Obama rejects Keystone pipeline, blames ‘arbitrary’ GOP deadline
Excerpt: President Obama on Wednesday said that the administration is rejecting the proposed Keystone XL oil sands pipeline, a move that will escalate an explosive election-year fight with Republicans and major business groups. Obama said he was not acting on the merits of TransCanada Corp.’s plan, but instead was forced to make the decision based on the “arbitrary” deadline mandated by GOP provisions in December’s payroll tax cut extension deal. (Good news for China. Bad news for the unemployed, union construction workers and poor or working people struggling to pay for gas and heat. ~Bob.)

Allen West regarding Keystone
EXCERPT: It is absolutely irresponsible that the President would block a project such as the Keystone XL pipeline - a project that industry experts say would create at least 20,000 American jobs and be essential in helping jumpstart the American economy. This decision today is further evidence that President Obama is not serious about setting the conditions for job creation nor working towards our energy independence as it relates to our national security. Once again, President Obama has shown that his reelection and pandering to his left wing liberal environmental base is more important than securing the future for our nation. The ramifications of this utterly disturbing politically motivated decision will be far and wide. Congratulations China."

Tweet: Bovie_66 Right in Illinois
So it was imperative to pass Health Reform without even reading the bill but Keystone is rejected for being "rushed"

Must Read: The Six Dirty Secrets of Presidential Politics in 2012 -John Zeigler, American Thinker
Excerpt: The "dirtiest" little secret on my list is one that, because it is so obvious, I am astonished has not been mentioned in any significant way. In my experience, the most universal misconception that conservatives have about politics is that most of those in the "conservative media" or those who are "activists" are motivated primarily because they believe in the cause. Unfortunately, for many reasons too numerous to get into in this space, this is simply not the case. The vast majority of the decisions made in the conservative media and by activists are decided by business considerations rather than by what is best for the cause.

Worth Reading: An Ignored 'Disparity': Part II By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: One of the ways of trying to reduce the vast disparities in economic success, which are common in countries around the world, is by making higher education more widely available, even for people without the money to pay for it. This can be both a generous investment and a wise investment for a society to make. But, depending on how it is done, it can also be a foolish and even dangerous investment, as many societies around the world have learned the hard way. When institutions of higher learning turn out highly qualified doctors, scientists, engineers and others with skills that can raise the standard of living of a whole society and make possible a better and longer life, the benefits are obvious. (Sowell makes some important points. My wife has a Master of Music (Opera Performance) degree from a fine conservatory in Boston. She makes a living applying and teaching what she learned in school and beyond. She is an exception. Something like 70% of her classmates earn their livings primarily at something outside the field of their degrees. Some NEVER worked in their degreed fields, and most are lucky to enjoy performing in (unpaid) community theater. I know from direct observation that it takes as long to become a great singer, 10 to 12 years, as it does to become a brain surgeon (actually, we know a brain surgeon who is also a singer who says it’s easier to be a surgeon, and he should know). My wife knew GOING IN that it was a difficult field to make a living in and acted accordingly. All the students got the education they paid for, but in some cases the results were unexpected and disappointing. Students need to be careful that they actually want what they’re buying; no returns are accepted. Ron P.)

Worth Reading: Presidential Nonsense By Walter E. Williams
Excerpt: Last week, President Barack Obama, at a Capital Hilton fundraising event, told the crowd, "We can't go back to this brand of you're-on-your-own economics." Throughout my professional career as an economist, I've never come across the theory of "you're-on-your-own economics." I'm guessing what the president means by -- and finds offensive in -- "you're-on-your-own economics" is that it's a system in which people are held responsible for their actions, that they take risks and must live with the results, that people can't force others to pay for their mistakes, and that they can't live at the expense of other people. (Something I’ve always enjoyed about Walter Williams’ writing is his ability to translate the political rhetoric into what it really means for the poor beggars who have to do the work, carry the ball, and pay the price. The correct term for a person whose reward for work is taken away by others for their own benefit is “slave.” The only economic choices available to us are money or force; take your pick. Ron P.)

