Democrats are preparing to SNEAK Through a Dangerous New UN Treaty NEXT MONTH -- Select Here to DEMAND Congress REJECT the UN CRPD Treaty!
ALERT: We recently had a very close call in Congress, when ultra-liberal Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) tried to SNEAK THROUGH a dangerous U.N. treaty that would STEAL U.S. sovereignty, USURP parental authority, and ENFORCE "abortion rights" in America... and around the world...
We were able to STOP the Pro-U.N. liberals this time -- but they're coming back to try again NEXT MONTH!YOU AND I MUST MAKE SURE THEY FAIL AGAIN!

As we reported to you before, at a recent lobbying tour of conservative activists in Washington, D.C., in nearly every office visited, volunteers were informed that this dangerous treaty -- the "Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" (CRPD) -- was not a priority for the Senate at this time, and would not be brought to the floor. BUT -- the day after they were told that, ultra-liberal Sens. Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) attempted to bring the treaty to the floor under a "unanimous consent agreement." IT ALMOST WORKED -- they would have likely succeeded, were it not for the firm opposition of Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT)!
But while we were able to win that battle thanks to the opposition of Sen. Lee and other patriots, THE WAR IS NOT OVER this year! While Congress is now in recess until after the elections (in two weeks!), and it has not ratified the dangerous CRPD treaty, there IS a HUGE risk of its passage during the "lame duck" session in November. ("Lame duck" refers to a legislature made up in part of lawmakers who have already been voted out of office - the "lame ducks.")
But as our friends at ParentalRights.org have noted, thanks to the efforts of patriots like YOU, we CAN still win this war:
"In his opposition to the motion for a UC adoption of the CRPD, Senator Lee announced the following:
'I have right here a letter that is signed by 36 members of this body... a letter addressed to Leader McConnell and Leader Reid explaining that for various reasons, we don't think that any treaty should come up for ratification during the lame-duck period of the 112th Congress... We will oppose efforts to consider any treaty during this time period. The primary reason cited in the letter is the fact that it is very important to make sure that we have a full understanding of what these treaties mean.'
Since a treaty must be ratified by two-thirds of the senators present, having thirty-six opposed (two more than the 34 senators needed to defeat the treaty) will make it extremely hard for the Senate to act on the CRPD, the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), or any other U.N. treaty until the new Congress is seated in January."
BUT, as they also state, "we must remain vigilant." If proponents of the CRPD treaty were willing to attempt a "sneak attack" this month, it is VERY likely that they're also willing to try to "peel off" some of the supporters of this letter or tosneak in a vote while enough of these are out of the room to let the vote pass. AND AS WE'VE SEEN -- THEY AREWILLING TO DO THAT!
We CANNOT let that happen. THE CRPD TREATY STEALS OUR SOVEREIGNTY AND PUTS US UNDER UN CONTROL -- WE MUST STOP IT!

