Komen foundation reverses decision to end Planned Parenthood grants
Excerpt: Susan G. Komen for the Cure announced Friday it was reversing its decision to end grants to Planned Parenthood, after facing mounting pressure from pro-choice lawmakers and accusations that the breast cancer awareness organization had bowed to political influences. "We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives," the group said in a statement. (Thus losing donations from both sides. ~Bob.)
Komen Donations Jump 100% After Cutting Planned Parenthood
Excerpt: Donations to the Komen for the Cure breast cancer charity have jumped 100% following the announcement that it is ending its relationship with the Planned Parenthood abortion business. Nancy Brinker, the founder and CEO of the Komen Foundation, made the announcement today on a conference call with reporters telling them the organization is “singularly focused” on combating breast cancer, and that the politics of the decision to stop funding Planned Parenthood has been distracting from their mission. (They’ll be fine. I bet Komen spends more on advertising than is spent on research for pulmonary fibrosis, my disease, though PF kills as many, probably more than breast cancer. ~Bob.)
A Painful Betrayal
Excerpt: With its roster of corporate sponsors and the pink ribbons that lend a halo to almost any kind of product you can think of, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation has a longstanding reputation as a staunch protector of women’s health. That reputation suffered a grievous, perhaps mortal, wound this week from the news that Komen, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, decided to betray that mission. (The left’s propaganda rag weighs in. What was Komen thinking? Planned Parenthood was founded on eugenics to keep down the number of blacks and other undesirables and has been doing a great job on that, as the number of aborted black babies shows. ~Bob.)
Donald Trump endorses Mitt Romney
Excerpt: Celebrity mogul Donald Trump endorsed former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney in Las Vegas today. “Mitt is tough, he’s sharp, he’s smart,” said Trump from the lobby of his Las Vegas hotel. “He’s not going to allow bad things to continue to happen to this country that we all love.” (This is a little late. Came in after I posted Friday’s Digest. I haven’t been a Trump fan, but because he’s on TV commenting about current events, I sent him a copy of Collapse. His secretary called and thanked me, about the only response I’ve gotten except for thanks from Allan West and the CMC. ~Bob.)
Rep. Shuler to retire, faced tough 2012 race
Excerpt: Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) will not run for reelection to the House, three sources with knowledge of his plans confirmed to The Hill. One of the last remaining members of the Blue Dog Coalition, Shuler was hit by congressional redistricting that made his western North Carolina district much more difficult for a Democrat to win.
Pelosi Vows to Stand With Obama Against Catholic Church; Says Decision Forcing Catholics to Act Against Faith Was ‘Very Courageous’
Excerpt: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) vowed today that she will join with the Obama administration in standing up against the Catholic Church in defending a new regulation that will require Catholic individuals to buy, and Catholic institutions to provide, health insurance plans that cover sterilizations and artificial contraceptives, including those that induce abortions.
Worth Reading: The Volt: What Happens When Ideology Gets Ahead of Reality
Excerpt: Last week GM launched “national and television print ads” to try to bolster the slumping sales for the Volt. (Every time you see an ad for an electric car, think of President Obama and your tax dollars.) Dealer orders are down. They report: “We just haven’t been seeing the interest. The cost definitely has something to do with it.” GM is considering slowing production due to the less-than-expected demand and has temporarily laid-off 1,200 workers.
Indiana passes human trafficking law in time for Super Bowl
Excerpt: Indiana lawmakers passed tough human trafficking legislation this week -- just in time to prevent an event where thousands of young girls could get bought and sold for sex. “The Super Bowl is a huge human trafficking event,” said State Sen. Randy Head, (R-Logansport). “They’re running sophisticated rings -- trading girls from city to city.” (Gives new meaning to: He. Could. Go. All. The. Way. Big money attracts big slime, alas. ~Bob.)
U.S. officials concerned by Israel statements on Iran threat, possible strike
Excerpt: Israeli leaders on Thursday delivered one of the bluntest warnings to date of possible airstrikes against Iranian nuclear sites, adding to the anxiety in Western capitals that a surprise attack by Israel could spark a broader military conflict in the Middle East. Defense Minister Ehud Barak, speaking at a security forum attended by some of Israel’s top intelligence and military leaders, declared that time was running out for stopping Iran’s nuclear advance, as the country’s uranium facilities disappear into newly constructed mountain bunkers.