Obama's jobs council report says 'drill'
“We Can’t wait!” for the Keystone Pipeline, Mr. President. ~Bob. Excerpt: President Obama’s jobs council called Tuesday for an “all-in approach” to energy policy that includes expanded oil-and-gas drilling as well as expediting energy projects like pipelines. “[W]e should allow more access to oil, natural gas and coal opportunities on federal lands,” states the year-end report released Tuesday by the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. The report does not specifically mention the Keystone XL oil pipeline, but it endorses moving forward quickly with projects that “deliver electricity and fuel,” including pipelines.

New Republican pipeline ad spoofs MSNBC news host Rachel Maddow
Excerpt: Republicans are poking fun at liberal MSNBC host Rachel Maddow in their bid to gain political traction for the proposed Keystone XL oil sands pipeline. The National Republican Congressional Committee has a new Web ad riffing on MSNBC spots that feature Maddow in front of the Hoover Dam calling for the nation to think big on infrastructure.

Bedoons (Non-citizens) to be deported (From Kuwait) over protests
Excerpt: Kuwait has decided to deport stateless people who took part in
protests demanding citizenship which turned violent, newspapers reported
Tuesday. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Central Agency for Illegal
Residents, which deals with the stateless people known as bidoons, chaired
by Interior Minister Sheikh Ahmed al-Humud al-Sabah, al-Anbaa newspaper
reported.

Violence Solves a Lot by Kirby Ferris, Jews For The Preservation of Firearms Ownership
Excerpt: One of the more insidiously deceptive lines of the socialist-liberal agenda is the banal phrase: "Violence doesn’t solve anything." How much retrospection is required to understand that Hitler wasn’t stopped by peace marches, negotiations, or "conflict resolution" sessions? It is a horrible, disgusting task, but evil acts, whatever shape they take, must eventually be countered by a superior, violent force. The liberal doesn’t seem to understand that the threat of counter violence is perhaps the most effective preventative of actual physical conflict.

Five Ways Conservatives Will Have to Sell Their Souls If Romney Wins - John Hawkins, Townhall
Excerpt: If you were trying to come up with the most atrocious candidate imaginable to go toe-to-toe with Barack Obama in 2012, you couldn't do much better than Mitt Romney. He was an unpopular moderate governor who lost 2 out of the 3 major elections he's run in and whose signature issue Romneycare is an enormous failure. Moreover, he's so uninspiring that he makes Bob Dole look like Ronald Reagan and that's before you consider his incessant flip-flopping that makes it impossible to really know where he stands on any issue. (Or you can save your soul by letting Obama be re-elected? ~Bob.)

Sarah Palin Goes Rogue on Newsweek for Calling Obama's Critics Dumb - Alex Pappas, Daily Caller
Excerpt: Newsweek accomplished at least one thing by running a cover story calling the country’s critics of President Obama “dumb” — they awoke the mama grizzly. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin took to Twitter on Tuesday...

Obama Brings Back the Constitution - William McGurn, Wall Street Journal
EXCERPT: Conservatives can be a grudging lot. That's especially true when it comes to President Obama. Even where he's been in the right—whether it be killing Osama bin Laden or promoting charter schools—we can be stingy with praise. So let us now, in full public view, credit his greatest public service as president: He is sending Americans back to the Constitution.

Indiana Patriot Guard, police escorting soldier's body pull family from burning wreckage
Excerpt: As the Patriot Guard was escorting Spc. Robert Tauteris Jr.’s body back to his hometown of North Judson Saturday there was a two-vehicle crash right in front of the convoy. Patriot Guard Riders and police stopped to pull four people from South Bend out of the fiery wreckage.

