WILD HORSE PRESERVATION 06/24/2013

Dear Las Vegas Residents,

Las Vegas area residents are needed to attend public meetings being held this week by the U.S. Forest Service (FS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) regarding the wild horses and burros of the Spring Mountains Wild Horse and Burro Complex, which includes nearly 800,000 acres of federal land in Clark and Nye Counties.
The meetings are the beginning of a process that will establish federal policy for the next 10 years affecting wild horses and burros in the Red Rock, Spring Mountains, Wheeler Pass and Johnnie management areas.
What: BLM/FS Public Scoping Meetings for Management of Wild Horses and Burros in Southern Nevada
When:  6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on June 25, 26, and 27
Where: Pahrump (Bob Rudd Center) - June 25
Good Springs (Good Springs Community Center - June 26
Cold Creek (Volunteer Fire Station) - June 27
Your voice is urgently needed to speak up for the few remaining wild horses and burros in this area and against the federal plan to:
►Reduce the allowable number of wild horses and burros in these areas
►Remove as many as 523 wild horses and 301 burros from their homes on our public lands in southern Nevada.
Click HERE for talking points and more information.
The proposal contained in the scoping notice merely continues the BLM's business as usual approach to wild horse and burro management, which the National Academy of Sciences recently found to be "expensive and unproductive."
With the weight of this independent scientific review our side, and with more horses in government holding facilities than remain free on the range, NOW is the time to use our collective voices to demand change for our iconic wild horses and burros. Please, if you can, attend these meetings to speak up for them this week!
Many thanks, as always!
