POLITICAL DIGEST 04/20/2012 CONSERVATIVE

I will be on the road for nine days, with limited computer time if any, so the Digest may be scares until May 1. I’ll leave a few things to post if BlogSpot doesn’t hiccup, as it does some timers, failing to post. ~Bob.

Charities I support

Hope & Change: Unemployment-aid requests at 4-month high: Jobless claims reverse course in April
Excerpt: The number of Americans who filed requests for unemployment insurance last week hovered near a four-month high, defying expectations that applications would begin to recede after a recent spike. Weekly jobless claims totaled 386,000, seasonally adjusted, in the week ended April 14, the U.S. Labor Department reported Thursday. (Watch for Obama to ask Congress for millions of dollars to fight speculators who are manipulating the job market. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: The gunman behind the Norway massacres said he was inspired by al-Qaida as he took the stand Tuesday at his trial, after a judge who called for him to face the death penalty was dismissed. Rightwing extremist Anders Behring Breivik said his attacks last year were aimed at defending "ethnic Norwegians" from rising multiculturalism, and that he "would have done it again." Insisting "universal human rights" gave him the mandate to carry out his acts, he described himself as a "militant nationalist" and, using the pronoun 'we' to suggest he was part of a larger group, added: "We have drawn from al-Qaida and militant Islamists."

U.S. condemns photos of soldiers posing with body parts of Afghan jihadists
Excerpt: Remember the explanation the New York Times gave to Pamela Geller for why it refused to publish our "It's Time to Quit Islam" after it had published a "It's Time to Quit the Catholic Church" ad just days before? That's right: they said our ad "could put U.S. troops and/or civilians in the [Afghan] region in danger." Yet this New York Times story contains a link to a Los Angeles Times story that includes photos (complete with facial images and name tags) that are sure to put U.S. troops and/or civilians in the Afghan region in danger." Once again, the Leftist media is arrogant, hypocritical, and self-contradictory -- not to mention fanatically opposed to the defense and safety of the United States (which is not to say that our national security is being protected by the fool's errand in Afghanistan).

Group blasts Marine Corps for reviving 'Crusaders' name and symbols
Excerpt: A recent decision by the Marine Corps to reinstate "Crusaders" as the name of its Fighter Attack Squadron 122 — replacing "Werewolves" — and adopting the red cross of the medieval Knights Templar was blasted as unconstitutional and willfully ignorant by a civil rights group Wednesday. “I don’t know that the Marine Corps could do anything more to fuel the cause of jihad," said Mikey Weinstein, founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, a nonprofit organization that advocates church-state separation. "It will directly end up taking lives and maiming members of our military." (I don't have a problem with the name, given that the Crusades were part of the on-going war when Islam tried to conquer all of Europe, but as a Christian I think the cross might be legitimately offensive to Jewish Marines, among others. ~Bob.)

IG: GSA commissioner’s wife had her own parking spot
Well, Michelle goes on taxpayer-funded vacations, so why not? ~Bob. Excerpt: General Services Administration regional commissioner Jeff Neely’s wife had her own parking space at a federal building, the agency’s inspector general said today — even though she is not a federal employee…

Photo of Black Student Hitting Pinata Shaped Like White Woman Causes Controversy
Excerpt: The University of Memphis in Tennessee responded after a photo of a group of young black students about to hit a pinata went viral. The reason for the controversy? The pinata in question was shaped like a white female hula dancer….("They have to be taught, so carefully taught…” South Pacific, Rodgers and Hammerstein. What is your child learning in school? --Barb. While I think Black racism, e.g. Holder. Jackson and Sharpton, is often worse than lingering White racism, and feeds the latter, I don't see this as a big deal. Assume someone just picked out the pinata from a selection. But they'd made it a symbol of racist White America if it ad the other way around! ~Bob.)