VA AG Fears DC Law May Relocate Rat 'Families' to Virginia
Excerpt: Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli says he is worried that a new District of Columbia law that governs how pest control operators must handle rats may result in entire rodent “families” being relocated across the Potomac River into Virginia by D.C. pest control personnel. Lately, there have been reports of growing rat infestations around the Occupy DC protests at Freedom Plaza and McPherson Square. (It's entirely understandable that some people are upset and concerned about the extermination of vermin in our nation's capitol. And I'm not speaking just about the occupy crowd. --MasterGuns)

More ‘Embarrassing’ Ron Paul Newsletters Emerge On Race, Israel, & More
Excerpt: Republican presidential contender Ron Paul has been fielding questions about his controversial newsletters for years. While their troubling contents first came to light during the 2008 presidential campaign, the embarrassing newsletters have gained increasing attention over the past two months. As you’ll recall, many of the issues, published in the 1980s and 1990s, contained troubling comments about Israel, African Americans, homosexuals and AIDS, among other subjects.

Electorate is sharply split over Obama, poll finds
Excerpt: As President Obama prepares to give his third State of the Union address next week, he faces a dispirited and polarized electorate that is sharply divided over his record, worried about the pace of the economic recovery and deeply pessimistic about the country’s trajectory. In a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, 9 percent of Americans see a strong economic recovery — a number that has hardly budged in more than two years. Twice as many say they are worse off financially since Obama became president than say their situations have improved.

Obama's recess appointments might not hold up in court
Excerpts: Some legal experts, including those who have sided with President Obama on other constitutional issues, think there is a good chance the courts could overturn his recent recess appointments. Legal experts said courts could invalidate Obama’s appointments to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) because there is scant precedent on the issue. (Note to the judges. If Obama can ignore the Constitution and the Legislative Branch, he can ignore the Judicial Branch. All that “balance of powers” things is so 18th century. ~Bob.)

Republican primary calendar tilts in Romney’s favor after South Carolina
Excerpt: The Republican primary calendar tilts in Mitt Romney’s favor once South Carolina’s contest is over, which could add to the pressure on his GOP rivals to exit the race. Between Saturday’s vote in the Palmetto State and Super Tuesday on March 6 are elections in a number of states where the former Massachusetts governor is favored to win.

Excerpt: Controlling for observable skills and characteristics allows economists to make an apples-to-apples comparison between private-sector and federal employees.
Doing so shows that the federal pay system gives the average federal employee hourly cash earnings 22 percent above the average private worker’s. … Many federal employees retire in their late 50s, collect their pension and retiree health benefits, and then take a second job in the private sector. Taxpayers should not have to subsidize this double-dipping. (But if you cut government employees’ pay, how will they afford to donate huge sums to Democrats? ~Bob.)

Excerpt: The executive branch of the federal government is a sprawling collection of programs and agencies, many working at cross-purposes or to no good purpose at all. There has to be a better way. Political commentators can, and will, argue about whether government responsibilities should increase or decrease. That debate has two sides. But when it comes to waste and ineffectiveness, there is nothing to debate. What government does, it should do well.

They See Racists Everywhere … by Bernard Goldberg
Excerpt: Romney’s “whiteness,” says Siegel, is “grounded in a retro vision of the country, one of white picket fences and stay-at-home moms and fathers unashamed of working hard for corporate America.” Sounds good to me. But Siegel’s not-so-subtle point is that this was also racist America.

