FIRST FRIDAY HAPPY HOUR THIS WEEK!
New year, new location, new co-sponsor…and a special guest host!
First, the new venue for February’s First Friday Happy Hour will be the very nice Dal Toro Ristorante in the Palazzo Hotel on the Strip. We’ll have our own separate bar in the showroom leading to the exotic car collection downstairs.
Don’t let the Strip location throw you off. Just enter the Palazzo parking garage off Spring Mountain. Grab the right elevator and it’ll take you right to the Dal Toro entrance.
Our new co-sponsor - joining Citizen Outreach and KDWN 720 AM - for this “conservative/libertarian” get-together is, appropriately enough, the new-and-improvedLibertarian Party of Nevada.
The LP’s Brett Pojunis is taking over most of the management of the event this year and will soon update/upgrade the website, social media, etc.
And this month’s special “Guest Co-host” will be Daryll Ann Carter-Sulliman and theSouthern Hills Republican Women’s Club of Henderson!
Of course, Alan Stock of KDWN will be there to officiate the program…though I might have to miss this month in favor of taking my six-year-old son on his first Cub Scout camping trip up at the Valley of Fire – where, I’ve been informed, NO ALCOHOL will be allowed!
As you can imaging, I’m having very mixed feelings about my priorities on this one - but in the end, I’m pretty sure you’ll understand if family comes first. If so, have a drink for me in my absence!
GUN GRABBER BEN
State Sen. Ben Kieckhefer intends to introduce legislation to restrict gun rights forsuspected mentally ill people “as soon as there is a legal petition to commit them.” In other words, guilty upon accusation, not conviction.
In a Las Vegas Review-Journal story on Kieckhefer’s proposal, the moderate-to-liberal Republican reportedly consulted with “law enforcement officials, the courts, the attorney general’s office, mental health professionals, the Nevada Health and Human Services Department and with Gov. Brian Sandoval.”
Conspicuous by its absence from that list of consultations: The National Rifle Association.
Interesting that a Republican state senator would propose a new gun control measure without bothering to pick up the phone and discuss it with the nation’s leading gun rights organization – or ANY gun rights organization, for that matter.
Kieckhefer’s proposal might or might not have some merit – though liberal former State Sen.Sheila Leslie, a bird of Kieckhefer’s feather, doesn’t think so.
But the mere fact that Kieckhefer opted to flip the NRA the bird before announcing his proposal leads this conservative to think it probably should be DOA for anyone interested in preserving their Second Amendment rights!
THE RETURN OF SILVER STATE CONFIDENTIAL?
Thank you for all of your emails, kind words and inquiries about the fate of Silver State Confidential.
Truth is, between my work on the Mt. Reagan Project and for a national Super PAC I started with last month, there just hasn’t been enough time in the day to write it. And yes, I am suffering some mild symptoms of withdrawal!
That said, the official Mt. Reagan proposal will be submitted next week – on Reagan’s birthday – which is the same week as the start of the new legislative session, where conservatives are likely gonna get the snot beat out them again…and again and the hands Republican “leaders.”
So I’m mulling starting up Silver State Confidential again, but only on a month-to-month basis during the session since that’s where a lot of damage is going to be done if we’re not vigilant.
If I do, it’ll probably cost in the $15 to $20 per month range for the four or five months…and worth every penny since you’ll continue to get conservative news and views “you won’t find anywhere else” (hat tip to RalstonReports).
But I really haven’t made up my mind yet. Will keep you posted.
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