Obama: ‘This Is Not Redistribution’
Excerpt: President Obama went after Republicans at a community college in swing-state Ohio today, calling the right “patriots” who are “wrong.” He also told the students in job-training classes that their program could be cut “to give folks like me a tax cut that we don’t need and that the country can’t afford.” “Understand this is not a redistribution argument,” Obama said. “This is not about taking from rich people to give to poor people. This is about us together making investments in our country so everybody has got a fair shot. And that will make all of us better off…..” “Somebody gave me an education. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Michelle wasn’t. But somebody gave us a chance — just like these folks up here are looking for a chance.” (Well, people have been asking for some time who the "Somebody" who gave Obama an education is. Maybe time he said. ~Bob.)

Northeastern University — Profs Gone Wild: Radical professors give anti-Israel lectures while their Jewish colleagues remain silent. By Charles Jacobs
Excerpt: Many people suspect that American college students get a left-wing and sometimes radical slant from their professors, especially when it comes to matters concerning the Middle East. But few ever get a chance to peek into the lecture halls to see for themselves what today’s higher education provides. It can be shocking….

Excerpt: I’m not really all that into blogging about the Zimmerman/Martin shooting. From what I can tell, what happened was that there was an confrontation that might have very well been avoidable; it ended with a genuinely tragic ending; and that there were actually pretty much no wider partisan implications at all, despite the attempts of the Online Left to fit a Latino Democrat onto the Procrustean bed of WASP Tea Partier. All of which is contemptible of the Online Left, by the way. Expected, but contemptible. Still, the news that the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) has decided to stop working on criminal bill advocacy because of liberal push back on ALEC’s work on stand-your-ground laws is of interest. (NY doesn't have a "stand your ground" law, but Roderick Scott, a black man, was acquitted on self-defense after he shot Christopher Cervini, an unarmed, white 15-year-old teen to death, testifying only that Cervini ran at him, not that he was assaulted. ~Bob.)

The Democrats’ Racist Gun Control History by Ann Coulter
Excerpt: If that were true, every black person in America should get a gun and join the National Rifle Association, America’s oldest and most august civil rights organization. Apparently this has occurred to no one because our excellent public education system ensures that no American under the age of 60 has the slightest notion of this country’s history. Gun control laws were originally promulgated by Democrats to keep guns out of the hands of blacks. This allowed the Democratic policy of slavery to proceed with fewer bumps and, after the Civil War, allowed the Democratic Ku Klux Klan to menace and murder black Americans with little resistance.

Feds pay for study of gay men’s penis sizes By Matthew Boyle - The DailyCaller
Excerpt: The National Institutes of Health(NIH) subsidized a study attempting to find out if a gay man’s penis size has any correlation with his sexual health. The research, titled “The Association between Penis Size and Sexual Health among Men Who Have Sex with Men,” began in 2006 and surveyed 1,065 gay men….“We’ve got nameless, faceless bureaucrats who thought this was a good use of taxpayer money,” says Andrea Lafferty, president of the Traditional Values Coalition, which surfaced the penis-size study. “But, at the end of the day, it was the NIH directors who signed off on it. These nameless, faceless bureaucrats seem to think the American taxpayers are a limitless ATM machine. (Just think, these are the kind of brains that are going to decide what health care, if any, you are entitled to…Barb)

Poll: Dogs Are 5:1 For Mitt In 2012
Excerpt: If we're going to talk about how Mitt Romney treated dogs decades ago, let's talk about how Barack Obama treated dogs decades ago: "With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy). Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share." (May have to scroll this website to 4/18 to get to this piece; no direct link. Shouldn't this make the Supreme Court and Congress nervous, since Obama wants to take on their powers? The Obama-ate-dog meme is as silly a small issue as the Romney gave his dog a ride on top of his car one. But a fair turning of the tables. ~Bob.)

Hitler finds out Obama ate his dog
Too funny. It was only a matter of time. ~Bob.

