NEWT GINGRICH: JOB CREATOR
As noted last Friday in Newt News, PolitiFact.com confirmed the accuracy of Newt’s statement that 16 million jobs were created in the 1980s during the Reagan years. However, it should also be noted that an additional 11 million jobs were created during the time when Newt was Speaker – from 1995 through 1999.
Indeed, the number of workers went from roughly 116 million in January 1995 to roughly 127 million in January 1999. So when columnist Peter Ferrera wrote that under Newt’s proposed energy program, some 7 million jobs would likely be created…you can pretty much take that to the bank.
NEWT’S GINGRICH: BUDGET BALANCER
Peter Ferrera/Forbes.com: “Newt Gingrich has proposed a very aggressive, comprehensive, supply side, jobs and economic recovery plan. That includes an optional 15% flat tax, reducing the federal corporate tax rate to 12.5%, eliminating the tax on capital gains, abolishing the death tax, and immediate expensing for capital investment. The plan includes as well reforming the Fed to mandate that it follow a price rule to maintain a stable dollar without inflation.
