Morning Briefing
For April 16, 2013
1. Prayers and Boston
We do not know who did it. We will have time to be angry at the person or persons who placed bombs in Boston, turned happy memories to tragedy, and took lives all for some cause about which we as of yet know nothing.
We can speculate. We can call it terrorism. But for now we really do not know who or why or even how, just the what and the where. As partisan sides go, both sides will try to find some ground on which to score political points. That is what partisans do these days. It does not matter whether it is right or wrong. It happens. Some on the left rushed out of the gate to blame supposed right wing extremists. It was, after all, tax day. The right went straight to muslim extremists.
But we do not know who did it yet or why.
What we do know is that the President, when he first addressed it, did not call it “terrorism,” as if he must offer up the word as some salve or recognition for horror and terror. It is clear from the look on his face he knows the horror. He knows the terror. The word has become a shibboleth for some. At times like this though, does it really matter? It was a horrifying, monstrous act of terrorism whether the word is used or not.
Multiple bombs, multiple dead, many wounded, that is the reality we are all confronted with regardless of party or politics. Today, pray for Boston. Pray for the victims, their loved ones, and the first responders.
Pray also for the President of the United States and his team of advisors who must now find out who did this and take action.
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NIV) . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. Mother Jones’ Corn Admits Dems Knew About McConnell Tape
I previously wrote in PolicyMic that the McConnell bugging story could’ve been a coordinated “hit” by the institutional left. Both Mother Jones and CREW (Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington), who filed an ethics complaint against McConnell over this development, attended the same conference of progressive organizations last December that specifically targeted the Kentucky Senator for the 2014 elections. It was called the Democracy Initiative.
Last Tuesday, we had this absurd bugging story, the release of PPP’s polling on the race, and Senate Majority PAC launching their anti-McConnell microsite. It should also be noted the CREW’s co-founder, Norm Eisen, is Obama’s “ethics czar.”
Now, David Corn, who released a recording of a McConnell strategy meeting, has said that Kentucky Democrats knew about the recording, and begged him not to release it. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. Every day is Tax Day
It has been said that if elections were held right after Tax Day, we wouldn’t be in this economy-crushing fiscal mess.
But is that really true any more? Half of us aren’t paying any taxes on April 15. Many Americans receive a tax refund, which they understandably but mistakenly view as a “gift” from the government – a bag of coins tossed from Uncle Sam’s sedan chair to the cheering peasants as he passes among them. People grow positively ecstatic about their tax refunds, which they generally claim long before April 15. Some of them borrow money against the anticipated refund amounts. Retail outlets plan advertising campaigns around the appearance of those magical government checks in our mailboxes. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