So the GOOD NEWS is -- YOUR EFFORTS against the United Nations ARE STARTING TO WORK! But we CANNOT STOP NOW!
Americans are beginning to WAKE UP to the dangerous new U.N. "CRPD" Treaty -- and Congress is starting to LISTEN.
Just take a look at this Letter to the Editor, published this week in the Times-Virginian newspaper:
"This treaty, if ratified, would effectively put us under international law when it comes to parenting our special needs children. It concerns me that while this treaty may on the surface appear to protect those with disabilities, it actually gives the government the power, with direction from the U.N., to decide what is best for our children. That is wrong and not something we should see in the United States of America."
The letter-writer, William McGrath of Appomattox, is exactly right -- but unless we're able to FORCE Congress to vote NO on this treaty, the UN will have discretion over decisions about how we educate our kids, instead of parents!
Deceit and treachery are nothing new for the United Nations and the Obama regime -- in only 42 months in office, President Barack Hussein Obama has submitted eleven international treaties to the Senate for ratification. This time, he's trying to "fast-track" the United Nations "Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" (CRPD), trying to force a vote just a couple of months after he submitted the treaty for approval.
Just last month, a panel of experts warned U.S. lawmakers on the House Sovereignty Caucus that the UN Disabilities treaty could threaten the rights of parents and advance abortion rights.
The United Nations CRPD treaty doesn't just steal U.S. sovereignty in one area -- it does it in multiple areas!
But what IS this "CRPD" treaty?
IT'S VERY SIMPLE: As the Washington Times recently editorialized, "The CRPD is an invitation to join U.N. internationalists on the slippery slope away from sovereignty... Senators shouldn't have to be warned that Americans don't take kindly to government busybodies insinuating themselves between parents and their children... Americans don't need advice from the U.N. on how to protect the rights of the disabled."
Supporters of this treaty claim that it will "guarantee the civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights of the disabled" in America and other countries. But the fact is, as the Heritage Foundation notes, "the rights of Americans with disabilities are well protected under existing law and are enforced by a wide range of state and federal agencies. Joining the convention merely opens the door for foreign 'experts' to interfere in U.S. policymaking in violation of the principles of U.S. sovereignty."
And BOY, does this treaty violate our sovereignty!
- Unelected "experts" will get to rule on whether the U.S. is in "compliance" with the demands of the United Nations.
Under the U.S. Constitution, after ratification, treaties become part of the "supreme law" of the United States on a par with federal statutes. As Eagle Forum's Phyllis Schlafly reminds us, "that gives supremacist judges the power to invent their own interpretations, which some are all too eager to do." The treaty's Article 4(1)(a) demands that all American law on this subject be conformed to the standards of the UN. As with other human rights treaties, the CRPD established a treaty body composed of unelected "experts" -- the "Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" -- that evaluates the compliance of state parties to the treaty every four years and issues recommendations for how they might improve in fulfilling their obligations. The Heritage Foundations reports, "too often these U.N. treaty bodies seek to broaden the scope of the treaties that created them, redefining terms and expanding language that had been painstakingly negotiated by the U.N. member states that initially signed onto them -- and blatantly disregarding national sovereignty."
The CRPD's Article 4(1)(e) also demands that "every person, organization, or private enterprise" must eliminate discrimination on the basis of disability. The Washington Times reports that, "taken literally, which some lawyers are sure to do, every homeowner might be required to install wheelchair ramps or even elevators in their homes, regardless of the cost. This also means that the legal standard for the number of handicapped spaces required for parking at your local stores or houses of worship would be established by the U.N. Such issues should be decided at the local or state level, not by a committee of unelected international bureaucrats." - The United Nations can declare that abortion is now a "human right" and force every country, including the United States, to legalize abortion at every stage of pregnancy -- even if Roe v. Wade is eventually overturned.
In spite of specific statements made by CRPD signatories that the inclusion of the phrase "sexual and reproductive health" is not intended to include abortion, U.N. officials and other abortion advocates have pointed to the CRPD to further build their case in favor of abortion as a "human right". Specifically, Article 25 of the Convention requires States Parties to: "[p]rovide persons with disabilities with the same range, quality, and standard of free or affordable health care and programs as provided to other persons, including in the area of sexual and reproductive health and population-based public health programmes." At UNFPA and CRR briefingswith UN treaty committees, the agenda listed "denial of reproductive healthcare services, including abortion" among "reproductive rights violations." - Parental rights are usurped by United Nations authorities and unelected bureaucrats.
The HSLDA's Michael Farris reports that this UN treaty's Article 7(2) "advances the identical standard for the control of children with disabilities as is contained in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This means that the government -- acting under UN directives -- gets to determine for all children with disabilities what thegovernment thinks is best. Additionally, under current American law, federal law requires public schools tooffer special assistance to children with disabilities. However, no parent is required to accept such assistance. Under this section the government -- and NOT the parent -- would have the ultimate authorityto determine if a child with special needs will be homeschooled, attend a private school, or be required to accept the program offered by the public school."
Article 25 on Education does not repeat the parental rights rules of earlier human rights treaties such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights or the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights. This is an important omission. Coupling this omission with the direct declaration of "the best interest of the child" standard in Article 7(2), this convention is nothing less than the complete eradication of parental rights for the education of children with disabilities.

Thankfully, U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) is rallying opposition to the CRPD in the Senate. "The Obama administration is trying to move forward with numerous treaties," DeMint said. "They include one that... empowers government agents to make decisions on children with disabilities instead of parents." DeMint spokesman Wesley Denton told The Hill, "Part of this treaty deals with abortion and the rights of children, issues that should be addressed by states, local governments and American parents, not international bureaucrats. Sen. DeMint strongly opposes this treaty, as the United States is already the world leader in addressing the needs of the disabled and it's foolish to think Americans need to sign away our sovereignty to exert our influence around the world."
HOWEVER, several RINO Senators, including John McCain (R-AZ) and John Barrasso (R-WY), have been trying to convince everyone that this dangerous UN treaty "would merely apply U.S. standards to the rest of the world and protect Americans with disabilities abroad." Thanks to LIES like those, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted to approvethis treaty, and liberals tried to sneak through floor action by the entire Senate. THAT MEANS WE HAVE TO TAKE ACTION NOW! If we can FLOOD Congressional offices, demanding that they REJECT the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), we CAN put a stop to Barack Hussein Obama's attempt to hand over American sovereignty to the United Nations. But we need YOUR help. Send your Blast Faxes to every single Member of Congress NOW!
Sincerely,
William Greene, President

P.S. Sen. DeMint recently stated, "Our founders warned us not to get entangled with foreign governments withunnecessary treaties. We don't need to go beyond our Constitution and federalist system by allowing our fundamental rights to be dictated by unaccountable and unelected international bureaucrats."
BUT THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THIS TREATY WOULD DO. As the Heritage Foundation reports, "ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) would not advance U.S. national interests either at home or abroad. Moreover, joining the Disabilities Convention would obligate the federal government to defer to an unaccountable committee of academics and 'disability experts' in Switzerland in violation of the principles of U.S. sovereignty and federalism. The United States need not become party to the convention to demonstrate its strong commitment to disability rights, because existing U.S. law and a multitude of federal agencies already protect Americanswith disabilities against discrimination."
The rights of Americans with disabilities are already protected under a number of federal laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1990, and the Fair Housing Act as amended in 1988. Any modification or expansion of such protections can and ought to be achieved through the legislative process -- NOT through ratification of a United Nations treaty that is really just another step towards global government!
YOU AND I need to FORCE Congress to STOP this sovereignty-stealing treaty! TAKE ACTION NOW!