Teen pleads guilty to killing 92-year-old neighbor
No word from Obama if his son would have looked like the killer. ~Bob. Excerpt: A Forestville teenager pleaded guilty Tuesday to fatally stabbing a 92-year-old neighbor who had acted like a grandmother to him and then making off with her credit card and cash last summer, authorities said.

GOOD NEWS FOR UK MUSLIMS: 48% of Brits want to get out of the country: BAD NEWS FOR UK MUSLIMS: Who will fund the generous welfare state for you?
Excerpt: It meant that the number of foreign-born people in the UK increased from 3.8million in 1993 to 7million in 2010 — or 12 per cent of the population. The number of foreign citizens living here also doubled from under 2million to over 4million. Sir Andrew Green, chairman of pressure group Migration Watch, said: “This underlines the huge impact of Labour’s mass immigration policy.”

When Administrations Implode Victor Davis Hanson
The Obama administration over the last month has seemed on the verge of one of these presidential meltdowns. An open mic caught the president promising Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that he would be more flexible after the election -- as if Obama might grant concessions that would be unpalatable if known to the general public before November. That embarrassment followed an earlier hot-mic put-down of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last year.

Excerpt: The House, defying a White House veto threat, passed GOP legislation Wednesday that extends transportation program funding through September and mandates construction of a controversial oil pipeline from Canada to Gulf Coast refineries. All but 14 Republicans, with support from 70 Democrats, voted 293-197 for legislation that falls far short of Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) earlier plan to move a sweeping five-year, $260 billion package. (Bipartisan support. What Obama said he wanted, right? ~Bob.)

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/cia-seeks-new-authority-to-expand-yemen-drone-campaign/2012/04/18/gIQAsaumRT_story.html
Excerpt: The CIA is seeking authority to expand its covert drone campaign in Yemen by launching strikes against terrorism suspects even when it does not know the identities of those who will be killed, U.S. officials said.

What’s for dinner? Golden Doodle Noodles or German Shepard Pie. ~Bob.

The Governing Class and Us
Excerpt: In a speech yesterday in Elyria, Ohio -- a small town just outside Cleveland sitting at the forks of the Black River -- President Barack Obama delivered a politically charged speech in which he hearkened back to the country's roots, saying that his opponents "don't seem to remember how America was built." In his view, taxpayers want their money spent in ways that will help further "the larger project we call America." In other words, more spending and bigger government paid for with higher taxes. In a city quite unlike Elyria, thousands of miles west, sprawling forth from the desert just east of Death Valley, officials from this federal government provided the latest example of what happens when the president's philosophy succeeds -- when layer upon layer of government grows so big that it begins to serve the interests of a ruling class, rather than the people from whom it derives its power.

Rove: How Romney Can Beat the Buffett Rule: Polls show voters favor Obama's gimmick, but not at the expense of economic growth
Excerpt: Last September, Mr. Obama told a California fundraiser that the Buffett Rule was needed to "stabilize our debt and deficits for the next decade." That argument would fizzle: The tax revenues to be raised over a decade—$46.7 billion, according to the congressional Joint Committee on Taxation—would cover one-half of 1% of Mr. Obama's proposed budget over the same time period.

India tests nuclear-capable missile that can reach China
Excerpt: India successfully test-fired on Thursday a nuclear-capable missile that can reach Beijing and Eastern Europe, thrusting the emerging Asian power into a small club of nations that can deploy nuclear weapons at such a great distance.

Worth Reading: Five Myths of the 'Racist' Criminal Justice System by Larry Elder
Excerpt: Calling America's criminal justice system "racist" is not confined to "civil rights leaders" like the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Then-Sen. Barack Obama, during the 2008 presidential campaign, said it, too. Blacks and whites, said Obama, "are arrested at very different rates, are convicted at very different rates (and) receive very different sentences ... for the same crime." When the man who became president of the United States says this -- the No. 1 law enforcement officer -- it must, therefore, be true. Let's examine five major assumptions behind this assertion.

Responding to Michelle Obama’s statement that President Obama has "brought us out of the dark and into the light," “I'd be happier for someone to take us out of the red into the black.”