Measuring Income Tax Evasion in the United States
Excerpt: A new study by two professors of economics, Richard Cebula, of Jacksonville University, and Edgar L. Feige, of the University of Wisconsin, seeks to determine the amount of annual tax evasion and the factors that are relevant in encouraging it. The last IRS attempt to measure the amount of taxes that the IRS does not receive due to tax evasion was conducted in 2001; it arrived at a total of $345 billion. These researchers, however, estimate it has grown in recent years and found that some $2 trillion in individual income is unreported to the IRS, constituting between 18 and 19 percent of total taxable income. This total would result in an additional $450 billion to $500 billion in income tax revenue for the federal government. Tax evasion is not a new phenomenon: taxpayers and market participants respond to incentives. So long as they find money desirable, they will resist efforts (even legal ones) to take it from them. For this reason, the researchers also conducted an in-depth study of factors they considered relevant to tax evasion in order to find out their respective degrees of impact. Each of the following variables was found to be significant to a 95 percent level of confidence: The average effective federal income tax rate. The unemployment rate in the civilian labor force. Public dissatisfaction with government. The first variable is perhaps the most significant as politicians debate the merits of additional tax increases. The study found that taxpayers respond in a number of ways in order to avoid the burden of higher taxes, including working less, exploiting tax loopholes and illegal forms of tax evasion. The Left's solution to this problem is that, in tandem with tax increases, the IRS should have its auditing capacity augmented. However, the study also found that the impact of an empowered IRS is insignificant in reducing tax evasion. (One of the great benefits of Tax Evasion is that it sets you up for a good job in government, either in Congress [See Charlie Rangel, D- Dominican Republic] or in the Obama Administration. {See Tim Geithner, Treasury.] ~Bob.)
Improving Fortunes
Excerpt: With no debates and no high-profile caucuses or primaries in the next three weeks, Romney’s rivals are in a room with little oxygen and few opportunities to rekindle their fundraising efforts. The focus will likely shift from the GOP nomination contest for a while. More attention will be on the political environment in which Democrats and Republicans will wage the general-election campaign. Pollsters and strategists in both parties are closely watching some very preliminary and uncertain signs that suggest the dynamics today will be somewhat different than those that drove the 2010 midterm elections and the political debate during much of 2011. (Notice that Cook isn't saying Obama will have an easy ride to re-election, he's saying Obama has real reason to hope. Our job is to crush that hope as thoroughly as possible. Ron P. I think there is about a 50% likelihood that some dramatic event will change this for or against Obama: war, assassination attempt, WMD terror strike on us, nuke strike on Israel, economic disaster, etc. ~Bob.)
The Case For Romney by Jonah Goldberg
Excerpt: It is better to have a president who owes you than to have one who claims to own you. A President Romney would be on a very short leash. A President Gingrich would probably chew through his leash in the first 10 minutes of his presidency and wander off into trouble. If elected, Romney must follow through for conservatives and honor his vows to repeal ObamaCare, implement Rep. Paul Ryan's agenda, and stay true to his pro-life commitments.
Police Kill 4 Protesters as Egyptians Unleash Fury Over Soccer Riot Deaths
Excerpt: The police in several Egyptian cities battled on Thursday night and Friday with thousands of die-hard soccer fans angry at the military-led government’s failure to prevent dozens of deaths at a soccer riot in Port Said the previous night. By Friday morning, there were reports that the police here in Cairo were firing birdshot at the crowd and The Associated Press reported that at least one demonstrator had been killed. (They are members of The Religion of Peace, so naturally when there are no kuffer [Christians, Jews, Buddhists and other infidels] around to slaughter, they slaughter each other over vital questions like was Mohammad’s rightful successor 1,300 years ago his adopted son, Ali or Abu Bakr, his father-in-law and…soccer. ~Bob.)
Libyan diplomat dies after torture: rights group
A Libyan diplomat who served as ambassador to France for Muammar Gaddafi died from torture within a day of being detained by a militia from Zintan, Human Rights Watch said in a statement on Friday. Zintan is the town where the late Libyan ruler's most prominent son, Saif al-Islam, is being held, and the former diplomat's death has reinforced concerns for the son's safety. (Obama’s Jeffersonian-democrat allies in the Arab Spring don’t seem to have his squeamishness about such things. Bet the guy would have rather been waterboarded. ~Bob.)
