a significant segment of the
American population to the point where they can vote intelligently and for the
right reasons, if their only reason for voting is to see how much they can
"take" from government? If this is their only basis for casting their
vote, why would they care about individual freedom and
liberty?"
We answered the two questions in the article
with: "..... the truth is, a nation is only as strong as its weakest link. If it
grows weaker through ignorance and raw greed and loses its individual pride of
achievement, self-reliance, independence and individual responsibility, a
nation's future is pre-ordained. It will fail. If the general voting
population only cares about what it can get for free, America is doomed as
a free nation. In such event the con man spouting eloquent
oratory (think government) will convince you that all of your troubles will
be swept away if you will just buy his sweet-tasting elixir that promises
miracles beyond your wildest dreams. As the mentally challenged Forest
Gump said, 'stupid is, as stupid
does.'"
It is abundantly evident, as we state
in the article, that the one-man, one-vote principle only works to
maintain freedom and economic prosperity, IF and only IF a super majority
of the voting population is sufficiently schooled in the language and
history of the country, math and the general sciences, literature and
geography, all wrapped up in an envelope of the foundation of
freedom.
Unfortunately ladies and gentlemen, the above
responder does not represent what is needed in the general population to
maintain freedom, liberty and sovereignty of the great, but now failing,
American experiment, as Jefferson admonished.