Time to Purge the Republican Party By Ben Shapiro
Excerpt: Let's examine for a moment just why Mitt Romney will likely win the Republican nomination. It isn't because he's conservative -- he's not. It isn't because he's supremely electable -- he's not. It's not because he's charming or charismatic or dazzlingly likeable -- he's not. The Republican Party is about to nominate Mitt Romney because it is a party in crisis. (Who gets to do the purging? Who decided who the 10 or 15 true Republicans are, who will be pure but not win many elections? While I fear that Romney can’t win, and doesn’t have the core strength to make the very tough decisions needed if this Republic is to survive, I think he’s going to be the nominee because the more conservative candidates either declined to run or imploded, and there were too many of them. I eliminated Cain when he didn’t know China had the bomb—we already have a president who knows less about foreign affairs and economics than I do. Bachmann didn’t know there was a little crisis in Iran that closed our embassy in 1980, and was focused on things that, regardless of your views, don’t threaten the life of the Republic. Huntsman ran as a centrist in the GOP primaries, despite being arguably more conservative than Romney. Duh. Perry proved not ready to go head to head with Obama or anyone else. Santorum is a big government conservative focused on the social issues when the threats are fiscal and foreign policy, who lost his seat by 18 points. Paul’s anti-Americanism and foreign policy positions would make me think of voting for Obama if he was the nominee—he’d make 1964 look like a good Republican year. I leaned toward Newt three of four times this year. But his intellect makes him think that everything that pops into his head is a good idea and he goes off the rails at least once a week. The attack on capitalism pretty much did it for me. I have very big problems with Mitt, but I guess the “conservative” candidates have left us with him. If Obama wins, I fear it won’t matter who is nominated in 2016. ~Bob.)

So Why Read Anymore?
Excerpt: Our syntax, both written and oral, is reverting to “Spot is a dog”: noun, verb, predicate — period. How did incomprehensible slang, spiced with vulgarity, become an object of emulation? I used to listen to farmers without college degrees speak wonderful English; now to listen to a member of Congress almost requires a translator. Reading alone enriches our vocabulary; it teaches us that good writing requires a sense of melody as well as a command of grammar. Soon those well-read become the well-spoken.

National GOP Poll: Romney 30%, Gingrich 27%
Excerpt: The race for the Republican presidential nomination is now nearly even with Mitt Romney still on top but Newt Gingrich just three points apart.

Election 2012: Obama 47%, Gingrich 38%
Excerpt: Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, working hard to convince South Carolina Republicans that he is the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney, remains within single digits of President Obama in their latest national 2012 matchup.

Fitch Says Greece to Default, Believes Will Be Orderly
Excerpt: Rating agency Fitch said on Tuesday that Greece would default on its debt, although it said that such a default was likely to take place in an orderly manner. ”It is going to happen. Greece is insolvent so it will default,” Edward Parker, Managing Director for Fitch΄s Sovereign and Supranational Group in Europe, the Middle East and Africa told Reuters on the sidelines of a conference in the Swedish capital.

Worth Reading: Voter fraud 'a normal political tactic' in upstate NY city
Excerpt: "I knew that the actual voters had not voted the ballots or signed the envelopes, but that did not concern me. I am not the ballot police," Renna said in a statement to police. "I have been present when 'ballots were voted correctly' by party operatives. Voted correctly is a term used for a forged application or ballot." (Many people refuse to believe any evil they don’t “see in the news.” For them, here it is. For the rest of us, notice the innocent, warm & fuzzy name of the organization used. Here in central Massachusetts, we believe a group called Neighbor to Neighbor—also affiliated with ACORN—is doing similar things. While most of these groups benefit Democrats, no doubt there are places where Republicans are the rascals, and when we find them, they should be punished just as severely. The integrity of our voting needs to be taken seriously; it’s the only thing that protects us from tyranny. And, isn’t it funny how little coverage this is getting in the MSM? Where are your reporters, New York Times? --Ron P. That’s because the media are pro-Democrat. Most voter fraud aids Democrats, which is why Holder protects it. The “greater good” in their view requires voter fraud. ~Bob.)

U.S. May Release Senior Taliban Terrorists
Excerpt: The Obama administration is considering releasing five top Taliban jihadists from custody at Guantanamo Bay in hopes of negotiating a peace agreement with the Afghan terrorist movement. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said last week that administration is in "the preliminary stages" of testing whether talks with the Taliban can succeed. President Obama plans to withdraw virtually all U.S. troops from Afghanistan by 2014. Last month, Vice President Joe Biden told an interviewer that "the Taliban per se is not our enemy." (Well, piss on them. What could go wrong? ~Bob.)