China Considers Offering Aid in Europe’s Debt Crisis
Excerpt: Prime Minister Wen Jiabao said Thursday that China would consider working with the International Monetary Fund to help shore up Europe’s finances. But he left unclear whether China was willing to drop conditions that so far have made its proposed help unappealing to European nations. (Huh. Commies conquer world by being better at capitalism. Who would have guessed. Europe should refuse their help until China adopts the EU’s carbon standards. Ha. ~Bob.)
Cuban protesters say police manhandled them
Excerpt: Cuban dissidents say police beat, groped and detained seven women who tried to stage a march in the central city of Santa Clara to demand the release of an opposition couple jailed since early January. In an audio recording provided by the dissidents, women were heard screaming and repeatedly shouting "Don't stick your hands on my breasts, murderer," as police allegedly searched for the cellphones recording the scene. (So, will Michael Moore make a movie about anti-Castro protests? ~Bob.)
Mali: Tuareg rebellion sparks angry protests in Bamako
Excerpt: Protesters surrounded the residence of Mali's president in angry protests over the government's handling of attacks by Tuareg rebels in the country's north.
Tyres have been set on fire and roads have been blocked in the capital Bamako on a fourth day of demonstrations. (Extra credit if you can point to Bamako on a world map, first try. Me, neither. ~Bob)
Obama’s safety?
Jesse Jackson has recently been expressing concern over the president’s safety. See: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/jesse-jackson-predicts-somebody-shooting-an-ak-47-in-the-white-house-as-a-result-of-gop-criticism/
I think the President should be more concerned for his own safety from Jesse himself! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cML1ZVmRN9A --G.J. (Of course, all the hate directed at Bush from the left was fine. Since 1960, the violence has been directed at Republican presidents, once at Reagan, twice at Ford. But Jesse has clout. Remember when he criticized Budweiser as being racist? Bud bought him off with a distributorship for his son, now Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr (D-Bud Lite), and Bud was then fine for black folks to drink. Thankfully, the attempt to buy a US Senate seat for Jesse Jr. (Candidate Five) failed when Blagojevich was indicted. ~Bob)
Quote from The Patriot Post
I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. --Benjamin Franklin
Unions and Occupiers vs. the Super Bowl By Arnold Ahlert
Excerpt: Yet as is becoming drearily expected, the will of the electorate means little or nothing to unionists and their Democrat enablers when that will is reflected in legislation antithetical to their agenda. Incredibly, labor activists are talking about taking their protest to what they consider one of the biggest stages in the nation -- the Super Bowl game on Sunday, February 5th. That protest could reportedly include such tactics as Teamsters jamming city streets with trucks, and union electricians staging a slowdown at the Super Bowl Village convention site. Even more incredibly, they could be joined by protesters from the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement.
Worth Reading: Syria: It's Not Just About Freedom By Charles Krauthammer
Excerpt: Imperial regimes can crack when they are driven out of their major foreign outposts. The fall of the Berlin Wall did not just signal the liberation of Eastern Europe from Moscow. It prefigured the collapse of the Soviet Union itself just two years later.
Pettifogged Into Silence By George Will
Excerpt: Last October, Galassini became annoyed -- like many Ron Paul supporters, she is easily annoyed by government -- about the city's plan to augment its spending with a $29.6 million bond issue, to be voted on by mail by Nov. 8. On Oct. 6, she sent emails to 23 friends and acquaintances, urging them to write letters to newspapers and join her in two demonstrations against the bond measure. On Oct. 12, before she could organize the demonstrations, she received a stern letter from the town clerk: "I would strongly encourage you to cease any campaign-related activities until the requirements of the law have been met."
If The Economy Is Improving….
Excerpt: But right now there are some "bright spots" in the economy, and you are bound to run into family and friends that will repeat to you the nonsense that they are hearing on the television about how the economy is recovering. When they try to convince you that the economy is getting better, ask them these questions....
Job Growth Should Be Stronger
Excerpt: Administration and the nation have cause to breathe a sign of relief as today's monthly jobs report shows 243,000 jobs were created in January. Those numbers are of course good news, another positive sign of recovery, and another clear indication of the enduring strength of the American economy and American economic system. But, really, so long after recession's end, we should be doing much better -- and would be but for President Barack Obama's debilitating anti-growth policies. In reality, the economy is recovering despite -- not because of -- Obama's policies. Make no mistake: 243,000 jobs is good, but we should be seeing numbers upwards of 350,000. America can and should do better.
