In the last five years, law enforcement authorities have discovered over 100 cross-border tunnels along the border between Mexico and the United States, a dramatic increase over previous years. As increased aerial surveillance, including drones, deters ground operations, smugglers have  gone underground, enabling them to import drugs, weapons, terrorists, and illegal aliens. The bi-partisan Border Tunnel Prevention Act of 2011 would provide law enforcement and prosecutors additional tools to locate tunnels, identify criminals and punish those involved in illegal activity.