'Victims' who persecute By Jeff Jacoby
Excerpt: Yet for all their obvious differences, a fundamental similarity links these two crucial chapters in Jewish history. Both were attempts at genocide — and in both cases the perpetrators justified their savageries by claiming that they were the real victims, threatened by the people they intended to wipe out.

The Seven Most Disturbing Moments So Far in Barack Obamas Presidency
Excerpt: Picking out the most disturbing moments of Barack Obama’s presidency is kind of like trying to choose the wettest parts of the ocean. Other than his “Even a blind squirrel sometimes gets a nut” moment where he said “yes” when the SEALS asked if they were allowed to kill Osama Bin Laden, his entire presidency has been one long, slow motion bamboo shoot sliding under the country’s fingernails. So, everyone reading will probably be able to think of a few national nightmares that aren’t included.

Story of Murdered Iraqi woman in San Diego suddenly nowhere to be found
Excerpt: The last noteworthy story that was published about Shaima Alawadi’s murder showed that her husband and daughter may be linked to her death, despite a note left next to her body that referred to her as a ‘terrorist’ who should return to her own country. When the story first broke, there were forces at work that desperately wanted Alawdi’s death to get the Trayvon Martin treatment. Since the Daily Mail article mentioned above, stories have either been scrubbed or not written.

Jihadis' New Toulouse Inspiration
Excerpts: Jihadis are finding inspiration in the murder of Jewish children and French soldiers in Toulouse, calling for the attack to form a new "school" of terrorism in the West. In "Lessons and Treasures from the Battle of Toulouse," al-Qaida forum moderator Abu Sa'd al-Amili transforms Mohammad Merah's murder of a rabbi, three Jewish school children, and three French soldiers into a glorious raid on Western civilization. Merah's executions, termed "a little like 9/11" by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, are called a "practical lesson in bravery" and the murderer is part of the "fighting men of a special class."

Sudanese al Qaeda fighter killed in Yemen
Excerpt: A well-known jihadist Internet forum has announced that a Sudanese fighter who fought with a top al Qaeda military commander in Pakistan was killed during recent fighting in southern Yemen. The Sudanese fighter, Bara'a Muhammad Salim al Sudani, who is also known as Khallad al Farisi, was killed on April 11 during the heavy fighting in the Yemeni city of Lawdar, according to a statement that was released on the al Qaeda-linked Shumukh al Islam forum.

Retreat: Florida Democrat at the center of Trayvon Martin media circus was for Stand Your Ground law before she was against it
Excerpt: The congresswoman who has stood next to Trayvon Martin’s parents at rallies and emerged as one of the most vocal critics of the Sanford Police Department supported the “Stand Your Ground” law at the center of the case. Rep. Frederica Wilson (D, Fla.) voted for the self-defense law when she was a state senator in 2005, five years before she was elected to represent Miami—and Martin’s family—in Congress.

Excerpt: Over the past 39 months, the presidency of Barack Obama has exhaustively and comprehensively proven — once, for all and forever — that socialism does not work.
I know. It’s sublime. It’s counterintuitive. I know. Take it in. His message is stunning in its simple, elemental beauty.

Supporters Pay $1K For Presidential Handshake
Don’t forget to count your fingers afterwards. He might figure you can give a couple as “your fair share.” ~Bob. Excerpt: Supporters lined up bright and early to get in the door at The Henry Ford, including Lonnie Peek, who handed over $1,000 to stand in a rope line and shake the President’s hand.

Secret Service
Taking time out from stiffing Columbian hookers, the Secret Service is investing Ted Nugent for saying that if Obama is reelected, he (Nugent) would be dead or in jail, taking it as a threat. It could also mean that he thinks Obama will be arresting or killing opponents, of course. But I don’t recall them getting concerned about this:

Pic on OWS Facebook page
It’s the Jews, of course. ~Bob.

