I post articles because I think they are of interest. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article. Book Recommendation: In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson
This is one of those books that just gets better and better, until at the end I found myself gleaning the chapter notes for comments and anecdotes not included in the text. This is the story of William E. Dodd, a naive Chicago historian who became FDR's ambassador to Germany from 1933-1937, during Hitler's rise and consolidation of power. It's also the story of his feckless and promiscuous daughter Martha, who had lovers ranging from a Communist diplomat from the USSR to the head of the Gestapo. Dodd didn't fit the mold for diplomats of the time, preferring to live simply on his salary. He also was willing to speak out against the growing terror of the Nazi regime, rather than keep silent to observe the diplomatic niceties. This earned him the wrath of the foreign policy establishment, known as the Pretty Good Club. Dodd may have been naive, but he was able to discern that, no, indeed, we couldn't "do business" with Hitler, and spent the last years of his life speaking out to warn America of the danger of Nazi Germany, to the detriment of his health and scholarship. For those who are very familiar with WWII, but not the years that led up to it, this book will be eye opening. There are warnings here for our times, when too many people think that great evil cannot come on us, as it did in the 1930s. In 1934, New York Jews held a mock trial of Hitler, to the protests of Germany. Our government basically said, sorry, First Amendment and all that. One wonders what the government's reaction today would be to a mock trial of, say, Mohammad?
Boy, girl killed in Afghan acid attack 'over friendship'
Excerpt: A congressman who was impeached and removed from the federal bench in Florida, and who is now under investigation by the House Ethics Committee, has been exposed by a Beltway watchdog group for yet another transgression -- nepotism.
--
Top Obama campaign donor accused of fraud
Excerpt: A major donor to President Barack Obama has been accused of defrauding a businessman and impersonating a bank official, creating new headaches for Obama's re-election campaign as it deals with the questionable history of another top supporter. The New York donor, Abake Assongba, and her husband contributed more than $50,000 to Obama's re-election effort this year, federal records show. (Quick! Look over there! Trayvon Martin and racism! ~Bob.)
NBC to do ‘internal investigation’ on Zimmerman segment
They could care less about any violence they incite as long as they fit the facts to the narrative that plays to their viewer base. The media gets more despicable every year. ~Bob. Excerpt: The difference between what “Today” put on its air and the actual tape? Complete: In the “Today” version, Zimmerman volunteered that this person “looks black,” a sequence of events that would more readily paint Zimmerman as a racial profiler. In reality’s version, Zimmerman simply answered a question about the race of the person whom he was reporting to the police. Nothing prejudicial at all in responding to such an inquiry.
DNC, MSM Smear Mitt with Deceptive Edit
Excerpt: The problem with the video the DNC has released (and which has been picked up by their reliable minions including Ezra Klein at the Washington Post, Huffington Post, and Talking Points Memo) is that the excerpt from a Jan 5, 2008 New Hampshire debate is selectively edited and does not include an exculpatory moment one minute later where Gov. Romney clearly and unequivocally states he would NOT be in favor of an individual mandate at the federal level. (You expect politicians on either side to try to play you. But the media not tries to play you to support their agenda, rather than educate you. Don't take anything they say at face value. ~Bob.)
Worth Reading: Earth Hour: A Dissent by Ross McKitrick
I suspect this excellent essay may become a perennial. --Ron P. Excerpt: Abundant, cheap electricity has been the greatest source of human liberation in the 20th century. Every material social advance in the 20th century depended on the proliferation of inexpensive and reliable electricity. Giving women the freedom to work outside the home depended on the availability of electrical appliances that free up time from domestic chores. Getting children out of menial labour and into schools depended on the same thing, as well as the ability to provide safe indoor lighting for reading.
Sign at Wegmans draws attention
Assume gays and folks with service dogs should avoid that line as well, as both are haraam. To avoid giving offense, I'd just not shop there. ~Bob.) Excerpt: It’s a first for Wegmans in this area. They’ve put up a sign asking customers buying pork or alcohol not to use a particular checkout line when a Muslim teenager is on duty as the cashier. The sign went up a week ago at their Lyell Avenue store. (Comment from the website: Another ‘one way street’ for Islam. I for example, am uncomfortable dealing with Muslims because of their, ‘kill all the unbelievers’ policy among a thousand other objectionable things in their religion. But I can’t see Wegman’s replacing this cashier with one I am comfortable with on my account even though the reasoning is identical.)