The White House’s Israel-bashing pals By Alana Goodman
Excerpt: Last December, a top anti-Semitism watchdog group accused the Center for American Progress, a prominent Washington think tank, of peddling anti-Israel and borderline anti-Semitic material on its Web site and Twitter feeds. Six days later, President Obama met for coffee with the man who oversaw the offending content — Faiz Shakir, the site’s editor-in-chief. That the president met with Shakir amid the ballooning scandal illustrates just how close the administration is with CAP.

Excerpt: First, the petition process was riddled with fraud and tainted with questionable ethics at several points. Early in the process the Soros-funded One Wisconsin Now encouraged those opposed to Walker to sign recall petitions multiple times. Although not necessarily an illegal act (unless there is the specific intent to commit fraud), signing a petition multiple times does raise questions about how best to properly calculate the true number of signature since, in theory and according to state law, only the first signature will count. Even the Government Accountability Board’s announcement that it will use software to help catch duplicates, though a step in the right direction, doesn’t promise to catch every or even most of those kinds of errors. When a Milwaukee man proudly said he signed recall petitions 80 times as a way of getting back at Republicans who, he believes, stole the 2000 election in Florida, he proved just how error prone the process can be. (The ethics of the end-justifies-the-means left. The step from signature fraud to shooting kulaks isn’t that large. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: An ill wind from the north: It's very likely that Governor Scott Walker will face a recall election in November. The unions who oppose him view this battle as Armageddon. It will be--for taxpayers if Big Labor wins and removes Walker from office. But a victory in November by the suburban Milwaukee Republican will embolden like-minded reformers in other states to continue the fight of rescuing government from the overreach of public-sector unions. If my state, Illinois, has any hope of getting out of its fiscal morass, we need "a Walker" to run the Land of Lincoln. Our next election for governor is in 2014. You may need a Walker in your state too.

Gingrich's Debate Prowess Shows How Obama Can Be Beat
Excerpt: Whatever one thinks of GOP candidate Newt Gingrich, there's no doubt he scored big in the weekend's South Carolina debate. That kind of energy and command of facts is what it will take to win the presidency. After falling in the polls under a barrage of big-money attack ads from opponent Mitt Romney, and stumbling on a bad campaign ad of his own over Romney’s record at Bain Capital, Gingrich surprised many with his best debate performance yet.

Editorial: Would you trust Sacramento with your health? Bill creating state ‘single-payer’ insurance system is back again. Would Brown sign it?
Excerpt: California never seems to pull the plug on bad ideas. That's why single-payer – government – medical insurance legislation is back on the operating table in Sacramento. Senate Bill 810 is authored by state Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco. On Jan. 9, union groups led rallies in front of the state Capitol in favor of the bill. The protest was called, "SB810 Rally Sacto – Jan 2012" … Supporters of the bill include powerful public-employee unions, chiefly the California Teachers Association and the California School Employees Association.

Editorial cartoon by David Hitch
Great cartoon. I have a couple of T&G cartoons by a good guy named Sullivan on my office wall, back when I was the subject in the 1970s. ~Bob.

A Thumbs-Up for Gender Apartheid in Sweden
Excerpt: In short, the Swedish educational authorities have caved in. Henceforth, niqab is permitted in Swedish schools. If any teacher thinks it’s getting in the way of normal classroom interaction (and how could it not?) or that it represents a potential safety problem – well, it’s up to that teacher to say so and take the consequences.

It Pays Not To Work
Excerpt: The benefit to millions of people for not working has risen dramatically during Obama’s Great Recession. Staying home and collecting a government check has never been so appealing. The picture of a desperate, straggling army of jobless poor—magnified by the lefty news media– is a distortion of reality. The benefit of not working increased from $10,000 to $15,000 a year for millions of Americans. Moreover, it unquestionably actually increased joblessness, the major political football of 2012.

Excerpt: As the Recall Walker effort submitted their signatures to the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board today (claiming 1 million signatures), Wisconsinites deserve a serious analysis of this Big Labor, big money game to force a recall election on the people of this state. We will be shocked at what is yet to come. Evidence is already mounting to suggest that Big Labor has used underhanded, fraudulent and illegal tactics to pad their petition numbers. Major national labor organizations have dumped millions into Wisconsin to stop Governor Walker’s reforms and with the integrity of these petitions being questioned; they have shown their true colors.