Excerpt: There are times when one questions a report as possibly being wrong or in error, and then there are times when one has to raise a flag and say “This is an intentionally false picture being presented by a government agency.” I’m in the latter camp with this one, and it is rare for me to brand something as not possibly wrong and in error, but intentionally fraudulent. (Some interesting charts. Hard for most folks, including me, to interpret the myriad statistics. There is an alas-bogus Churchill quote I like: “The only statistics you can trust are those you falsified yourself.” ~Bob.)
Pelosi, the perfect "buffet Catholic" (Response to this article)
If there was ever any doubt about Nancy Pelosi's dedication to what she wants/likes as opposed to any other kind of standard of behavior, this is the final confirmation of her egocentricity. She claims to be a Catholic but will instantly flout key teachings of the Church to stay in lockstep with the Administration's push to control the actions of people and institutions regardless of longstanding theological positions of their Faith. Yet Muslims are exempt from having to buy individual health insurance if they appeal to Sharia Law forbidding them to engage in what they choose to see as a form of gambling. How in Hell can anyone consider that and not see an incredible double standard being employed at the whim of the politicians in power? Even other Christians, who are tolerant of birth control and abortion and who consider the Catholic Church to be overly conservative on this, have no trouble respecting the right of Catholics to act according to their conscience in these matters. Even a secularist would logically support the right of a religion to practice its own core beliefs, as part of basic rights under the Constitution. This is going to be a big fight, and the bishops cannot and will not back down. It will get messy, and perhaps lead to a major blow to this Administration. I certainly hope so. –Del (I the administration decides it is in the best interests of the country to increase pork production, why cannot it require Jews and Muslims to consume pork? ~Bob)
Worth Reading: Divided We Fall . . . by Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: Amidst worries over the ramifications of a dismal economic record that has hurt minorities, and aware that only overwhelming African-American super-majorities can save certain states in the next election, Obama has a new video out appealing directly to African-Americans to vote for him on the basis of shared heritage. The strategy may have always been implicit, but I cannot quite remember a president or presidential candidate explicitly trying to rally a constituency on the basis of shared racial identity — except for Obama’s earlier appeals to Latinos to “punish our enemies” and his 2010 midterm video targeting specific special minority groups to get out and vote.
Blacklist: Editor's note: Co-written by Oliver North and Tom Kilgannon.
Excerpt: Blacklist (n.): a list of persons who are disapproved of or are to be punished or boycotted. The definition above, from an old Webster's dictionary, was common parlance in the late 1940s and early 1950s as the U.S. House Un-American Activities Committee investigated subversive activity, Soviet espionage and pro-communist propaganda. The committee unearthed spies and traitors -- Alger Hiss among them. (Blacklist? That’s racist! ~Bob.)
Jim Moran, Racist Pig
Excerpt: Congressman Jim Moran is an old white Democrat from Virginia who thinks he can judge whether we minority conservatives are acting sufficiently non-white enough. Moran's an inveterate bully, a brawler, a crook and a bigot. And not one of his civility-preaching liberal colleagues has the courage to call him out.
Worth Reading: MI chief: Iran can produce 4 bombs
Excerpt: "Iran has enough nuclear material for four bombs," Director of Military Intelligence Major General Aviv Kochavi warned Thursday. Kochavi made a rare appearance at the 2012 Herzliya Conference, where he reviewed regional changes, the effects of the Arab Spring and the Iranian threat. (Ah, yes. One for Tel Aviv, one for London, one for New York, one for Washington, DC. Delivery platform: containers on cargo ships, thus no way to be sure where they came from. That should do for the Great Satan nicely. I hope you can hunt and farm. ~Bob.)
Is This Iowa High School Teaching Students Communism Is Better Than Capitalism? See the Flyer
Excerpt: The CAPITALISM side of the flyer shows workers in tattered clothing, chained to a machine that delivers all of the money produced to a cigar-smoking man who is also much better dressed. Over on the COMMUNISM side, there is no boss and the smiling workers are better dressed, don’t have chains on their legs and the money goes back to them. (Let’s do this feeble-mined teacher a favor and deport him to North Korea where Communism will make him happy. ~Bob.)
Planting Trees is Racist?!
Excerpt: An international campaign wants to stop a non-profit environmental organization that has been functioning for more than 100 years by purporting fallacies and anti-Israel propaganda. The Jewish National Fund (JNF) was established with the hope to help the birth of the State of Israel. JNF plants trees for forest development in Israel, creates parks, battles forest fires, is responsible for soil conservation, pioneers innovative solutions to help Israel's water supply, among other notable work. (Only if you don’t plant them according to quotas as they appear in the general tree population. ~Bob.)