Michelle Obama makes fundraising stop in SF
Excerpt: "Believe me, Barack Obama knows what it means when a family struggles," she said. (#Moochelle fresh off 17th vacay to $500/a-ticket donors @ 43rd fundraiser “Barack knows when families struggle.” Tweet from @Hardline_Stance Unbelievable in America today, but there are struggling families who cannot afford to send their 13-yeay-olds to Mexico for Spring Break with 12 friends and 25 guards on two jets. When will the suffering end? ~Bob.)
EGYPT: Muslim Father tries to drown daughter because she divorced her abusive husband
Excerpt: An Egyptian man and other members of his family tied his daughter up and dumped her in the Nile after she was divorced from her elderly husband. (We can only hope and pray that the misguided girl doesn't become Islamophobic. ~Bob.)
Good cartoon if it loads
Islamist Explosion Kills Christian in Kenya
Excerpt: Two almost simultaneous grenade attacks in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa and a nearby small town late Saturday killed one person and wounded at least 24 others. Officials say unidentified attackers threw a grenade at a Christian religious gathering in Mtwapa, a town north of Mombasa, killing a woman and wounding more than 20 people.
Progressives Simply Do Not Like The United States by Derek Hunter
Excerpt: Backers of the multi-cultural agenda seek to remove the melting pot that made this country great from the heat that fueled it. Instead, they want to create a coagulated mess that they can mold how they see fit. They don’t want us thinking of ourselves as Americans. All kinds of craziness, such as patriotism and true community spirit, could break out.
Spike Lee's Vigilante Trayvon Tweet by Doug Giles
Excerpt: What if Spike got the right Zimmerman and his cabal charged in and beat and/or killed a man who had yet to be given due process under the law? Hmmm? Question: Would Lee be legally liable if one of his vigilantes said they got their 411 and motivation for mayhem from his tweet?
Boy, girl killed in Afghan acid attack 'over friendship'
Excerpt: A 12-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy have been killed in an acid attack in Afghanistan, an official said Saturday, with witnesses claiming it was because of their friendship in what is an ultra-conservative country. The bodies were discovered on Friday in wasteland in the Esfandi area of Ghazni province in south central Afghanistan, provincial police chief Zorawar Zahid told AFP. "Their bodies and faces were burnt by acid," he said. (This will only be a tragedy if it makes some folks Islamophobic. ~Bob.)
Obama Administration Won’t Prosecute Saudi It Claims Threatened to ‘Blow Up White House’
Excerpt: The Obama administration says it will not prosecute a Saudi Arabian national who the administration claimed in congressional testimony entered the United States on a student visa and then was arrested after threatening to blow up the White House. (But if a fundamentalist Christian had tried to blow up the White House, it would be a chance for a great, anti-racism show trial, taking everyone's mind off jobs, the economy and gas prices. ~Bob.)
At FBI, 876 pages of agent training material related to Muslims found offensive or inaccurate
Excerpt: An FBI review of agent training material critical of Islam uncovered 876 offensive or inaccurate pages that had been used in 392 presentations, including a PowerPoint slide that said the bureau can sometimes bend or suspend the law. The bureau has not released the material, but Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois described a few pages of it in a letter asking FBI Director Robert Mueller to institute five changes so that inappropriate FBI training on Islam doesn't happen again. (Better PC than safe. ~Bob.)
In Friday sermon, JAWI tells Muslims Jews are No. 1 enemy
Excerpt: The Federal Territories’ official sermon today told Muslims Jews are their main enemy as proven by their ego and murderous acts. The Friday sermon, delivered at lunchtime in mosques across the capital city, said Muslims must “free your brethren in Palestine from the grasp of Zionist rule and economic siege by donating money, food, medicine and whatever is suitable.” (Meanwhile, at the UN, efforts to criminalize any criticism of Islam go forward. ~Bob.)
Supreme court sentences non-Italian father for child abuse: Judge refuses defense's ethnic-religious argument
Excerpt: Defense lawyers maintained that the father, who allegedly beat his daughter with a broom handle for "corrective" purposes after she could not properly recite the Koran, did so because of "cultural" reasons and should be given a lighter sentence accordingly.