Dear Mitt Romney, Obama Is Not A Nice Guy…
Excerpt: On several occasions, Mitt Romney has said that Obama is a “nice guy” but that he’s basically in over his head. While I get the strategy to avoid demonizing someone who a lot of people unfathomably still think is a nice guy, I think using those words undermines the contrast Romney needs to draw between him and Obama. While Romney himself keeps saying “He’s a nice guy” Obama is out there NOT saying Romney is a nice guy. Anyone who is on the fence at the moment subconsciously puts Romney in the category of people who aren’t being called “nice.”

It Can’t Be Done: A Brief Modern History of What Can’t Happen Presidentially by Larry J. Sabato

Nepali slaves in the Middle East - video
Excerpt: Pete Pattison investigates the trafficking of people escaping poverty and conflict in Nepal. Unscrupulous agents take huge sums of money from them for work abroad then consign them to slavery and appalling conditions in the Middle East. Many are abused by their employers and some are killed at the hands of agents. (Well, the Qur’an endorses slavery, so part of their culture. ~Bob.)

Foreign holdings of US debt hit record high; China ups holdings for 2nd time
Excerpt: Foreign demand for U.S. Treasury debt rose to a record high in February. China, the largest buyer of Treasury debt, increased its holdings for the second straight month. Total foreign holdings rose 0.8 percent to a $5.1 trillion, marking the seventh consecutive monthly increase, the Treasury Department reported Monday.

NIH under fire for grants toward creation of homoerotic website
Excerpt: The National Institutes of Health has spent millions of dollars over the past decade to fund the construction of an HIV-prevention website that, among other sexually explicit features, includes a graphic image of homosexual sex and a Space Invaders-style interactive game that uses a penis-shaped blaster to shoot down gay epithets. The grant money went to a team of researchers at the University of Minnesota that created a site called Sexpulse. (I can’t understand why rich, productive people don’t want to “pay their fair share” to support vital government work like this. ~Bob.)

Worker injured during sex gets compensation payout
Excerpt: A WOMAN who was injured while having sex in her hotel room during a work trip is entitled to compensation. In the Federal Court today Justice John Nicholas ruled that the woman was injured during her “course of employment”. The woman’s barrister argued that sex was an “ordinary incident of life” in a hotel room, much like showering and sleeping. (Took place down under. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: In the last few weeks, Democrats have been jumping the Obamacare ship at increasing rates. A former Representative from Pennsylvania who lost her seat in the 2010 election regretted her vote not just for electoral consequences but because she claimed she didn't imagine that the Obama HHS would require contraception coverage. It's getting to higher-profile Democrats now. Elizabeth Warren, the Democrat favorite running against Scott Brown in Massachusetts, came out in support of partial repeal of the law.

Mitt Romney responds to Obama’s ‘silver spoon’ swipe
After President Obama took a not-so-subtle jab at his Republican opponent Mitt Romney by saying, “unlike some people, I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth,” Romney on Thursday accused the president of “attacking people” when he should be “attacking problems.” … “I’m certainly not going to apologize for my dad and his success in life,” Romney said on “Fox & Friends.” “He was born poor. He worked his way to become very successful despite the fact that he didn’t have a college degree, and one of the things he wanted to do was provide for me and for my brother and sisters.”

Reid blocks Rand Paul's Egypt amendment from USPS reform bill
Excerpt: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) cut off an attempt by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to attach an amendment discontinuing foreign aid to Egypt to a bill meant to streamline the United States Postal Service. Reid argued Paul’s amendment wasn’t relevant to postal reform and used a Senate procedure known as filling the tree to prevent Paul’s amendment from coming to the floor.

Excerpt: The House approved legislation backed by Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) Thursday that would cut taxes on small business by 20 percent. For the second day in a row, the House ignored a veto threat from President Obama in passing the tax bill in a 235-173, mostly party-line vote.