Gunmen kill journalist in Pakistan mosque
Another Muslim murdered for Allah to celebrate the Religion of Peace. ~Bob. Excerpt: Police say gunmen have killed a local television journalist in a mosque in northwest Pakistan. Mukarram Khan Atif worked for Dunya TV, and according to his profile on LinkedIn, contributed stories to US government funded Voice of America.

Graduate Beaten to Death Outside Philadelphia Liberty Bell - After Thugs Took His Call for a Taxi for Abuse - Associated Press, Daily Mail
Excerpt: Three men got out of a car behind the cab and started kicking and punching Kless, who fell to the sidewalk severely injured. The three men and the driver of the car then drove off and Mr Kless was pronounced dead at a hospital several hours later. Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter took to Twitter to condemn the killing: ‘Encourage ANYONE who knows or saw anything about this incident to give us info, we need to catch these people, asap!’

Obama's Racial Politics - Victor Davis Hansen, National Review Online
Excerpt: Never has America been more assimilated, integrated, and intermarried — as is evident in everything from politics to popular culture, from statistics to anecdotes. Yet from late 2007 to 2012, Barack Obama has been establishing new rules of racial referencing.

Chris Dodd Thinks Anti-SOPA/PIPA Websites are Abusing Their Power - Nate Nelson, United Liberty
Excerpt: If you’re like me, you hoped that you wouldn’t be hearing anything more from allegedly corrupt former Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) after he decided in 2010 not to seek a sixth Senate term. Unfortunately those hopes were dashed when the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) decided it just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to hire somebody who allegedly knows exactly what it takes to buy a senator. The MPAA selected Dodd as its new head lobbyist chairman and CEO last year. (Maybe if they gave him a sweetheart, Friends-of-Angelo mortgage, special for government regulators, like Countrywide Mortgage did when they were helping create the housing collapse, he’d go along. ~Bob.)

Hollywood Film Actor Mark Wahlberg on 9/11 Plane: I Would Have Beat Terrorists, Landed it Safely
Excerpt: "If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did," he tells the magazine. "There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, 'OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.'" Wahlberg has spoken before of the near-miss, and the action he would have taken had he been on the flight. "We certainly would have tried to do something to fight," he said in 2006. "I've had probably over 50 dreams about it." (A heroic legend in his own mind. ~Bob. He actually believes he's an action man because he plays action men. God help us. I love that bit, "I've had probably 50 dreams about it." Yeah, Dude, so have lots of guys, all of them dreamers. –Kate.)

A first: TSA Admits Error in Case of Elderly Woman Who Say They Were Strip-Searched at Kennedy Airport - Howard Portnoy, HotAir.com
Excerpt: The agency has issued an apology to two octogenarians who in separate incidents a week apart claim they were strip-searched by overzealous screeners at Kennedy International Airport. Now if only the feds could do the same for the legions of other individuals their screeners have humiliated, we really might be moving toward closure.

Christians in Syria targeted in series of kidnappings and killings; 100 dead
Guess they didn’t get the “Islam is a religion of peace” memo. ~Bob. Excerpt: The Christian community in Syria has been hit by a series of kidnappings and brutal murders; 100 Christians have now been killed since the anti-government unrest began. A reliable source in the country, who cannot be identified for their own safety, told Barnabas Fund that children were being especially targeted by the kidnappers, who, if they do not receive the ransom demanded, kill the victim.

New York's Kennedy Airport's Terminal 3 Ranked Worst Airport in World Over 'Immigration Lines, Dank Basement and Vomiting Travellers' - Nina Golgowski, Daily Mail UK
Excerpt: Heading Frommer's worst list was New York's John F Kennedy Airport terminal 3 which is described as known for 'endless immigration lines in a dank basement, an utter lack of food and shopping options, three crowded and confusing entry points, and hallways that could have been designed by M.C Escher for vomiting international travellers out onto an underground sidewalk with no cabs available,' Frommers.com said.