Quote from Morning Jolt with Jim Geraghty
I'm sure that "love thy neighbor as thyself" is precisely what Obama was thinking when he urged his Latino supporters to "punish our enemies."
U.S. Fears Iran's Links to al Qaeda
Excerpt: U.S. officials say they believe Iran recently gave new freedoms to as many as five top al Qaeda operatives who have been under house arrest, including the option to leave the country, and may have provided some material aid to the terrorist group. The men, who were detained in Iran in 2003, make up al Qaeda's so-called management council, a group that includes members of the inner circle that advised Osama bin Laden and an explosives expert widely considered a candidate for a top post in the organization.
Obama ‘taking Iran’s side’ on damages from ’83 bombing that killed 241 Marines
Excerpt: President Barack Obama, in a bid to reconcile with the Teheran regime, has blocked legislation that would hold Iran accountable for the Hizbullah bombing that killed 241 U.S. Marines in 1983. A survivors group has asserted that the administration is pressuring Democrats in Congress not to support a bill that would enforce massive judgements against Iran by the families of the Marines. In 2007, a U.S. federal district court judge found Iran liable for the Beirut bombing and ordered Teheran to pay $2.65 billion in damages.
Last laugh is on ‘cop-shoot’ thug
Excerpt: A sobering night in police custody wiped the smirk right off the face of the alleged would-be “assassin” who thought firing a bullet into the head of a hero police officer was a giant joke. Luis “Baby” Ortiz stood stone-faced and silent in court yesterday as a Brooklyn judge ordered him held without bail. (He should plead he was just following his culture. ~Bob.)
Religious Liberty Can Still Trump ObamaCare By Marco Rubio
Excerpt: Religious freedom is a core American principle, one that our Founding Fathers enshrined in the Constitution and called on future generations of leaders to preserve and protect. Despite our deeply rooted heritage of religious liberty, the Obama administration recently issued a mandate under ObamaCare that will require church-affiliated organizations to offer their workers private-insurance coverage without out-of-pocket charges for birth control, something they are morally opposed to. In doing so, the administration ignored efforts by numerous faith-based organizations to be granted an exemption on religious grounds.
Democrats’ Rotten Primary Choices By Frank Fleming
Excerpt: It’s a crucial election year. As another global financial crisis looms and rogue states pursue nuclear weapons, the American people are desperately looking for a strong leader to show them the way to a brighter tomorrow. So it’s unconscionable that the Democratic primaries have yet to produce a single serious candidate for president. … Democratic voters must be looking to the Republican field with envy. Having a few potentially bad choices certainly beats having just a single horrible one. Political satirist Frank J. Fleming’s e-book, “Obama: The Greatest President in the History of Everything,” is out from HarperCollins.
Indiana Rejects Big Labor, Becomes Right-To-Work State
Excerpt: For the past two weeks, Big Labor bosses around the country have had their eyes on the Indiana capitol — watching in horror as the General Assembly passed a right-to-work bill with commanding majorities. The passage of Indiana's right-to-work law is an extraordinarily bitter defeat for the union brass. Less than a year ago, despite the fact that Hoosiers had elected substantial pro-right-to-work majorities to both chambers in 2010, union strategists remained confident they could preserve the forced-unionism status quo.
Immigrant-smuggling ring used black drivers to avoid racial profiling
Excerpt: In the calculus of cross-border human smuggling, Maria Lopez-Diaz allegedly concluded that black instead of brown equals green. The 60-year-old Compton, Calif., woman, prosecutors say, tried to cash in on racial profiling by operating a human smuggling ring that hired mostly African-American drivers who didn't speak a word of Spanish to ferry small groups of immigrants from Mexico to Los Angeles. (That’s racist! Okay, I don’t know who the racists are here, but I’m pretty sure there are some. Questions, did they take ATF guns on the return trips or did they deadhead? ~Bob.)
Domestic Jihad Victims Deserve Purple Heart
Excerpt: Yet the twelve U.S. military personnel (plus one civilian) murdered by Islamic jihadist Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan at Fort Hood in Texas on November 5, 2009 have not been awarded the Purple Heart, and neither has Army Private William Long, who was murdered by Islamic jihadist Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 1, 2009. The reason for this is obvious: the Obama administration has not recognized either the Fort Hood or the Little Rock jihad attack as an act of terrorism.