Obama ’08 campaign failed to disclose $2 million in contributions, FEC audit finds
Excerpt: The Obama campaign did not disclose $2 million in donations ahead of the 2008 elections, according to an audit by the Federal Election Commission released Thursday. The Obama campaign was required to file public disclosures of contributions over $1,000 within two days after they were received in the weeks leading up to the election. The campaign failed to disclose 1,312 contributions totalling $1,972,266 that were transferred from a fund used to raise money with the Democratic National Committee. (Common mistake. I often forget about $2M. ~Bob.)

Photo: Senate Dems Not Even Showing Up for Budget Meetings At This Point
Excerpt: What you're looking at is a view of today's Senate Budget Committee meeting, at which Chairman Kent Conrad conducted a faux "markup" of his party's FY 2013 budget resolution. The near side of the table is where Democrats were supposed to sit. Granted, this entire exercise was somewhat academic because its resulting product would receive neither a vote in this committee, nor in the Senate at large.

BREAKING: Without Warning, FBI Halts Intel Sharing
Excerpt: Without making a public or private announcement, the FBI has ended critical intelligence sharing with all 77 law enforcement fusion centers nationwide. This policy was implemented less than two days after a top FBI official told Congress about the FBI’s extensive efforts to share intelligence with state and local partners.

Mary Pinchot Meyer, JFK Mistress, Assassinated By CIA, New Book Says
Excerpt: After Kennedy's election as president, Meyer became a frequent visitor to the White House, and her sexual relationship with the president was well known at the time, according to Janney and previous accounts, notably a 1998 biography of Meyer by journalist Nina Burleigh titled "A Very Private Woman: The Life and Unsolved Murder of Presidential Mistress Mary Meyer." (Take with NaCl. ~Bob.)

IHOP Sued After 4 Muslim Managers Are Fired
Excerpt: Attorneys filed a federal lawsuit against IHOP and a local franchise owner on Tuesday, claiming that the restaurant owners fired four managers across the Metroplex in 2010 because they are Muslim. The attorneys for the four managers said that their clients are still unemployed because of the damage done to their reputations.

Ten years ago, Democrats told us ANWR wouldn’t produce any oil for 10 years: Another talking point runs out of gas. by John Hayward
Excerpt: The Heritage Foundation marks an important anniversary today: it’s been precisely ten years since Senate Democrats blocked oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and told us there was no reason to get worked up about it, because ANWR wouldn’t produce any oil for ten years.

16 Reasons To Move Away From California
Excerpt: Once upon a time, millions upon millions of young people dreamed of moving to California. Nearly endless sunshine, pristine beaches and a booming economy made it seem like paradise to many. But now those days are long gone. Unemployment is rampant, home prices have fallen like a rock, violent crime and gang activity are on the rise, local governments all over California are facing horrible financial problems, millions of illegal immigrants have poured into the state, traffic around the big cities is nightmarish and tax rates are absolutely outrageous.

Boss: Driver took wrong turn into Juárez with load of ammo
Excerpt: The U.S. truck driver detained by Mexican authorities Tuesday with 268,000 rounds of ammunition was transporting a legal cargo to Phoenix but mistakenly exited to Juárez, the man's employer said on Wednesday. (Immediately offered job by Eric Holder. ~Bob.)

Instead of the Buffett Rule, I prefer the Geithner Rule: pay your taxes whenever it's convenient.

Strong Job Creation Predicted by Wisconsin Employers
Excerpt: Wisconsin employers are predicting strong job creation in 2012, with 87 percent of WMC members creating new jobs this year, a WMC survey found. “Wisconsin employers say they will be creating new jobs in 2012, and that’s good news for our families and our communities,” said Kurt R. Bauer, President/CEO of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce. WMC is the state’s largest business association, representing small, medium, and large manufacturers and employers in all other sectors.

Excerpt: In interviews with conservative leaders and activists, many said Santorum’s decision to drop out of the presidential race prompted soul-searching about Romney, whom they’ve resolved to consider with fresh eyes and a newly opened mind.