In Toulouse suburb, "scooter killer" is "one of us"
Guess they didn't get the "Islam is a Religion of Peace" memo. ~Bob. Excerpt: In the neighborhood where Mohamed Merah grew up, and was last seen joking with friends days after he had killed three French soldiers in a pair of shootings, the message to outsiders is clear: he was one of our own, no matter what he did.
Three deadly explosions hit Yala in southern Thailand
Excerpt: Thailand's three southernmost provinces have been plagued by bomb attacks and shootings since 2004, when a separatist campaign reignited. "We are not sure which group of suspected Muslim insurgents were behind this, but we are looking," Mr Dejrat said. (How do they know it was one of the Muslim groups? Might have been Presbyterians. Clear Islamophobia! ~Bob.)
Extreme cures for extreme sea level projections by Cliff Ollier
Excerpt: The CSIRO projection is in fact extreme. Before explaining why, I should like to note that the world’s main source of alarmism is the IPCC. This is not really a scientific body, but one that adjusts data and subjects it to mathematical modelling before passing its ‘projections’ on to politicians. (From down under. Facts? Concerned politicians don’t need no stinkin’ facts. Fact: water is not compressible. That’s why hydraulic brakes, lifts, and other things work. So, “sea level” anywhere is pretty much “sea level” EVERYWHERE in the world, even if the viewer isn’t near the sea (this doesn't mean your local water table can't be above sea level). Check the 11th and 12th paragraphs for what sea level is doing in the country most concerned about it—since a large percentage of the country is below it—Holland. There are also some good links in the article for those who wish to check the research for themselves. It was never about global warming, it was always about global economic and political control. Ron P.)
Drug Lord Thanks Obama, Both Bushes, and Reagan For War On Drugs: "I Owe My Whole Empire to You"
High School Allows 'Black Power' Poster, Kills 'Respect Women' Flyers
Excerpt: I pointed out the obvious injustices done against women by the media. Like my many other projects, this one was challenged by the administration at my school. My posters were not allowed to be hung on the walls yet the words, "Black Power” next to Martin Luther King’s image did end up on the walls and wasn’t challenged. This is not only an injustice to women but to MLK as well.
Could Secret Miniature Drone Technologies Take Down Rogue Governments?
Excerpt: The merging of cybernetic control and micro-electro-mechanical control systems has opened up a radical new means of attacking human military command and control assets: Here come the 21st Century Bug-Eyed Assassins. In the not-too-distant future, it may become acceptable to drop clouds of miniature robotic assassins -- swarms of insect-like remote controllable machines -- against enemy targets.
Protect the Mount of Olives!
Excerpt: Last Tuesday, several hours before he was to wed, a young bridegroom wished to say a short prayer at his mother’s grave on Jerusalem’s Mount of Olives. He lost his mother last year and a visit to the cemetery constituted for him her inclusion in his special day. He was driven up by his friend Dror Klein. As they neared their destination, a bucket of white paint crashed into the front windshield, obscuring Dror’s view. A hail of stones followed.
Was French Muslim killer, Mohammed Merah, a double agent also working for French Intelligence Services?
Excerpt: Following the shootings of seven people in southwestern France, authorities have insisted that gunman Mohammed Merah acted alone. But a reporter with Italian newspaper Il Foglio is citing an anonymous source that Merah was both an Islamic religious extremist and a spy for French intelligence.
Allah Created Women Naked
Excerpt: Activists stripped off their tops in the Paris Square in protest against the burqa and in defense of Muslim women’s rights. The protest was organized by Iranian human rights activist Mariam Namazi, a popular Lebanese actress Darina Al Jondy, well-known French feminist of Arabian origin Safia Lebdi. On the bodies of activists and posters were written slogans against Islamic sharia barbarism against girls and women in the Middle East. (I support this on several levels. ~Bob.)
Mayor Roach gives condolences to Chamberlain family in White Plains police shooting
Black Marine veteran killed by police. Family says another Trayvon Martin situation. Hard to know when the situation becomes politicized. ~Bob. Excerpt: A former Marine and retired corrections officer, Chamberlain was killed Nov. 19 at his 135 S. Lexington Ave. apartment by officers who responded after family members said his medical alert device accidentally went off. The family said Chamberlain told police he was OK and that there was no emergency and the medical alert company called to cancel the alarm, but officers insisted that Chamberlain let them in to make sure everything was all right. Police said Chamberlain was emotionally disturbed and screaming and tried to attack them with a hatchet and a knife and was shot with a stun gun and beanbags before an officer shot him with his handgun.