SOPA: Thousands of Sites Go Dark
Excerpt: Thousands of internet sites are taking part in a "blackout" protest against anti-piracy laws being discussed by US lawmakers. The Wikipedia encyclopedia and blogging service WordPress are among the highest profile pages to remove material. Google is showing solidarity by placing a black box over its logo when US-based users visit its site.

Boston Globe lauds Sex Offender
Excerpt: This was attached to the end of a nauseating Boston Globe article celebrating the amorous relations between Occupy protesters: Editor’s note: This story about relationships that began during Occupy Boston featured a man, Robert Stitham, who is a registered sex offender, according to state records. Had his status been discovered during reporting, the story would not have been published. Oops.

DNC Chair’s parents off to jail for corruption
Excerpt: Richard Rubin — husband of former Broward County Commissioner Diana Wasserman-Rubin, who still faces seven felony charges of her own — was sentenced this morning to ten months in federal prison. Rubin, 66, pleaded guilty in April to federal tax evasion after failing to report $100,000 in fees he received from the town of Davie for a land deal he brokered in 2004. (Tax evasion is standard for Democrats. Should get him a post as an Obama Czar when he gets out. ~Bob.)

The Mortal Threat from Iran - Mark Helprin, Wall Street Journal
Excerpt: To assume that Iran will not close the Strait of Hormuz is to assume that primitive religious fanatics will perform cost-benefit analyses the way they are done at Wharton. They won't, especially if the oil that is their life's blood is threatened. If Iran does close the strait, we will fight an air and naval war derivative of and yet peripheral to the Iranian nuclear program, a mortal threat the president of the United States has inadequately addressed.

Australia Looking For A Few Good Men
Excerpt: With the Iraq War officially over and the Army downsizing in the face of defense budget pressure, more troops will be making the transition back to civilian life -- a potentially challenging prospect given the state of the economy. But for those who want to stay in uniform, there may be a new option emerging -- just not an American one. Australia has put out the "Help Wanted" sign for foreign national veterans. "We are looking for serving or ex-serving foreign military personnel, who can directly transfer their job and life skills to whichever Service they join, with limited training and preparation," the Australian Defence Force has announced on its website.

Obama Sacrifices Pawns for Politics
Hard hitting ad. Please share. ~Bob.

NYC's New Police State Technology - from Moonbattery
Excerpt: Alarming new technology will make New York City all the more hazardous for visitors who mistake Mayor for Life Michael Bloomberg’s authoritarian fiefdom for a part of America, where our constitutional liberties would apply. The NYPD is developing a new way to seek people toting guns on the street by using radiation scanners that can detect those packing heat, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly announced Tuesday.

The New Muslim Suffragettes of the United Kingdom - by Charlotte Rachel Proudman, via Blazing Cat Fur Blog
Excerpt: With heightened media sensitivity surrounding forced marriage, honour based violence and domestic violence we are all too aware of the suffering experienced by vulnerable and marginalised Muslim women. But we know little about the Muslim women activists who risk their lives to fight for the rights of oppressed Muslim women. These women are the New Muslim Suffragettes (NMS) of The United Kingdom.

The 'poor' are the rich Jesus warned you about - Kathy Shaidle, Five Feet of Fury
Excerpt: All of our efforts and focus is on people who are unemployed, underemployed, old, aging, decrepit, oppressed, disadvantaged, blah blah blah. And so we tax people who produce stuff and transfer it to those who don’t produce stuff. (…) There is no other choice. The system is bankrupt and the current policies pursued by the government are not sustainable. You think you’re in poverty NOW? Just wait until there is NO government check.

Medicare fail
Excerpt: The Congressional Budget Office has some disappointing news: Two decades worth of experiments to bring down Medicare costs have not worked very well. The agency published results today from 10 Medicare demonstrations that have piloted new ways to coordinate care and tie provider payment to quality.
