HORSFORD (AGAIN) PLAYS THE RACE CARD

Democrat congressional candidate Steven Horsford (D-Affirmative Action) is having a cow over a remark - obviously made tongue in cheek - by GOP opponentDanny Tarkanian that maybe he “could be like Steven Horsford, who's not doing anything with (the black) community, and you know, pretend we're black and maybe try to get some votes if that's where
a it is."

The race-baiters are, pred
ictably, yelping that the remark was “racially insensitive.”

Oh, puh-lease.

Tarkanian clearly wasn’t saying that Horsford was pretending to be black, as Eric Kleefeld of Talking Points Memo foolishly alleges in his blog today.

No, Tark’s point was that Horsford…

POLITICAL POTPOURRI

* Anyone still not sure why so many people supported Newt Gingrich in the GOP prez primary earlier this year should just take a look at this video clip of him nuking CNN anchor Piers Morgan.  (“You guys almost sound like you're an extension of the Obama campaign.”)

* In the battle between R&R Partners (Romney/Ryan) and The Boo Brothers (Obama/Biden), the choice appears to be either “ending Medicare as we know it” or sit by and watch it die.  R&R Partners want to change Medicare to fix it.  The Boo Bros. want to use “Medi-Scare” as a political weapon to get re-elected, even if it means letting the program die a slow, painful death.

* Well, here’s a shocker.  The Associated Press reports that “U.S. taxpayers will lose $3.3 billion more on the auto industry bailout than the government predicted two months ago, hurt by General Motors’ falling stock price.”  GM, as you may recall, was for all intents and purposes handed over to organized labor to own and operate.  Who would have ever guessed they’d run it into the ground?

* The government’s Nevada Taxicab Authority on Monday refused to issue additional temporary permits so that more taxis could be on the street to handle the expected 80,000 convention-goers who will be in Las Vegas for the MAGIC show next week.  Existing unionized taxi drivers don’t want the competition, no matter how inconvenient that might make it for visitors; the life-blood of the state’s economy.

* Hmm, the LV Sun reports that the firefighters union in North Las Vegas publicly disclosed personal patient medical information in an effort to discredit the private ambulance service it competes with. And yet another black eye for public servants the public used to revere and respect.  Talk about stuck on stupid.

* Assemblyman Harvey Mumford has a bill that would use tax dollars to provide health insurance for boxers and intends to name the legislation in honor of the late former heavyweight champ Michael Dokes who, the LVRJ reports, had been arrested three times on drug charges, including two for cocaine possession in Las Vegas.  He was also arrested in 1998 on charges of “attempted murder, kidnapping and intent to commit sexual assault.”  Is this really someone to honor, even for a bill misusing tax dollars?

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“Though best known as an architect of conservative fiscal policy, Representative Paul D. Ryan has also been an ardent, unwavering foe of abortion rights, has tried to cut off federal money for family planning, has opposed same-sex marriage and has championed the rights of gun owners.” – New York Times

“Mitt Romney’s veep choice is sending the message to the American electorate that he won’t be moving to the middle after all.” – National Journal

“To this point, the tea party has only reluctantly backed Romney. But Romney’s selection of Ryan marked a huge victory for the tea party, and may quiet those critical of Romney's more moderate positions.” – Associated Press