Nancy Strait, 85, was sexually assaulted and battered to death by burglar. Her husband Bob, 90, suffered a broken jaw and broken ribs in attack: Police have arrested 20-year-old Tyrone Dale David Woodfork
Excerpt: An 85-year-old woman was sexually assaulted and battered to death by a home invader who also shot her 90-year-old husband in the face with a BB gun. Nancy and Bob Strait, who had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in December, were discovered by their daughter at their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. ("If Obama had a son..." would he look like Tyrone? Waiting for statement. ~Bob.)
GERMANY: Muslim man dies in hospital, unruly mob of man’s relatives disrupts hospital
Excerpt: At St. Elisabeth Hospital in Herten, Germany, after the death from a serious illness of a 42-year old Muslim male who was in intensive care, a 90-person strong Muslim mob overran the hospital and refused to obey staff requests to leave.
You Just Hate Me Cause I'm White: Hoodie Song Parody
The race baiters on the Trayvon case are getting the backlash they want. I'll be surprised if YouTube leaves this up. ~Bob
How California's Colleges Indoctrinate Students by Peter Berkowitz
Excerpt: The politicization of higher education by activist professors and compliant university administrators deprives students of the opportunity to acquire knowledge and refine their minds. It also erodes the nation’s civic cohesion and its ability to preserve the institutions that undergird democracy in America. So argues “A Crisis of Competence: The Corrupting Effect of Political Activism in the University of California,” a new report by the California Association of Scholars, a division of the National Association of Scholars (NAS). (I spent eight terms at Los Angeles City College from 2008 to 2011. The World Literature teacher was a failed theatrical producer. One of the first things he said to us was, “I feel like a girl. All Japanese men feel like girls. White men. I don’t give a S. I don’t give a F. I’ve got tenure.” He told the story of WWII without mentioning Pearl Harbor. The failed novelist who taught Critical Thinking was asked by a young student one morning early in the term, “Where does all the evil in the world come from?” Her reply was, with a satisfied grin, “White men.” In both Spanish 4 and in Spanish Conversation, we learned that World War II was that really hard time for Mexicans. WWII was when the trouble really started for Mexicans, who had to take jobs that had been vacated by Americans, and this work even sometimes involved travel for Mexicans. The Commie Geography teacher, a former white-water rafting guide, did admit one day that, once a person has opted for a teaching position, he or she is very unlikely to ever again be seriously considered as a potential employee by those who work in the private sector. --Kate)
49% Trust Republicans on Economy, 38% Trust Democrats More
Excerpt: As they have for nearly three years now, voters trust Republicans more than Democrats when it comes to handling the economy, by far the top issue on a list of 10 regularly tracked by Rasmussen Reports. They put slightly more trust in Democrats on health care, the second most important issue. (No wonder Democrats are so grateful for and focused on Sandra Fluke and Trayvon Martin. Economy? Jobs? Gas Prices? Quick, look over there! ~Bob.)
Obama's Alinsky Strategy: Who's Next? by P.J. Salvatore
Excerpt: The death of Trayvon Martin is a tragedy--as was the death of a 6-year-old girl named Aliyah Shell (photo above), caught in the crossfire of gang violence over St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Chicago…. But Aliyah's story received very little coverage, despite the event being more recent than the Martin tragedy, and despite the fact that it happened in President Barack Obama’s very own Chicago on a weekend when 49 people were shot and 10 others were killed….. Why? Why would the president weigh in on this specific case at this specific time? …
Blindsided: 9/11 Was the Rule, Not the Exception
Excerpt: The word jihad literally means “struggle,” but it’s often used to communicate the concept of holy war. It is on the lips of violent terrorists, but it is also shouted by Egyptian mobs who assault Coptic Christians. And it’s the first word that Palestinian children learn from their reading primers. (…) Jihad is at the core of Islam. It is the method through which militant Islam tries to rule the world. It is the rule, not the exception. (Perhaps this has more impact—at least on anyone not a committed Progressive—when said by one who has lived it. Ron P.)
Rep. Hastings accused of rampant nepotism, says watchdog group by Jim Kouri
Excerpt: A congressman who was impeached and removed from the federal bench in Florida, and who is now under investigation by the House Ethics Committee, has been exposed by a Beltway watchdog group for yet another transgression -- nepotism.