German converts plead guilty to smuggling bomb instructions into Britain
Excerpt: A search of their rucksacks revealed a large quantity of extremist literature stored on a hard drive and a laptop computer, including an article called “How to make a bomb in the kitchen of your Mom,” from the al-Qaeda magazine, Inspire. The same recipe for a pipe bomb was used by the four men who pleaded guilty this week to plotting to blow up the London Stock Exchange. (When they convert, don’t they give them the “Islam is a religion of peace” memo? ~Bob.)
Egyptian film star sentenced for insulting Islam
Islamists are working to limit freedom of speech everywhere. ~Bob. Excerpt: The Arab world's most famous comic actor, Adel Imam, has received a three-month jail sentence for insulting Islam in films and plays, a court document showed on Thursday. Imam, who has frequently poked fun at authorities and politicians of all colors during a 40-year career, has one month to appeal the sentence and will remain out of jail until the appeal process is concluded.
Digital Piracy Madness
Excerpt: One of the greatest failings of the statist mentality is the belief that society can be easily controlled. Combine that flawed belief with the desire to correct every real and perceived wrong in the world, and you get a busybody government attempting to do exactly that. Add in some real criminals, who will adapt to everything that government does, and you get a busybody government with an ever-growing nose stuck into (and messing up) everyone's business. An entire library of rules and regulations strangling society, and all of them necessary and proper, no matter how tyrannical, intrusive, or poorly justified they really are.
Iranian Government Threatens U.S. in Gulf
Iran has increased its threats against the West and targets in the Arabian Gulf, in response to Western sanctions and the boycott of Iran's Central Bank, a report from the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) shows. The report shows that the threats have come from all levels of the Iranian government, military leadership, and society. Iranian parliament member and national security deputy chairman, Hossein Ebrahimi announced last week that Iran would not allow its oil to be boycotted and would instead turn the Gulf into "graveyard" for foreign forces.
Worth Reading: Obama's latest vote-buying scheme
Excerpt: Obama’s latest homeowner mortgage relief plan is perfect for him: It both is consistent with his ideology – duh – and allows him to buy more votes with someone else’s money, all the while pretending there is in fact such a thing as a free lunch.
The painfully superficial liberal approach to poverty gets old, as does its corollary tenet that conservatives who reject liberals’ failed ideas lack compassion. Indeed, Obama seemed to devote half the words in his prayer breakfast speech to proving that Scripture compels liberal policies. (So let’s recap. We took a $160k mortgage and bought a 2/2 1300 SF condo in May of 2009. On our salaries, we could have obtained a $300k+ mortgage, but we wanted to be careful and frugal, so we live in a small space. The value of our condo has declined to somewhere below $130k, thanks to the bursting of the progressive CRA/Fanny bubble driven by the folks who practice Obamanomics. But we’re not underwater on the mortgage, as we pay extra, current owe about $98k. To be sure we can keep up with our obligations, and despite being about to turn 66 and on oxygen for a terminal illness, I still go to work every day. So our reward for being frugal, hard-working, responsible citizens? We have to help bail out folks who live in larger, nicer homes than ours, but earn less than we do, who took mortgages at the max they could get and thus are underwater. Apparently we aren’t paying our “fair share.” We have to do that to help Obama get re-elected. Do I sound a little bitter? Not at all. I’m a LOT bitter. ~Bob.)
Rep. Labrador lays into Holder
Labrador is Hispanic and this is significant. The Hispanics are increasingly angry about Fast and Furious, mostly because Hispanics are being killed with the weapons sold in that operation. This is big trouble for Obama as elections near. –Don.
Sierra Club took $26M from gas industry to fight coal-fired plants
Oxymoron of the year: Green Ethics. ~Bob. Excerpt: The Sierra Club disclosed Thursday that it received over $26 million from natural-gas giant Chesapeake Energy Corp. between 2007 and 2010 to help the group’s campaign against coal-fired power plants.
One Group’s Strategy to Derail Oil Pipelines, Raise Energy Prices
http://blog.heritage.org/2012/02/03/one-groups-strategy-to-derail-oil-pipelines-raise-energy-prices/
Excerpt: Details of a large non-profit’s plans to combat the Keystone XL pipeline have surfaced, and offer some insight into the strategies and tactics of groups looking to combat the use of fossil fuels. (Bumper Sticker: Keystone? Screw the poor, let them pay more. ~Bob.)
