Dear Friend,
I pray you never know the horror - the terror - of being raped.
But tragically, multitudes of women do.
I'm emailing you today to ask for your compassionate response to 400,000 rape victims across this country … because they have suffered even more than the nightmare of rape.
These women have already survived the appalling act itself. They have already summoned the courage to report the crime. They have already suffered the humiliation of "evidence collection" at a hospital - an invasive medical exam that takes hours to complete.
The result: a "rape kit" - a terrible term - a collection of crucial evidence which authorities can test and then use to track, catch, and prosecute the rapist.
But today I'm asking for your help because 400,000 rape kits are LOCKED AWAY - never tested. And the clock is ticking toward the statute of limitations, the day when the law declares that a crime happened too long ago to be prosecuted.
Why are 400,000 rape victims being re-victimized in this way? Because Congress has not released the funds to process the evidence. Because - in spite of record numbers of women now serving in Congress - raped women don't have enough clout on Capitol Hill.
CWA is absolutely committed to justice for women. There are bills in the House and Senate that could solve this outrageous problem - and let 400,000 women finally receive justice. With your strong support today, we will keep the pressure on - until we win. It's the right thing to do.
Please give generously online right now. They need us. We need you. Thank you in advance. God bless you.
Sincerely,
Penny Nance Chief Executive Officer and President Concerned Women for America |
P.S. This is not about being a "Republican" or "Democrat" - this is about assisting victimized women: mothers, sisters, wives, and students who have been mercilessly attacked ... and are now being denied justice because of bureaucratic backlogs. We've got to get Congress to act. We need the Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Reporting Act to pass. Your online gift today will help CWA push for this to happen quickly. Thank you again!
